Death Stranding is the movie Kojima wanted to make, and he realized that since he makes games and not movies there needed to be some gameplay in this movie. That's why the gameplay feels unorthodox and that's why the end of the game is basically three hours of cutscenes. Kojima doesn't make games for you to enjoy, he makes them to tell his story
