If you actually knew anything about paleontology then you'd know not one single instance of the fluffy Therapod depicted in modern media has ever been found. Only extremely small dinosaurs the size of living birds ever had the level of feathers shown in the video games and movies. Everything else AT BEST might have had some small feather-like structures during childhood.

Why does Frontier insist on making some dinosaurs don't look like they belong in Jurassic Park at all? They aren't incapable of doing it, but they don't even try for ones like Utahraptor, which should be a crime since it's been in the franchise since the beginning.
And why do I have to be stuck with a feathered Utahraptor at all while featherfags get an option to have a feathered Deinonychus just because they bitched about it enough?

I had this dino book as a kid, and it had the Yutyrannosaurus, which had feathers and was related to the T. rex. I think it's now considered a baby T. rex and not its own animal. Like how the Pachy, the dracorex, and a third one I'm forgetting are all one animal at different ages now.

The fossil that forms from the casting of the bone / etc. are generally made of a different type of rock. Sometimes, you can get clean cuts if it's well-preserved, other times, you have to reassemble them if the whole body wasn't preserved in that spot. Sometimes, it's so well-preserved that you can even do cool papers like this: https://royalsocietypublishing.org/rsos/article/7/6/200305/95452/Dietary-palaeoecology-of-an-Early-Cretaceous

>>
>>729465015
Many, many fossils are accidentally damaged or even destroyed when trying to dig them up. A lot of fossils are found usually be excavators or backhoes digging deep into rock or soil and accidentally destroying them into chunks. The vast majority of fossils we have today usually come from construction sites and are in generally poor shape. The ones that paleontologists actually spend effort to dig up are generally in better shape but even those can be damaged by improper extraction. >>729465061 for example, one of the best preserved fossils of all time, had the back half of it accidentally destroyed and turned to rubble when they were moving it from the dig site, hence why it has that metal wiring to keep the fragments they could recover in place.

I think the main issue with documenting dinosaurs as being feathered or not is that people treat it like politics and whole-heartedly believe one thing as being the ultimate, functional truth because it adheres to their worldview the best when the actual reality is complicated. The famous Tyrannosaurus Rex, for example, is one of the best documented dinosaurs species in the world and has had many preserved skin segments. Most scientific evidence is pointing towards almost all larger dinosaurs having minimal feathers, possibly only juvenile bristles that eventually fall off due to thermoregulation constraints. Smaller species like the velociraptors were feathered because of their reduced size and their arboreal nature. Even so, some larger, non-dinosaur species like the pterodactyls who were closely related had feathers due to the same thermoregulatory factors, since flying exposed them to cooler air and they better needed to regulate their own inner temperatures.

Yeah, but they're in water, and if they're out of water they get crushed under their own weight. Imagine if blue whales could walk on land, imagine what life would be like. Just look at how much damage an elephant causes when it strays into a populated area. The Argentinosaurus is estimated to hit up to around 80 tons, thats 20 tons of load bearing for each leg. Like bigger does not equal stronger, the bigger something is, the more muscle that's require just to support weight. They would have just had to be these super slow lumbering 6 story tall titans. It just seems fucking nuts.

the honest-to-god truth is that feathered dinosaurs in any piece of media would be fine if including them wasn't performative and just thrown-together slop (like anything these "devs" make)
actual dinos with feathers can be perfectly fine and intimidating and nobody would mind. There are plenty of interesting and nuanced designs they could go with. But nobody cares to make anything interesting, they just want to slap something together to get free advertising (like this thread).
Also, yes, most dinosaurs were featherless, at least the large ones, like t. rex and co.. The issue is always and exclusively with lazy design when they do want to implement them.
Bonus: JP was originally mostly realistic to the knowledge of the time with some specific exceptions (chameleon carnotaurus, they only see you if you move, dilophosaurus being a spitter, stuff like that) but most of these modern feathered depictions aren't even particularly cutting-edge. Just made based on whatever they saw was popular in paleoart last they checked.

So what I'm reading from this is that they had to play into audience expectations of what a big scary dino is supposed to look like in that era. For the sake of audience immersion. I don't really blame them honestly, and I think they made the right choice.

The question is, is this era of audience expecting feathers or scales? Because I can answer for myself that pure scalefaggotry is immersion breaking, but I'm not sure about the rest of the audience. Judging by the new JWE movies, I reckon the expectation with audiences lie with there being feathered dinos.

I think they just happen to draw from this specific era of trex paleo-art that loved slapping on the cope feathers, and haven't moved on from that. We've had fully feathered art of trex but that's from way back when feathers weren't as popular.

The JP3 velociraptor cope feathers were a laugh as well, but at least the design wasn't bad, and was mostly original.

Anyway, some kind of gigantic baby birds.

>She bent over, looking at the baby tyrannosaurs. One of the babies was cowering, its downy neck pulled into its body. But the second one behaved very differently. It did not move as they approached, but remained lying sprawled on its side, breathing shallowly, eyes glazed.

Baby birds don't have feathers
>>
>>729467761
They are specifically described by grant in the book as "theme park attractions" and the frog dna is why some could change gender to form breeding pairs. The whole point of Jurassic Park is a billionaire and some techbros said "this WILL be like we say it because we spent so much money" and the whole fucking moral of the story isn't "dont fuck with nature" its "dont expect plans to go how you want when the data says its destined to fail". More fucking techbros today should read it but honestly they'd probably get the wrong ideas and miss the message entirely.
>>
Some dinosaurs had feathers, hell, some could have had fur.
The truth is these fuckers have been dead for tens, hundreds of millions of years and we're making assumptions as best we can. Some, like Archaeopteryx definitely had feathers, it isn't unreasonable to assume others did.
We have an extremely fragmentary fossil record, stop sperging out and accept not all dinosaurs looked the same.

The tyrannosaur sniffed.
ā€œWhat is he doing?ā€ Lex said again.
ā€œSshhhh.ā€
With a low growl, the jaws slowly opened, and the tongue snaked out. It was
thick and blue-black, with a little forked indentation at the tip. It was four feet
long, and easily reached back to the far wall of the recess. The tongue slid with a
rasping scrape over the filter cylinders. Tim and Lex pressed back against the
pipes.
