Kojima's new "genre" even with new tools and mechanics proves it couldn't stretch enough to carry a sequel. DS should've been a one and done.
I love both, but I agree. I would've much preferred something new over a sequel. What both games really needed was a yugely expanded VR training.
>>729447874It's okay when Dark Souls does it
It's actually a great refined sequel that improves and expands on concepts from the first game. The big problem is that they listened to people who didn't even like the first game and made it way too easy, the first game was already too easy
>>729448312>Aight sam, big boss battle ahead, make sure to gear up >Go to fight naked >Get a bazillion shotguns, grenade launchers, blood packs etc for free Very cool Kojimbo. Also the trekking missions you can just drive there most of the time.
>>729447874His "new genre" is just world tenacity from Demons Souls???
>>729448312this. Kojima picked the wrong people to play test this with. The first game was piss easy and this one even more so. I get that you need a very easy difficulty for Snoys who can’t handle real gameplay, but the PC autists deserved a bigger challenge than “terrorists kill you in thirty shots instead of thirty five”
>>729448183Dark Souls spawned a genre (arguably demon's souls did), that's why shit is called souls-like
>>729448183souls likes exist because people liked souls games and started making their own games that have elements from souls games so souls like became a genre by its ownthe director announcing his game is creating a new genre is pretentiousness of the highest order
>>729448943DS spawned a strand-type game, whole new genre as well
>>729448943Dark Souls is just Ocarina of Time though
No one has the technical skill to replicate the mechanics
>>729447874Why aren't all the kojimafags making their own strand type games? Popular games get clones all the time.
>>729449983Theoretically how would you make one with an indie budget and audience
>>729449983I don't know how to draw, code, or make music. I just think Kojima is rad. I'm good looking and a good singer, but I can't make a Strand game off of that. Although, what about a game where I sing in such a way that it interacts with people's smarthomes? You'd need a webcam, because the game would also check your attraction to me based on pupil dilation and the pigment of your skin as looking at me makes you flushed. Holy fuck I'm inventing a new genre as I type. Fuck Kojima and the Strand genre. What should I call this thing?
>>729448856why would you lie like that you fucking imbecile?majority of PC shitters plays at EASY or STORY difficulty and even then they need cheats, sorry, mods to ''balance'' the gamethere's a reason every PC retard has Cheat Engine installed, maybe except for the total imbecile like you who outright turn on STEAM cheevos without even touching the gamePC cheater race is pathetic, pretending otherwise won't change anything
>>729450146>indie budgetYou don't need to turn it into licenseslop with all the shitty music and actors and as for the audience, just make it good? Good indie games get a lot of players.
>>729450567Sorry but this isn't an answer. It's instead criticizing an imagined failed attempt. Feel free to try again.
>>729449983It's too complex. All you need for a Souls-like is a rolling animation and assets for generic demon/knight boss. You need a balancing system with momentum that changes with item distribution and stamina, the character reacting to every piece of terrain differently, every item being physically there on your character. A sizeable map to traverse with a variety of tools where terrain changes depending on your progress and actions. Asynchronous online system that connects players and their structures. Not to mention all the little TECHNOLOGY details and micro-mechanics that bring it all together. It's too much work for something that has a small niche audience. Ironically the closest anyone got was a literal joke of a game. I guess there is also Snowrunner but the gameplay is a lot more simple and only vehicle based.
>>729449258Always makes me kekWhat a pretentious fag
>>729447874it was already insane to staple a bunch of AAA bloat to the rail thin 4-hour indie game premise of DS1. The sequel collapsing was inevitable.
>>729447874I don't think Death Stranding should have been a one and done.Instead I think he should have gone the Ueda approach where each game is it's own story in the DS world and each main protag plays completely different from the next.DS1 could have been delivery man.DS2 a completely new protag that's something else like a Soldier for hire.
>>729451821Thank god some guy with a legacy that could draw in funding had a fixation. I never played MGS or anything but I appreciate the guy for making a couple hundred hours of unique hiking delivery game
PSnoys hated the first one, too. Just wait for the PC release for the public reappraisal
>>729447874The only problem is it's on PS5, I want to play the game but I refuse to buy any of the new shit ass consoles
The problem is that the game essentially plays itself. The only time I had a game over was when a random giant BT spawned and it ended up destroying my critical cargo that was on the bike so I had to restart the mission. The first game even on normal difficulty makes you think and suffer while in the sequel you can get anywhere with the bike.I've never been a fan of stealthing past enemies and I preferred to kill stealthily so I appreciated that in the sequel but it felt one dimensional every time.
>>729448440>Also the trekking missions you can just drive there most of the time. You could do that with the bike in the first game, including that mission where you have to take the fragile bomb up the mountain
>>729447874It just needed a new protagonist if you ask me. Sam deserved a rest after the first one.
>>729456838He had to pass the torch to Louise
>>729447874He just took it to a wrong direction trying to appeal to the people who disliked the first one.He should have appealed to the people who liked the first game and make delivering more interesting, instead of instantly devolving it into truckslop.
