Is Yooka Replayee any better than the original Yooka Laylee?
>>729478363More importantly is it now actually worth playing? I didn't play the original because I heard it was mediocre
>>729478404No.
dun, dun dun, dun, dududun! *kills everyone inda thread*
>>729478557Oh darn. I was hoping they took feedback and made it a good game
>>729478986I played both, anon.Neither had the 'magic'.Strike while the iron is cold.
>>729479949It's it at least better?
>>729478363Yeah, I'd say so. They got rid of the stamina meter and doubled the amount of shit to do and find. They also made it piss easy but you know, it's a scrimblo. It's still a lot weaker than just about all of the indie 3D platformers that get talked about here though, lol.
>>729478363Anons told me it was but refused to elaborate how.>>729478404The original was fun if you got it on sale. I liked it so much that I beat it twice in a row and started a third playthrough. Looking back, I may have overrated it because I don't play a lot of 3D platformers anymore, so they're nostalgic to me, but also there aren't a lot of 3D platformers in general and the few I've taken a look at in the past 20 years looked gay. I haven't liked Mario since 64 and I think A Hat in Time is cringe incarnate.
>>729480982>he played it more than oncebrainlet and tastelet this game was dog ass
>>729481256far better than a hat in time however
It's really not that great. You can polish a turd to a fine sheen, but it still stinks.Get it if you absolutely must have a bright and colorful scrimblo googly eyed romp.
Did they bring back the scrapped Jon sound clips?
>>729478363its even worseyooka laylee is a nortubel tier game anyway
>>729481330Laughably bad opinion to rate yooka laylee over hat in time. I am pointing at your post and laughing.
>>729480957Ok so it's easier but more to do. >>729481340I get what you mean. I might get it if it's on sale. Maybe it won't be a complete waste of time
>>729481495you only like ahit because of "cunny" though
>>729481256Can you explain why?
>>729481526No. The levels are creative and the movement mechanics are fun.
>>729481587I haven't played it, but I watched a couple people play it and the levels didn't look particularly interesting, and the movement looked floaty, like Hat Kid is being pulled into the air by her head. The humor is also cringey PBS Kids tier.
>>729481771Mafia port town, bird movie studio, and cat tokyo are way more creative and interesting than anything in yooka layleethe physics are also not floaty. You haven't even played the game what the fuck are you talking about.the humor sucks yeah but you can skip all the cutscenes
>>729481526I don't know what the hell the pedos see in that kid, that thing looks like a Mii. At least with Onirism you can see it. Nah, I also believe that HiT is pretty good. Solid momentum, pacing, novel challenges. Suffers from a lot of midgame levels just being flat boring planes with shit on them, but it won me over with that cat yakuza dlc.
>>729481526Western AAA companies think having a queer brown girlboss is the winning formula to distract people into thinking a mediocre game is spectacular. An indie dev knows featuring cu nny is the winning formula to distract people into thinking a mediocre game is spectacular.
>>729480957>They got rid of the stamina meterWhy is this a good thing? There's only two times you'd run out of stamina: if you were doing a rolling challenge and missed the butterflies (re: you failed the platforming challenge presented to you) or you're trying to fly everywhere - and I think most platformer fans would argue that's a good thing, what good platformer lets you fly everywhere? Actually, I was told being able to fly at all was one of the problems with the game. You know, because Mario and Banjo can't fly, right?>>729481894I would agree they're more novel settings than the generic settings in Yooka-Laylee, but I don't think novel = good.
>>729481924The cat yakuza level was pretty fun but the way it ends is super unsatisfying
>>729478363Yeah. The gameplay's more steamlined and the controls feel tighter. They pretty much went "What if Banjo, but Mario 64 + Odyssey?"My only gripe is the devs took the wrong lessons from that and went overboard with the dopamine, basically putting jingling keys everywhere, rewarding you at every turn with Quids (coins) and Pagies for simply breathing.
>>729482273Because your basic dash ability being tied to a meter is annoying. Flying is the thing they limited more in Replaylee with time-limited launch points.>because Mario and Banjo can't flyIs this a bit or did we forget about the dumb hat with wings in M64 or Kazooie's borderline infinite flight as long as you had the feathers for it.
>>729481495Yooka was definitely better. Hat was forgettable and you're bored by the time you finish the first level. Yooka was good if you actually played it instead of just jumping on a bandwagon.
you're not worth replying to any more
>>729481526Maybe people like how it feels more Super Mario Sunshine than Sunshine with a hint of TTYD mixed in, but go off about the pedos that live in your head rent free everytime you see a little girl character
>>729482757>pedo copeLMFAO!!!!!!!
