Sometimes, you can get clean cuts if it's well-preserved, other times, you have to reassemble them if the whole body wasn't preserved in that spot. Sometimes, it's so well-preserved that you can even do cool papers like this: https://royalsocietypublishing.org/rsos/article/7/6/200305/95452/Dietary-palaeoecology-of-an-Early-Cretaceous
>>729465015>>they just chipped away at it very slowly and made no mistakes whatsoeverisn't it their who job to carefully carve the bone rocks out of the normal ones?
>>729465015Many, many fossils are accidentally damaged or even destroyed when trying to dig them up. A lot of fossils are found usually be excavators or backhoes digging deep into rock or soil and accidentally destroying them into chunks. The vast majority of fossils we have today usually come from construction sites and are in generally poor shape. The ones that paleontologists actually spend effort to dig up are generally in better shape but even those can be damaged by improper extraction. >>729465061 for example, one of the best preserved fossils of all time, had the back half of it accidentally destroyed and turned to rubble when they were moving it from the dig site, hence why it has that metal wiring to keep the fragments they could recover in place.

I think the main issue with documenting dinosaurs as being feathered or not is that people treat it like politics and whole-heartedly believe one thing as being the ultimate, functional truth because it adheres to their worldview the best when the actual reality is complicated. The famous Tyrannosaurus Rex, for example, is one of the best documented dinosaurs species in the world and has had many preserved skin segments. Most scientific evidence is pointing towards almost all larger dinosaurs having minimal feathers, possibly only juvenile bristles that eventually fall off due to thermoregulation constraints. Smaller species like the velociraptors were feathered because of their reduced size and their arboreal nature. Even so, some larger, non-dinosaur species like the pterodactyls who were closely related had feathers due to the same thermoregulatory factors, since flying exposed them to cooler air and they better needed to regulate their own inner temperatures.
>>729465461I saw a clip of this game have a t rex eat a part goer whole and thought "wow that seemed kind of fetishy" but figured I was overthinking it. Now I have my doubts.

The Argentinosaurus is estimated to hit up to around 80 tons, thats 20 tons of load bearing for each leg. >>729455868the honest-to-god truth is that feathered dinosaurs in any piece of media would be fine if including them wasn't performative and just thrown-together slop (like anything these "devs" make)actual dinos with feathers can be perfectly fine and intimidating and nobody would mind. There are plenty of interesting and nuanced designs they could go with. But nobody cares to make anything interesting, they just want to slap something together to get free advertising (like this thread). Also, yes, most dinosaurs were featherless, at least the large ones, like t. rex and co.. The issue is always and exclusively with lazy design when they do want to implement them.Bonus: JP was originally mostly realistic to the knowledge of the time with some specific exceptions (chameleon carnotaurus, they only see you if you move, dilophosaurus being a spitter, stuff like that) but most of these modern feathered depictions aren't even particularly cutting-edge. Just made based on whatever they saw was popular in paleoart last they checked.

I don't really blame them honestly, and I think they made the right choice. The question is, is this era of audience expecting feathers or scales? Because I can answer for myself that pure scalefaggotry is immersion breaking, but I'm not sure about the rest of the audience. A branch of small theropod dinosaurs evolved into birds, but they just didn't stop being dinosaurs. >>729475315There are still flightless birds with wings living today, anon.
>>729475315Anon, feathers evolved prior to birds. Birds happened to make use of a number of much older adaptations; a combination of hollow bones which became ubiquitous among dinosaurs, along with feathers which were apparently very common among smaller theropods, along with further adaptations, to eventually develop flight. Feathers server other purposes, like insulation, protection (they're a lot more resilient than you think), aerodynamics during speed or falls, and even basic sexual selection characteristics.
>>729475315Feathers were for insulation. Cold-blooded animals need to stay warm and feathers help with that.

