Most 5D's era decks relied on low-level, weenie monsters to make Synchro plays. Then a control deck like Fire Fist sat on strong normals like Bear and Gorilla (1600) and stun you if you attempted to beat them over or remove them. If you did anything remotely threatening they couldn't answer in engine they'd pivot into the toolbox to remove it. The deck could naturally go second too since Bear/Gorilla proc off opponent interaction, and you could use Tensu to normal 2 Fire Fists and go into Exciton to nuke the board.

In a Maxx "C" less environment, you want pure Dracotail to go first because you can break it in-engine with another meta deck. Not Yummy but Maliss, VS and Ryzeal absolutely could with ease. But as Dracotail got rolled into fusion slop people started to realize that the cards were busted as fuck.Even then, there is tacit acknowledgement that Dracotail is weak by meta deck standards. It still blows out most 2024 or older decks. You'll notice the same arguments were made in favor of pure Ryzeal. Manageable endboard (for meta decks) yet Deadnamer pass is practically an FTK vs decks like Yubel, Voiceless, Centurion or Snake-Eyes.
