Do you care about animation in games or does it not really matter as long as it doesn’t interfere with gameplay?
>>
>>729445242
A good animation can add a lot to the feel of using a move, but most devs think more frames and more exaggeration is better animation.
>>
i only care about animations matching with hitboxes
>>
>>729445242
The fuck kind retard question is that. Animation is gameplay
>>
>>729445538
There are more types of animation in games than just gameplay animation, you know that right?
>>
>>729445883
You used a pic of an attack animation so thats what people assume the thread is about. Don't try to weasel out
>>
>>729445883
Yes so what
What's the question?
Why did you post this
>>
>>729445242
just retarget motion capture to the model and adjust it manually as needed.
nobody normal in the head who doesn't want to waste dozens up dozens of hours and years on just 10 minutes of animation is doing that anymore.
>>
>>729445242
If it matches what's actually happening behind the screen then I don't really care. If anything using a premade and ducking it up is even worse since I already have the muscle memory implanted from another game.
>>
I'm a vidya animator so yeah I do care
>>
>>729449434
do you hate yourself?
>>
>>729449592
videogame animation is bottom of the barrel shit, as the other anon said we're basically just motion editors cleaning up mocap nowadays. but it's comfy and I get paid for playing games so I'm not complaining
>>
I remember when ELEX came out, all the zoomers who only play AAA shit were complaining about the movement animations kek
>>
>>729449796
I've been studying blender and animation with my wife lately to see where can that get us as a second freelancing job or full time job
>>
>>729449796
how did you get the job? did you have a good portfolio when you started out?
>>
>>729445242
No

Animations have been getting worse as more deliberate over-animation trends take over.
Both west and east have their own variants.
The west tries to make everything extra punchy, like everything has high tension springs attached to them, and small motions are akin to an FPS reload animations.
The east makes their characters make big exaggerated sweeping motions for the smallest things.

That animation isn't the gameplay though. That's just feedback. you could have the same functionality with a stand-in-pill for collision and a little stick wiggle for a sword. The gameplay wouldn't change. It's just user feedback that would.

Animation is like the most important thing in a game. If your game has shitty animations, everyone will notice and it'll look bad regardless of how good the actual graphics are. If the animations don't line up with the game logic, your game will feel bad to play.
Anyway, where do I get started with learning 3D animation for games?
>>
>>729445242
Bad animations will ruin a game for me. You could tell me it's the greatest game ever made, but if the animations suck, I won't play it.
