I'm pretty sure the meme originates from this one mandatory conversation on Nar Shadaa. You interact with a beggar, and then Kreia criticizes your actions, and you get the chance to defend them. It's a longer conversation, so there's options to do both light and dark side things and also both gain and lose some points. The game reports them all in one screen like this at the end.

Tyranny is one I've actually played. It's a dialogue-heavy CRPG with real time combat. Decently fun with minimal but a little fag stuff. You also have the option to side with the "bad guys" which is honestly what most players seem to do (I did the first time) even though the devs added that later and the original game was meant to always have you rebel against your boss.

You play as a kind of special ops lawyer in a fantasy bronze age setting, so you spend a lot of time arguing with people and there's several conversations where you can go about things in different ways and it can be kind of cryptic/vague what certain NPCs want at first if you don't look it up or have the right stats to give you a hint.

It actually makes sense if you read the Darth Bane trilogy. Been listening to the audiobooks of it and they do sound effects and everything and the narrator is really good.

the dark jedi inherently produces power hungry people that unlike the jedi cannot stay allied with each other for long, and will always work to betray each other (i.e. three mediocre apprentices backstab and kill a sith master that was actually valuable to brotherhood, and the three mediocre apprentices go off to do jack shit/backstab each other making the sith master die for no reason). It's like trying to corral a bunch of retarded crabs, it's not sustainable, and IIRC they were getting their shit pushed in by the Jedi over the long haul. Bane's rule of two instead consolidates a bunch of mediocre apprentices into one strong apprentice and an even stronger master to do a slow infiltration of politics, crime, corporations, etc actually hands the Sith their first lasting victory in thousands of years in canon (that we see in Episode 3). Basically the Sith are too retarded to stay genuinely organized, and the only reason they can do it in Book 1 is because of another spoiler

Highly recommend the books, especially the audiobook narrated by the same guy that narrated the Revenge of the Sith novelization. It's about the only good EU content imo and makes you remember what star wars could've been

I mean every on screen "canon" version we have of the Sith in all the trilogies attempt to chimp out and betray each other at multiple points, even in the OP there's two darths running around and they try to kill each other, Malak backstabbed Revan, etc. They're just written to be that way in the main series, and couple that with the fact that you're kind of pidgeonholed having to write an origin story around a throwaway line from the Phantom Menace about why there's only two sith.

but to answer your question "officially" there's two, but in reality there's more - either rogue dark jedi or actually a secret apprentice as a "plan B" .

if this at all has piqued your interest go buy/torrent the audible version of the first in the series (there's 3 and you'll know if you'll like #2 and #3 once Bane gets to the Academy). And #2 has, without spoilers, the best lightsaber action setpiece I've ever read. Drew Karpshyn does a really phenomenal job at battle scenes, and that final one at the end of Book 2 is a masterclass on how to write a compelling "and then a bunch of people fought at once in a chaotic brawl" scenes.

If you're lurking a thread dedicated to KOTOR2 it's worth listening to. Since Darth Bane is the protagonist there's actually some surprisingly dark moments for a Star Wars piece of media in it.

SWTOR, for all its faults, introduces the most complex portrayal of the Sith as a philosophy and a society. Sure, you have your Palpatines, Vaders, and outright retards. Then you have the noble demons you can play as or meet. Battle dialogue about how he can't ever forgive the Jedi for what they've done. How, if you convinced some Sith to betray him, his brethren could stoop so low. Confusion as to who some apprentices he can barely remember not being there to help him. Stuff like that.
