For gaming, do you use open-backed headphones, closed-back headphones, or a wireless headset with mic?
You know headsets sound like shit, right?

I got into audio just before COVID hit, now 6-7 years later I've learned a couple of things. I despise these neutral, analytical, dead, cold headphones like the Sennheiser 6xx series for my entertainment.

When I'm playing games with my headphones or watching movies (I rarely do that), I want those explosions to go BOOM. I wanna feel that bass. That doesn't mean that I want my ears blown off by the bass like those old Monster Dre Beats, but I want it to be tight and impactful. I want my headphones to have a large soundstage for more immersion. I want my headphones to have some fucking life, man. And those "audiophile" headphones just don't give me that.

I always, always recommend against buying headphones like the Sennheiser 6xx series to play games and watch movies. If you only play competitive video games where you don't want any of that life and just need something very precise to hear things like foodsteps, sure, but otherwise no.
>>
>>729579408
I use IEMs and if I need voice, I have a dedicated mic. I have a pair of studio on-ear headphones that I really like to use when playing rhythm games, but they warm up my ears a bit too much after prolonged use.

>>729582076
Audio is important, to me at least, but I also recognized that after a certain price point with each audio gear, diminishing returns start to hit hard. If you've been used to a $300 audiophile headphone, you won't be blown away by something that costs $2000. I'm not one of those freaks that spend thousands of dollars on audio.

Open back for me, I usually use an EQ'd picrel. I have IEMs too but I dislike using them for long periods so I only really use them on the go.
>>729581270
Just EQ it nigger. All open back Sennheisers have deficient bass. Use a low shelf filter and that's it. I'd argue HD600 are probably some of the best value for money HPs that you can buy. The average audiophool believes that using EQ is le bad and you should be using gold plated cables or some shit but the average audiophool is retarded.
>>
whats an open back headphone do?
>>
>>729581270
Ok, so what do you recommend then?
>>
>>729582715
The driver isn't covered so it doesn't block any outside noise unlike a regular closed back headphone. Since there's no backplate there's usually less reflections so you end up with less distortion and you get a sensation that the sound is more "open" kind of like you're listening to speakers.
>>
>>729582265
>I also recognized that after a certain price point with each audio gear
Oh hey, I've been going down this shithole known as audiophile garbage too, and one of the most important lessons I've learned is that mid range stuff is always the best.
The only people who squeeze the full juice out of those thousand dollar headphones are audio engineers.
>>
If I don't want others to hear it I use headphones
If I'm alone I use speakers

660s2 is just a shittier 600, don't bother. 800s is good if you're not bothered by the treble or can EQ. No clamping force with that model so can easily fall off your head, though. Sound is good.

>>729592604
Even the most leaking open backs like Stax or Hifiman don't cause enough sound leakage to be nearly as loud as speakers are. The drivers are next to your ear, they won't get loud enough for anyone outside of say, the room you're in, to hear. Open backs will only be an issue if there's someone in the same room as you and even if they are, they won't hear much unless they're right next to you.
t. uses open backs for playing eroge

HD6XX are less than $200 on sale and will last you 10+ years. There are people that spend more on Razer wireless slop or Sony XM6 and other dogshit. Good wired headphones are an investment, because in 20 years they will stay good. Sennheiser made the HD600s in 1997, Beyerdynamic made the Dt990 in 1981. Unlike PCs, an audio setup is not going to be obsolete because music doesn't grow more demanding. If the prices are too high, you can even get them second hand and then just replace the pads or cable as they wear down.

The only bad investments are anything bluetooth, because within a year or two their battery shits the bed and it's either tech support(That'll be 100 dollars plus tax please!) or the landfill.
Never pay more than a 100 bucks for anything bluetooth.
>>

>>
This isn't directly video game related but it fucking infuriates me how many phone companies phased out the headphone jack.

>>

But anon, look, the phone is... slimmer.

In all seriousness, it's a tragedy, and now public transport had to suffer its consequences. I will also take this chance to shamelessly shill Fiio's BTR models that you can connect through bluetooth to your phone and use your wired headphones with less clutter. They're very fucking nice.
>B-But audio falls down in quality in bluetooth
For the use case of wearing wired IEMs in public or such, I seriously doubt you'll notice the difference.

"Comfort" means something different from person to person. I saw a review of one of Sony's TWShit buds a while ago that described them as "very comfortable", and when I got to try them myself, they were anything but.
This might not be the most useful answer, but the only way you'll find out which headphones are comfortable, is by trying them on.
>>
>>729601351
Jewish design choices. No more jack -> more people buy le wireless -> wireless shit dies because battery -> more money so you buy new wireless shit.

Literally anywhere that will let you put them on your head before paying for them, or that will let you get a refund after buying them and trying them.

I barely go outside so I don't know what stores normally let you do that. I'd rather go in person so I don't have to waste time/money on shipping stuff back and forth.

I absolutely refuse to buy a phone that doesn't have a 3.5mm jack. My current phone has one and once this one starts failing, my next phone will also have one. Apple can go suck a cock for normalizing removing basic ports from electronic devices.

I use speakers because I'm not a cuck that needs to lower his volume to hide from the bull.

Super comfy for listening to Radio New Vegas.
I've tried a fair bunch of headphones pairs but, between these and the S08s, nothing else comes close to scratching that comfy audiophile itch I have

This nigga's right. I didn't think much of it until I got some really comfortable headphones and now I have trouble going back. People that just accept that they should deal with a design flaw by wearing it in are the real losers that can't afford better things.

i live alone so i just use speakers

what songs do you use to test your shit? strangely I've found fucking burger dog to be notably good for testing my iem's and my DAC.

this high bpm song to know the drivers can actually handle it: https://youtu.be/isXoiYfoDd8
and then usually my favorite song at the time since i know what it should sound like. sometimes i throw in a bass heavy song too.
also unless your dac specifically colors the audio i don't think you need to test it

The bass drop here is so severe that you can easily pick up when the headphones distort. This is how I found out my EQ for my Stax had too big of a bass shelf.

Depends on the brand, but as a general rule anything with a wide headband (like the airpods max or pic related) will always be more comfy.

Anyone with a strap. Then add aftermarket pads.

these with EQ are based, I never went back to my favorite headphones after using these
