okay but why are there 20 different damage types all with their own dot counterparts and their own bonuses of percent vs flat damage which affect different things from skills or just weapon damage (which some skills are weapon damage) and are sometimes global affecting and sometimes not and sometimes stack with each other and sometimes don't and then we get into damage conversions which all have their own priority and can stack on top of each other except for armor piercing conversion which for some reason has lower priority than all other times oh and don't even get me started on the order of defense formula and the different kinds of armbor absorption, damage absorption, armor rating, or retaliation damage and of course there's the way that some things stack additively, multiplicatively, or seemingly not at all and only take the highest value applied at completely fucking random from different sources WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON

I mean you can fumble your way through normal and elite with anything sure but if you don't know how to build damage types appropriately you will not be able to handle the superboss celestials on ultimate in any reasonable manner, and generally the whole point of these games is to become as optimally powerful as possible and do the biggest numbers which requires a certain understanding of how damage is calculated or else you'll just be gearing up with a bunch of shit that doesn't actually help you at all

You can *finish* ultimate just fine, even though you won't be able to beat the most difficult content. I got all of my ultimate HK achievements as a meme summoner tank Death Knight, whose skeletons couldn't even deal enough damage to effectively kill healers.

All you need to know is that you can't do back to back conversion and that skill conversion takes priority over gear but even that is already past the scope of what you need to know to beat the game.
On softcore you can also power though Ultimate with minimal knowledge, just getting a feel for stats and putting on what feels good.
There's nothing wrong with wanting to know the ins and outs of the game's mechanics but I take offense with people claiming you HAVE to know all this.

the point was that if you do want to understand how your damage is stacking it's incredibly complicated and it's very easy to fall into redundant pitfalls that make you weaker by building into things that don't actually compliment each other at all
resistance reduction is an easy example of something that can do basically nothing for you if you don't do it right

The constellations giving points to allow you to get other constellations is a major problem. Having abilities tied to these cuts into classes. You have to play through the game multiple times to even unlock all the points and then the skills have to be levelled up from use.
The whole thing is a mess and it's bullshit that the game works as well as it does.

the constellation system is one of the best parts, especially being able to have constellations self-sustain themselves. It makes it into one big puzzle to work what you want out of it and it gives you some consistent form of meta progression through all of the classes that you learn more nuances about as you play different masteries that need different constellations

Individualized armor stats for each piece with randomized allocation of damage location, armor absorption mechanics and stats which allow your armor to soak up more armor than otherwise, universal armor in utility slots like the belt or skills or whatever, and then at the end of the day it only even works for a single damage type and doesn't even help you with its counterpart DoT to mitigate damage.
It's so weirdly obtuse.

I'm playing 2H warder (shaman/soldier) with savagery and blade arc
I got a gutsmasher and built the bleed constellations and it's fun

though going primal strike with lightning would be more legally distinct from cadence than going savagery. Primal strike is an awesome feeling skill, and you would probably go into something else like demo or occultist

2nd class may be inquisitor or soldier, and specific gear might differ between them, but overall setup is the same. You just have two piercing weapons, 100% WPS pool and kill shit with it.

Nightblade, not soldier, is the strongest melee class because of the whole DW lineup, because it also has very good aoe skills, additional movement skill and a panic button, and because there are items which enable its full combination with basically any other class. Some time ago some people made a rating of strongest builds and more than half of them were nightblade+something.

This is true unfortunately. I actually like the spreadsheet part and making builds in grimtools. But the gameplay is meh and there's not much interesting/challenging combat. Also the grinding aspect is uninteresting.

The max item level should be locked around 70. Horizontality > verticality.
I lose all interest to play the moment I reach 94 lvl
They really should add dynamic difficulty mod and remove rep grind dogshit. I'm don't want to do humiliation rituals like lore notes 1-30 run, shrine run. Even playing Elite > Ultimate or Normal > Ultimate is slog. Just let me play the game where difficulty increases after set amout of acts.

GD's systems are insanely overcomplicated for what the game is. Every single thing has something that works in an ass backwards way you have to search from random forum posts that sometimes contradict eachother because nobody else fucking knows either.