>>729476501>i dont think anyone would care that dinos were discovered to be big birds.Dinosaurs were not discovered to be big birds. Birds are just a specific group of theropod dinosaurs. Think of it like if every mammal species got wiped out except for bats which survived and diversified thanks to their unique adaptation of flight and small size etc. Some future species evolves intelligence millions of years later, finds fossils of elephants and giraffes and hippos and wolves and shit and gets their own idea of what these creatures were based on bones alone (fur is not fossilized). In the meantime, bats are flitting around (maybe running around if some of them became land-oriented like birds did) the whole time but they're considered their own thing. Then eventually the pieces are put together that bats are just a type of mammal like these extinct ones, but this hypothetical intelligent species finds it hard to reconcile that these little flying things have anything to do with these fossil-creatures, since none of them fly or have evidence of fur.
>>729475841Because people who keep citing dinosaurs as scary aren't talking about the big dumb goofballs that largely existed before Jurassic Park. You aren't complaining about Gertie the Dinosaur or all the silliness in The Flintstones. Dinosaurs were monsters for creature features, then post-WW2 they were dumb slow animals, and then they were being revved back up for monsters in the 80s and 90s. Because The Science can never be wrong. The Science is settled
>>729476972birds only be a small group of dinosaurs n sheeitmost dinos wuz they own thang frfrlike how not every nigga is a crip but crips theyselves is niggas, you feel me?
>>729476896Yes. A subgroup of dinosaurs (birds)
>>729477032I'd consider this a shitpost but american education is horrid enough that it may be serious
>Evolution doesn't have branches, it's a single line from cell to fishy to Dino to birdy to monkey to human, okay?
>>729477147Dinosaurs, formerly birds, are whatever you want them to be. So feel free to go crazy! It's a lot like genderfluidity
>>729477032>This is where you are wrong>The current Science declares that humans are mammals. Anything that is not a human is not a mammal. So what are all those non-primate things that used to be considered mammals? They are now all humans. Pretty much half of all animals, including fish and other large turtles, are now humans. Because The Science can never be wrong. The Science is settled
>>729476815>then post-WW2 they were dumb slow animalsThat's not true at all.
>>729477242>brings up LGBTQ+ unpromptedobsessed much?
>>729477297They talk about gender fluidity despite Jurassic park being the movie that had the dinosaurs be gender fluid.
>>729477234That's exactly what the wikipedia article statesAll birds are dinosaurs. Mammals and lizards are an offshoot of birds The Science is settled >>729477280Humans are close to birds but are not birds so they are not dinosaurs, unlike alligators, which are birds
>>729477351For breeding purposes, unlike trannies who do it because they're mentally ill.
>>729477015Jurassic Park's designs hold up because they were some of the most cutting edge designs for dinosaurs at the time combined with monster movie flourishes. Warm-blooded, active quick, intelligent, and birdlike. Most media featuring dinosaurs prior to that were still running on 60s grade depictions of dinosaurs as sluggish, oversized lizards you could very easily outrun and outsmart.
>>729477281I'm so glad this bigoted depiction of birds has gone extinct
>>729477370Birds are descendants of theropods.Frankly discussion of this was fucked by the popsci "oh too bad" types saying chickens and turkeys instead of fucking eagles and hawks and shit to demean modern avians despite avians being one of the most evolutionary successful clades of organisms in modern times. They even have crows waiting for our extinction to give the civilization thing a shot.
>>729455868feathered dinosaurs are an ironically homosexual psyop
>>729474760Go look at a birds legs sometime, dumbass schizo. (((They))) have fingers in everything, but choosing to sperg out over the taxonomic grouping of birds is so retarded it's practically a false flag
>>729477370>Witness the humble amerimutt attempting to decipher basic science
>>729477420>Most media featuring dinosaurs prior to that were still running on 60s grade depictions of dinosaurs as sluggish, oversized lizards you could very easily outrun and outsmart. That's hardly true. In fact this guy >>729477281 posted an excellent example of a 60s dinosaur and it wasn't like that, either.
>>729473737By that logic then, humans are also fish.
>>729477610NoBirds ARE dinosaurs and theropods. They never went extinct
>>729474760>it goes against my preconceived notions therefore it's all lieslol
>>729477370>Mammals and lizards are an offshoot of birdsAnon... I....
>>729477894Read the reply chain"scientists" had to change the definition of what a bird is because it didn't fit in with their preconceived feather fetish
>>729477069thanks nigga. i appretiatious your ability to put it in a way a real nigga can understandious.
>>729477954Everything animal is a bird now because feathershit was on the brink of being disproven
>>729477727This is what the lack of gatekeeping does I am afraid.
>>729455868This thread made me want to play Ark again but then I remembered it's 100 trillion terabytes and hasn't had a good update in 10 years.
>>729455868Dinosaurs never existed, they are not real just made up shit by scam artists known as "paleontologist". A disgrace to the scientific community, they should be put next to cryptozoologists.
>>729477795All chordates are fish who went on land because they were too pussy to handle the chad ocean
>>729478030emh wowxir why dont you shut the fucking fuck up and trust the science!?
>>729478126>gatekeep gaslight girlboss... dinosaursYou totally aren't a tranny though
>>729478126Too much gatekeeping if anything, some idiot's free blog vs academic papers behind paywalls, guess which one gets more exposure
>>729478030>birds descended from earlier dinosaurs>they're labeled as dinosaurs as they still carry many of the features of theropodsJust admit that you're of low intelligence and can't understand.
>>729478228Ye but who's gonna read some tranny "scientists" gay-inducing fag paper, even if they were available?
>>729478305Yes birds and dinosaurs are exactly the same thing and always wereThat's what The Science tells us
>>72947830565 million years of evolution just ignored
>>729478378Performative and forced talking point.
Why isn't something like this considered a bird according to scientists?
>>729478305>they're labeled as dinosaursIt's very telling how there isn't a single other group of animals that are treated like thisIt's all newspeak being created in service of "proving" that all dinosaurs had feathers, because they were and are birds
>Why isn't this considered a bird according to the basedience guys
>>729470806Yeah and it gets its stupid fucking feather head blown off by one of my shotguns if it comes at me. Of course it won't because it knows not to fuck with me because I exude alpha pheromones. That's right. I am a werewolf. A gay werewolf. I fuck other werewolves. Featherfags and scalies get rekt.
>>729478817oh no a homosexual, looks like you enjoyed a feathered dinosaur one too many
>they called in the rest of their cordsee you in the next thread since they make one of these every single day
>>729478563I fucking hate pelicans And that thing looks like a pelican So I hate it
gay thread for faggotsthis is the correct form of dinos
I think it should be as simple as>keep Jurassic Park dinosaurs as scaly reptilian movie monsters for the sake of style preservation and >everyone else can use accurate and "real" dinosaurs if they want to.That way everybody wins.
>Imb4 ruskies shit this thread up as well
