Why the hate for trophies/achievements? It makes you get more hours and more value out of your game.

It's fake value to make you do stupid shit for a frivolous reward instead of just engaging with the game on its own merits.
A COD game giving multiplayer skins and weapon blueprints for beating the campaign has more intrinsic value than any fuck-ass achievement.

It doesn't even help that there are whole ass store sections and communities dedicated to pushing games that make it easy to complete achievements just so people can pad out that number.

Because a lot of the time achievements are made to pad the game out instead of have content that makes you want to deal with the game. I love love love to 100% games but multiplayer achievements are always 100% of the time dogwater and there's so many games that extend their playtime just to force you to see absolutely everything possible.

You can 100% Hogwart's Legacy and they're still asking you to do another three 6 hour minimum playthroughs because you haven't done the other house's unique quests.
You can 100% Assassin's Creed Shadows, Horizon: Zero Dawn, every Insomniac Spider-Man game, and Ghost of Sushi and they want you doing a bunch of NG+ playthroughs that add nothing of substance to the game. Spidey 2 even requires three playthroughs minimum since you don't get enough skill points to max him out.

This is also why RetroAchievements sucks donkey dick if you're not actively looking at the list before you choose to play it. They will mandate guide gaming to get so many of their achievements or becoming speedrunners because "You're not a master until you have everything in the game!" which drives me up a wall. The only reason they even call it "Mastery" is so they can shitpost that reason towards anyone criticizing how bad their lists are vs. real retail lists. At least now they're starting to get their heads out of their asses and do revisions on many of the older and more popular games to remove 1ccs, damageless, speedruns, guide gaming, or hour long perfect playthroughs.

It also leads to issues where people will outright refuse to play a game or buy it if it doesn't have achievements. Then there's the people who stat pad and buy the worst games in existence because you get a 1000g/platinum for booting up the game at all.

I do it all the time. 70% of their lists are actually, without any hesitation, terrible. Go look at Mega Man Legends (Which had to have a revision to push the unbelievably awful achievements into the subset) and then look at MML2 (Which is still what it released with) which has you doing every boss damageless with the Mega Buster at the highest difficulty.
