i was reading through the konosuba LNs in japanese for 2-3 hours/day, but after doing this for 2 months, and spending my remaining waking hours in front of my pc, my eyes have gotten weird. my eyelids start twitching when staring at the screen now and i have a strong urge to close them after a while of use.

i was adding the unfamiliar words in the LN to anki after each volume and i was making giga progress in my nipponese as well. what do i do chat ;-;

I personally think it makes sense to learn vocab and grammar first before jumping into input. Going straight into reading or other forms of input before you have a base-level understanding of grammar and vocabulary isn't going to end well and most will end up just burning out trying to look up things that they learn while doing the deck.
People should just do whatever works for them at their own pace though, I'm not here to dictate how you should learn Japanese.

Advising people to output instead of focusing on input is just a way of keeping people weak at the language and wasting time on shit that isn't actually helping them.
Output is fundamentally limited by one's ability to comprehend input, and therefore there is little benefit to comprehension in telling someone to write or speak when they stand to gain more from reading and listening.
There's a time to care about output but it's so far down the road for most people that they really shouldn't worry about it since they'll get better at it just by watching more, listening more, and reading more, only needing to build the connections to summon it up for use AFTER the language is pretty solid in their soul.

I (personally) use Japanese in my daily life, I speak to Japanese students at my college, I translate english sentences into written japanese for them. I require output. I think output is useful because it gets me to comprehend japanese better, and also so I can communicate better. If I use a word or phrase wrong then the japanese people correct me and I learn something new. Something that never would have had been corrected if I didn't speak to Japanese people.

That's not to say that input isn't important, it still is an integral part of learning the language, but a lot of AJATT posters miss the mark when it comes to how much input you need vs output. You should still do Anki every day along with other immersive input, but you should also practice speaking and writing and get feedback from people who actually speak the language fluently. Even if you suck (you will suck) you'll learn a lot more than shoving another hour of input into your brain.

My advice to anyone who really wants to learn Japanese is just pony up for a university course, at least two years. That'll cover a bunch of vocab, grammar, and kanji, and you can take it from there. The benefit is that the teacher will ensure you actually learn your shit, and spending money on it will keep you motivated since you already paid for it.

Some people can learn on their own but there's stuff that you will simply need explained to you, it's different for every person.
