Does being in Smash really change the image of a franchise/character to the public? Bomberman used to be loved, but now he's seen as a failed/loser franchise because he got BTFO as an Assist Trophy.R1 sold millions since it came out before smash, but R2 flopped since Smashfags only wants games with playable characters. Can't even get games on NSO or a collection.

With R1 people were kind of excited at the prospects of the return of Bomberman, especially since Konami were kind of paying lip service to the idea of them getting back into vidya development. But R2 was absolutely not what people who bought R1 wanted, and if anything, Konami making R2 at all instead of working with R1 kind of made R1 worth less and even ignoring that point, R2 still wasn't what fans wanted. Classic Bomberman is great fun. But Bomberman fell off when they stopped making adventure games and like, larger broader games with Bomberman. The classic Bomberman parts still used to be a game in all of these games. But now the classic part is like all we're getting and it kind of feels like we're missing a broader game. And then there is also the little detail of how numerous fangames had already by far improved upon the classic formula, so if you were truly seeking the classic gameplay for the classic gameplay itself, as opposed to a cool supplement to a broader adventure game, then R1 or R2 are not where you'd be looking. It has fuckall to do with Smash. Why would you ever even think that?
