are drones too overpowered to be in combined arms games?
people are putting too much stock in a war fought between two third world countries
>>729480782>imagine still using a slow as fuck rock on a wheel that poops gravel in 2025 soon to be 2026
laser attached to an automated device that detects radio waves like those given off by an RC vehicle, and then blasts it when it gets too close.
in combined arms that excludes electronic warfare, yes
>>729482352just attach a fibreoptic wire to the drone you are now immune to electronic warfare
>>729482446>glorified TOW missileimpossible to counter...untill we intent scissorrs
>>729482534we have not invented scissors yet it seems
>>729482631literally just build big scissor that go snibbidy snab every 30 sec to cut wirebam drone immunity but slavshits are too fucking retarded
>>729480782>counters your firecrackerWhat now?
>>729482943that's a hairy arse...
>>729480782Why is this more effective than rockets? How come there's no buckshot countermeasure for this? It seems to fly so awfully slow you can just shoot it down
>>729483051seriously nigger....?
>>729483168they're fair questions
>>729483051You can shoot it down. You just gotta have a skeet shooting pro riding on top of your every vehicle.
>>729483751Don't they have automatic skeet shooters that shoot down rockets? Surely the cost of equipping every tank with one of those covers the cost of building new tanks.
>>729483825Who's this "they"? If you're talking about APS on, say, Merkava, it will fuck your infantry if they're in the way and it is tuned for missile speeds, and if you lower it down, you will have a ton of false positives, like birds and just random stuff.
>>729484153>Who's this "they"?Armed forcesHow do you counter drones effectively then? Why not just switch exclusively to drones?
>>729483051>Why is this more effective than rockets?Rockets require a direct line of sight from the shooter to the target, which in turn means that the shooter needs to expose themselves to be able to fire. Drones don't have this problem. A drone launching also doesn't immediately give away the position of the operator in the same way that a rocket launching does.>How come there's no buckshot countermeasure for this? It seems to fly so awfully slow you can just shoot it downThey're very small and a lot quicker than the videos make it seem. You have very little time to realize there's a drone flying towards you, spot it, and shoot it down before it's too late.
>>729484238>How do you counter drones effectively then?the 'armed forces' are still figuring that out. there are multiple competing solutions like>anti-drone notes>jammers>a shotgun>ai-tracking gun emplacements>not valuing the lives of your soldiers as much as a drone holding a grenade
>the crazy new method of warfare that everyone is trying to solve>it's mortars 2
>>729486281indirect fire has always been OP. hit them when they can't hit you = you win

>>729486552Retard
>>729480782all that we need is the development of ai powered shotgun turrets loaded with birdshot
>>729480782By building cuck cages around your armored vehicles.
>>729486281mortars 2 was was missiles launched over the horizon from a flying missile boat and we had that back in desert storm
>>729486692projection. everything that runs on electricity produces EMF waves. even living creatures like (you). how do you think sharks detect their prey? they can sense the little electrical impulses that get emitted when the fish brains tell their muscles to move. Modern WiFi is strong enough it can not only map the inside of youu house, it can detect where all the people and animals are within it simply by charting the disturbances in the EMF waves from its operation. you think the military doesn't have access to this sort of tech?don't mouth off when you don't know what you're talking about.
>>729487180>everything that runs on electricity produces EMF waves. even living creatures like (you).wowieee, free noise>how do you think sharks detect their prey? they can sense the little electrical impulses that get emitted when the fish brains tell their muscles to move. And I have two round detectors inside of my head, full of emf sensors too>Modern WiFi is strong enough it can not only map the inside of youu house, it can detect where all the people and animals are within it simply by charting the disturbances in the EMF waves from its operation.Weak. It's weak enough to be bounced off by regular objects, letting a transmitter and a receiver pair map said objects based on said bounces.Just like my receivers can map out on object if I use a transmitter to bounce some emf off it. But the emf in spectrum of my receivers is not strong enough to pass through that object. In other words if I shine a flashlight at a wall I can't see though it. Fiber optic cable uses a very similar wavelength, and is also wrapped in an ibsulator blocking it from escaping>you think the military doesn't have access to this sort of tech?A camera that can see a cable? I think they have that. A magic device that senses fiber? No
>>729488382>weak enoughno, strong enough. or more properly, granular enough. it has to be able to penetrate walls, and be capable of detecting the difference between a wall and open air.we aren't talking about the cable, doofus. you think the motors that make the props on a drone spin runs on pixie dust?christ
>>729486009This seems like a neat product until you realize the future is drone swarms of thousands. It'll be like the end of the matrix trilogy.
