there has never been a good sumo in a fighting game
>>729488946Because its fundamentally boring. They just push and slap. Japan tries to make it work out of pride, but yeah...
>tfw honda is officially only an ozeki in sumo and not yokozunayeah maybe if he gets his fat ass to promote then he can be good
>>729488946I read they wouldn't even allow the SF2 arcade cabinet in the one of the main venues in Tokyo that also held sumo matches because Honda's face paint was considered a huge disgrace to the sport and was sacriledge. Kind of ironic they take it that seriously, yet Capcom just flagrantly shits all over it and makes him more and more a goofy kabuki parody with every game.
Hinako
>>729488946they need jiggle physics
>>729490109Hinako is unironically very cute.
>>729489489The sumo organization has always been a laughing stock and Nips have been shitting on them since as early as the 90's. Aah! Harimanada started on the same year SF2 was released.
>>729490315I'm very new to sumo but I read that the JSA hated hakusho because he never really cared for traditions or some dumb shit like he celebrated too muchIt's funny how backwards japan is sometimes
>>729488946The sport doesn't really lend well to straight martial arts fights. It is based on a specific rule set and works best for that
>>729489060So it's like baseball
I love sumo, but I hate Honda>incredibly gimmicky, defensive playstyle>comic relief character>his abs are grotesque, just let him be a fat fuckA truly authentic, deep sumo character should embody all the styles of sumo. I think the fighting game archetype that would best embody sumo is something like a rushdown grappler - a character that's good at getting in with burst options, and then transitions to strike-throw mix-ups that are very effective in the corner. But Honda being a charge character means that his burst options are too telegraphed.I'd also like to see a sumo character get some less traditional moves, especially if they're an antagonistic character>Hakuho's elbow blast with a hit of armor if charged or EX>Hoshoryu's sotokage as a fast, extremely close-range sweep, or his judo throws>Ura's ashitori as a command grab that can low profile overheadsetc.
>>729491049Honda is probably the only character who is completely unviable as a tournament character in SF6 outside gimmicking somebody for a gamehe needs charge removed entirely like vega in sf5 because like you said, it just leads to an extremely telegraphed playstyle which isn't like sumo at all where everything is lightingquick
>>729491362>the only character who is completely unviable as a tournament character in SF6*laughs in Manon*
>>729490554>import wrestler from Mongolia>he doesn't act Japanese
>>729491049>I think the fighting game archetype that would best embody sumo is something like a rushdown grappler - a character that's good at getting in with burst options, and then transitions to strike-throw mix-ups that are very effective in the corner. That would be really cool actually. Making him charge was really stupid.
I think sumo is difficult to translate to traditional fighting games because the most interesting aspects of sumo, grappling and throwing, are so mechanically simple in fighting games. You get a grab, you get oki, you do your mix-up, including another grab. At best, it's boring. At worst, it's SF6's throw loops.Given that sumo can't really be accurately represented within the constraints of traditional fighting games, I'd rather see a good sumo character in a 3D fighter or platform fighter, especially ones with ring-outs. I haven't played VF, so I don't know whether Taka-Arashi feels like a good sumo character, but I think King's throw system comes the closest to representing sumo despite being inspired by lucha libre. The bug from RoA also strikes me as a sumo character. He's big, heavy, can get in against you, and has a command grab. He's like a brawler / grappler. He wants you to get scared so you parry or shield, and then his command grab starts combos that are better the closer he is to you. The other thing is that he thrives at the ledge and the edge, which is fitting for a sumo character. The mechanics of most games just end up working against it.
>wake up>new sumo violence scandallol...
ganryu is unironically the bottom 1 least popular tekken char according to harada
Rate my sumo character pitch>Overweight poor high schooler in America from a broken home who attends an Inner-City school>Aspires to be a football player for a sports scholarship but is ostracized for his weight>Tries various training regimes, nothing works until he researches sumo which leads to success>Upon graduation he decides to do whatever he can when not attending classes to compete in fighting tournaments to earn money to help out his home neighborhood with the fight money>Fighting style is a combination of sumo moves and football tackles>Is REALLY shy, never takes off the helmet which obscures his face
>>729488946>A good sumoThey're called rikishii. Sumo is the sport.
