The classic P5 is unironically one of the best games of the 21st century. One of the best JRPGs in general.

Which Persona or SMT should I play if I want likeable characters and believable dialogue? I completed Metaphor recently and the writing bored me to death with every character talking like ChatGPT and all development taking place via exposition. But I want to give these games another go cause I did like the battle system.

While p5 cast was definitely the worst. P3 clows are pretty close, with retarded "school club to fight demons" premise, and for some reason protag being forced to pay from his pocket for party equipment, despite there being literally a rich bitch as the "leader".
Protag being a giant pussy without option to stomp junpei into bloody mess the second he tried to pick a fight with you, was really pathetic too. It's like the writers never interacted with human being during their school years or something.

The first story arc is the strongest one and supposed to be the one that hooked you on the game. Afterwards it gets worse up until the Royal content. The main cast is the worst among 3-4-5. It has its moments and memes, but if you didn't like it from the beginning you won't like it at all in general.
