Redpill me on Puyos. Why is this basic-ass puzzle game so popular? Have I been missing out?
>Basic assIt's hard to master. Try playing any puyo game against the japanese.
>>729453250popular because its an old puzzle game since the nes days
>>729453250Characters are fun, series has been around for a LONG ass time, gameplay is fun. why wouldn't it be popular?
>>729453547For some reason I'm great at Tetris but Puyo kicks my ass, I don't know why.
>>729453250>popularSince when? It gets no threads on 4chan, and we all know games live or die by their 4chan presence I don't think you'll find anyone who has played them.
>>729454843It's been an active series since 1991, that must mean it's at least a bit popular
>>729453250hard as balls to play.I've always been surprised by the fact that it has decent AI compared to official tetris games.>>729454345because>you don't know what to do with pairs where only 1 color extends the chain and the other one doesn't (i.e. color conflicts)>you are unable to build the chain out of order (e.g. working on the 2nd floor while you haven't finished the first)
>>729453250Low skill floor, high skill ceiling. Creating chains and popping puyo is for some reason deeply rooted in the human psyche to release dopamine. Anyone want to play a ft10? I need to see if my training is paying off. I have ppc, ppt2 and puyovs on pc. I'll be waiting on puyovs bayoen.fr server in the mean time.
>>729454345You need to memorize more forms
>>729456292>low skill floorexplain. you're gonna get raped online if you don't know at least how to 10-chain and how to handle all-clears
>>729453250its a puzzle fighter so thousands of autistics will grind ten thousands of hours into it like everything else
>>729456971Well not online, online the skill ceiling is probably the highest of any online game I've ever played, but that's just because there's no low level players. Low skill floor as in put 4 colors together to make them pop and stairs isn't too hard to do.
>>729456292Sure let's play. I'll be on ppt2 in a 1v1 room, with my avatar as evil popoi.
>>729454345
>>729456292ggs man, was fun to play. Your max is a bit low, but nothing time wouldn't fix
Dude c'mon 20 games isn't enough for me to get a better idea of how I can improve my strategy it was pretty clear that I was going pretty fast even though I made a few mistakes sometimes if we played more you'd see that I make 8 chains pretty fast actually I just wasn't used to being so easily countered that even if the opponent goes a bit slower as long as they make a chain one longer they automatically win and I was conflicted about how I wanted to change my strategy so I wasn't even making 8 chains as fast as I could and yes I also realize that there can be some issues with my strategy if I don't handle a few garbage puyo being sent over by small chains but like I was saying 20 matches isn't enough to fix my strategy so I think this set was mostly a wash but thanks for playing only 20 games with me I guess it was pretty cool to get to actually play the game.
Is the matchmaking on ppt2s on switch 2 active does anyone know?
>>729459351lol is fine, i'm just done for a bit. You familiar with mp in this game? as in playing against other actual people, cause your post makes me think you aren't.
>>729459873I played one or two matches with a real person before but that was before I was almost gud, I completely missed the ppt boat and right now I don't have a job and I'm in college for six more months so I can't get a switch 2 to see if ppt2s is active or not WHEN IS THE NEXT PUYO GAME NINTENDO MAKE IT A LAUNCH TITLE AAAAHHHHHHHH I guess in the mean time I can at least get 20 games off you every puyo thread at least.
>>729457826tetris gets hard as balls too with the advanced setups>mid-game DT cannons and super t-spin doubles>FIN TSDs>donation>blocking off your stack to do a t-spin>getting REN off garbageit's not as easy as it seems
>>729459351>>729460159Hey wait, you're the same guy I played months ago, from a /v/ thread, and you beat me back then too. Have you not been playing?
>>729460357I set the rules to 9 chain minimum back then before I realized it might be more realistic to go for fast 8 chains first. I'm way faster now right? Right?!? I made quite a few mistakes because I wasn't sure if I should just keep making 8 chains fast as possible or if I need to just keep chaining as long and fast as possible. Seriously SEGA is literally murdering and raping puyo puyo by not having cross play for all games, it can't be that hard.
>>729460631eh i can't really compare to your old self, I'm not at the skill where I can look at the opponent's screen and still comfortably build my chain. But but, I did feel that even in cases where I slowed down a good bit for a few pieces, i still would somehow windup ahead of you. >I made quite a few mistakes because I wasn't sure if I should just keep making 8 chains fast as possible or if I need to just keep chaining as long and fast as possible.idk what my max chain is, somewhere around 9-11? and from what I remember, you didn't really match that, or go past it. So for simplicity, if you can't beat someone's max chain, you just have to harass them and fuck them over.
>>729453250>fun gameplay>cute characters>decent amount of spinoff stuff mainly during compile's run if you want something a little different (madou monogatari, the series puyo spun off of, being an rpg, arle's adventure if you're into monster catching, waku waku puyo puyo dungeon if you're into mystery dungeon games, all the random discstation titles)people basically on all sites have their gripes with how the series is being handled but it's still decently popular for a reason.>>729454843there were quite a few threads that at least got over 100 posts a couple years or so ago that happened decently often despite the fact that there were no games coming out around then, all that can really be done is hope sega takes puzzle pop off of apple arcade or releases 35th anniversary or something. there will be a 35th anniversary game right? they wouldn't run back to quest again after releasing tetris 2 S right?
>>729461237puyo puyo and madou's humor really got me hooked up. the manzai scenes are great. the music too.the only thing I don't get is why sega has never put up a proper guide. it's always fans that pick up the slack in puzzle games
>>729461112Okay fine ill start tailing maybeNice 8 chain all clear in the first set BTW I guess
>>729453250>why is it popularGood music, whacky characters to play as, and a very good game when you get skilled enough. It does have a learning curve though, and it will take time to get good.>learning how to make basic bitch chains to beat the cpus>learning how to properly build openings which allows you to start doing longer chains>learning how to extend your chain past the tail and building in a way that you can create a second floor that doesn't disrupt the first floor's chain>learning how to deal with the leftover shit from a chain that didn't pop>learning how to build smaller chains on top of your actual chain to harass your opponent and avoid getting bricked when they harass you>>729456971>10 chainThat seems like overkill and if the person you're playing against is able to pull off a chain that large it means you most likely missed a chance to disrupt their board with a simple 3 chain.
>>729461667puyo's balance of fun gameplay and character interactions/lore (even despite gripes i have with how sega handles it sometimes) gives it a decently unique spice compared to most other puzzle games, it's really charming.>the only thing I don't get is why sega has never put up a proper guide. it's always fans that pick up the slack in puzzle gamesaside from basically having reused the same lesson structure of stairs/sandwich training ever since 15th/7 i don't really think they'll ever expand beyond that, feels like making you get used to a couple ways to chain and then sending you off to try those or doing something a little different is fine enough. i only wish they had something aside from playing against cpu or a friend to practice chaining with nuisance puyo like having the solo score attack mode drop some every once in a while like a few other puzzle games.
If only there was a way to play the game with others.
>>729453250It's popular?
>>729461237Arle's panties!
>PopularLol.
>>729463037>i only wish they had something aside from playing against cpu or a friend to practice chaining20th has practice mode where you can rewind very far back. you have infinite time since you can mash rewind to keep the piece in place
>>729464805Probably very stinky like the rest of her clothes!>>729464721it has been kind of dead for a while due to the english puyo games releasing but there is VS 2.
>>729464721>puyo vs 2 exists>no one /v/ ever uses it to play with anons
>>729464721I was just playing matches on ppt2 versus, and all of the players were puyos, maybe go check there?