>>729492816Who did what this time?
>>729493508Rikishi technically refers to salaried wrestlers, westerners calling them sumo or sumo wrestlers is perfectly fine.
>>729493528Lower level dudes at kise stable got in a fight over a stolen wallet. Apparently it's their 3rd offence but whatever, there's always more chances as long as you aren't name Hakuho
>>729491049>his abs are grotesque, just let him be a fat fuckSumo wrestlers can have abs you know.
>>729493770I wish I could've watched Toshi in his prime
>>729490554They hated Hakuho because they couldn't control him and he kept winning. Guy's head was shoved so far up his ass he could lick his own ears.>>729491694There's been plenty of Mongolian Yokozuna who've adopted Japanese ways and customs, but at the same time it's not like Japanese Yokozuna bend over and take JSA dick either. Kakuryu and Terunofuji seem fine with the Japanese way of doing things. Hell, Harumafuji was forced to retire because he was TOO into the Japanese way of doing things.
>>729493905Well mow we have Aonishiki. I miss Aoiyama's fat tits...
>>729493770Yeah when then don't have gigatons of fat like Honda
>>729489142The question is who the fuck is beating him? A Basho is like 14 matches in 14 or 15 days. How is he fumbling so hard? It has to be a case of him being a massive retard with his non-traditional style netting him unnecessary losses
>>729494028A mongolian half his weight
>>729493980>Harumafuji was forced to retire because he was TOO into the Japanese way of doing things. How can that even be possible?
>>729488946Boring copy & paste caricatures like E. Honda and Ganyu from Tekken are some of the lamest characters ever made, it's like the Bruce Lee knockoffs every fighting game used to have but even more boring. Some examples of sumo wrestlers done right would be Hinako from KoF and Gan from Rival Schools. Having a unique and interesting visual design goes a long way in making those characters actually look fun.
>>729494456>A bunch of Yokozuna plus friends and young wrestlers go to a restaurant>At one point Hakuho the great Yokozuna gives a young wrestler advice on him sumo>Young guy ignores him and gets his phone out>Harumafuji asks what the fuck he thinks he's doing ignoring a great Yokozuna like that>Young guy says he's texting his girlfriendHarumafuji stood straight up and smacked that kid so hard it made the news and he was forced to retire. Although of the three Yokozuna ever made to retire he's the only one the JSA still associates with.
>>729494628>Harumafuji stood straight up and smacked that kidbased beyond fuck
>>729489142>honda and ganryu aren't yokozuna because one's a world-trotting weirdo and the other was in some gambling scandal>taka-arashi is a yokozuna, and is the most traditional and also the best of them gameplay-wiseoddly fitting
>>729494028He misses tournaments due to street fighting
>>729488946>mongolian >yakuza connection>femaleDo one of these instead of another trad Jap
>>729490554It used to be a question as to whether a non-Japanese guy could become a yokozuna, and there was one Mongolian guy who never became yokozuna and it was speculated it was because of that. But it's not really an issue anymore with the several Mongolian yokozuna, and the potential Ukrainian one
>>729494492Japs are still arrogant and stuck in their old ways despite cucking and worshipping westerners after the war. It's in their dna to be stubborn and not adapt. They release the same characters every game with the same terrible clunky control scheme on account of "tradition" and not what's fluid and good. This is why they lost to America in the first place. Bombing pearl harbor was probably one of the dumbest decisions in the history of war.
>>729495315>Bombing pearl harbor was probably one of the dumbest decisions in the history of war.I still don't know what they hoped to accomplish, provoking a country 20x their size.
>>729495039This post is so wrong and stupid. The first non-Japanese Yokozuna was a Hawaiian in 1993. And not one Mongolian contender for Yokozuna has ever come close but been denied. The sheer fact that Takakeisho was denied is all you need to know that they aren't discriminating based on nationality. Takanohana was denied Yokozuna promotion for no good reason and had to go all the way to 7 tournament wins before they gave it to him. HE WAS JAPANESE.