>>729481924>don't know what the hell the pedos see in that kid
>>729482332People said the levels didn't have enough collectibles. If you removed eggs and feathers from BK, YL actually has more collectibles, but it was the "vibe" that people didn't like, looking out into a world and not seeing shiny things everywhere.>>729482501>Because your basic dash ability being tied to a meter is annoyingIt's not a basic dash, it's like a charging ability, limiting your turn rate to give you a speed boost. I guess it's comparable to Mario's long jump and Banjo's trot, but you don't play those games by spamming those, do you? I felt like I rolled around a lot and never ran out of stamina.>Is this a bitYes, it was sarcasm.
>>729483010>I guess it's comparable to Mario's long jump and Banjo's trot, but you don't play those games by spamming those, do you?Yeah, I do, the YAHOO and BK trot brrbrr sound effects are in my head forever. Momentum is a giant part of what makes these games fun.
>>729478363instead of a blatantly bad 3d platformer its a "meh" one now.also while this update fixed a bunch, it also ruined the classic speech sounds and removed the story quizzes.internally i think the playtonic team started to hate banjo after the original yooka release.
>>729483294The game was not bad, but reviewers trying to get revenge for JonTron said it was so they listened to their complaints, and those were two things they complained about. For years, I've tried to get anons to give me real complaints about the game and I've only gotten a couple.
i can't look at this game's title without thinking about rape
Poi and Pilfer Story of Light are pretty good.
I was mildly entertained by Yooka Laylee years back when I played it and I honestly can't see myself playing Replaylee unless they sell it for under $5.
>>729483415Levels are way too large in the original. None the less you'll be revisiting them once you expand them. You'll be tied to any skill that makes you travel faster because it's a bunch of walking from point of interest to point of interest. The casino level exacerbates this the most.
>>729483415It's aggravatingly, aggressively mediocre and I'm saying this as a backer who didn't fall for the hate boner train. It's just an ok game with so many questionable to bad design choices and comes off dated even in the year it released. It really feels like a game that would've come out on the 360 or a semi-sequel to N&B, what with the tacked on physics puzzles.I never really understood the "le too big and empty" criticism people were bitching about because compared to BT, traversal was much faster in YL and less of a slong from getting to point A to B and when it comes to the level design, it was an issue of poor convenance, where the devs were more focused on making the Quills more of a scavenger hunt instead of using them to subtly guide players along.
>>729485149Ah a fellow backer.Have you had the chance to play replaylee yet then? I'm about to.I played the original a total of 3 times, and frankly always thought it was 'okay', which was pretty much the same as 'disappointing', because we did expect a lot more from the game we backed.I'm hoping at least to be more engaged by replaylee than I was with the original, since it felt weirdly bloated and empty at the same time.
what did they mean by this
>>729485054Obviously that's subjective. I played the game two and a half times and I never thought the levels were "way too large." I'm not sure what was different about our playthroughs or expectations that lead to you feeling that way, but I thought the levels were appropriately sized. Points of interest are often right next to each other, I actually think sometimes they could've used a bit more breathing room or gave players more opportunities for exploration. You also say you'll be revisiting them once you expand them, but I think almost all of them can be expanded outright. I was not a fan of that mechanic so I skipped it. The developer claimed they put that mechanic in the game to help ease people into larger levels. It obviously didn't work if you used it and are still complaining about the levels. Older games were more claustrophobic as a necessity because the draw distance was so terrible. There's at least one jiggy I remember in BK you can't see until you're already jumping towards it.>>729485149I'm fine with calling it mediocre since I don't have anything to compare it to. Everyone acts like we're inundated with 3D platformers but then can't name any. A Hat in Time does not look better than YL and I played both Sunshine and Galaxy for a couple hours and dropped them, so where's all the great 3D platformers at?
>>729485432>Have you had the chance to play replaylee yet then? Yeah, a few months ago for free. They gave backers a 30% discount, but really, it should either be free or heavily discounted. $30 shekels is a fair enough price for it imo.>I'm hoping at least to be more engaged by replaylee than I was with the originalI'm sure you will be. Like I said in >>729482332 there's never a dull moment with how much the game spews Quids at you and challenges/Pagies are a few feet apart from one another. The only thing that really sucks still are the fucking transformations. They STILL don't add much to the experience besides maybe in galaxy level, but other than that, they should've just been cut entirely since the challenges for them are practically the exact same like they were in the original, but slightly tweaked.