>>729480782Dont worry bro. I reas that ukraine plus nato will destroy the russ, any minute now
>>729480782Why did it take everyone this long to figure out the got can strap bombs to RC helicopters?
>>729489085hasn't been a real war in forever. the u.s has enough money to just waste on billion dollar missiles to blow everything up. ukraine is poor as fuck and used it out of necessity as did other smaller scale conflicts.
>>729489085because RC helicopters used to be unstable and pretty hard to fly until about 15 years ago when quadcopters first started appearing, along with the computer chips necessary to run the auto-levelling software that keeps them from going out of control if you breathe on the stick wrong. then there's the cultural momentum of "radio control is a kids toy" leading to the crusty old men in charge of MIC development not even considering it an option until they all retired and younger fresher blood with new ideas started coming in.
>>729482631Insane lan party
>>729482631>all this free cableschweet
>>729483051basically you're fucking stupid and would be killed in 5 minutes in ukraine
>>729484238Artillery is still the king of the battlefield. Drones can't compete. The most effective use of drones is real time spotting for artillery. Ukrainians rely heavily on drones because they have no artillery or manpower
>>729483051Imagine needing to be aware of a 180 degree dome around you at all times. That isn't feasible.
>>729489085>>729489275RC was used on missiles as soon as possible on missiles, but mass manufacturing small, cheap and relatively advanced electronics is a recent thing.
bring back the punt gun
>>729480881I don't care how they kill their sons, daughters, fathers, mothers, neighbors, etc. I just want to see how war is waged in the 21st century. It's interesting. If they didn't want war they would just stop fighting.
>>729486009>fly in front of the truck in the dead zone of the detection range>take out the engine and artillery strike it>win
>>729480782>some weak ass explosives with no penetrationAll this is going to result in is less infantry on the front lines and more bomb suits.
>>729490859exo-skeleton armor is going to be the next big thing for infantry. Lots of progress in that sector over the past decade.
>>729488807>Point of drones is they are cheap>Just deploy thousands bro>Now cost as much as a traditional missile but an order of magnitude more logistics involved Ok retard
How far are we from ai controlled drones and ai controlled countermeasures? Dumping all the planets resources into robot wars would be kinda funny.
>>729490930>exo-skeleton armor is going to be the next big thing for infantryLol. LMAO
>>729491114both already exists and are in use
>>729480782FPV drones are far less effective than this and cannot disable modern armored vehicles. Tanks and APCs/IFVs require specialized anti-tank drones and even then they're of questionable viability.
>>729491114>would be kinda funnyFor a certain Skynet definition of funny
>>729491293B-but the propaganda staged videos!
>>729491293They are also expensive to make. Only reason Ukraine can produce so many is because of all the money the stole. Look at all the wars happening in Africa and South East Asia. Barely any drone footage (cause they are fighting with scraps)
>>729491293This video is misleading, you need to hit the tank in a very specific angle and hope the rng is good to you if you want to do 1hit kill, most of the time you're gonna be using 2 or 3 drones. RPG does more damage and has more penetration..This is War Thunder new infantry mode (close beta)
>>729491412>money the stole
>>729491293>FPV drones are far less effective than thisNot shit anon, it's fucking Warthunder. This is the game that made the Terminator one of the most OP vehicles on the battlefield, whereas the only combat footage I've seen these pieces of shit is them blowing up.
>>729486998This desu, bar armour worked for us brits in Afghan, not from drones, but from pot shot rpg blast trying to tip mastiffs into canals or Chinese rockets stuck in trees

>>729482534There is one video of a ukie or Russian doing exactly that.
>>729490846Yes, this is the basic concept of "combined arms".
>>729488807>drone swarmyou just jam them bro wtf? also emp
>>729494349No you dumb nigger. It's just your current monarch's way of tapping down on dissent. As long as it seem a "fringe' belief, along with the other outsiders, then normies won't adopt it and threaten their power.
>>729491114>How far are we from ai controlled drones and ai controlled countermeasures?Degree of drone autonomy is really more a matter of an ethical/social distance than a technological distance. You can already put the ability to identify targets (reliability will vary) on a drone, and you can also put the ability to try to fly into a target on a drone (again, reliability will vary). The big red line to pay attention to is if/when someone decides it's okay to let a drone autonomously decide to engage a target, rather than being ordered to do so by a human operator. Because crossing that line opens up a huge can of worms with regard to responsibility and accountability for fuck-ups. Who's responsible if the drone misidentified the target? How do you stop people from using "the drone did it on its own, not me" to avoid being held accountable? Nobody is ready to handle that shit yet.
