Because since tortanic and gamergate, the focus of /v/ has shifted from talking about video games to talking about what people are saying about video games, and discussion about people related to video games. It's not really a hobbyist forum anymore so much as it is an aggregator for video game related media events and dramas happening elsewhere. Focused discussion about a game itself and your experience with the game are generally frowned upon here. It should be no surprise that /v/ now attracts people who aren't really interested in video games and are just here for juicy gossip about cringy nerds.
