Why does /v/ hate these things??
>>
>heavy
>low res
>emits an annoying sound just by being on
>>
>>729611186
I'm playing Max Payne on a CRT right now (original xbox version, 480p CRT)
>>
>>729611186
who the fuck ever said they hated crt's on /v/? the only problem are the people acting like they are some kind of gold mine and put *SUPER RETRO GAYMIN TV* $600 BYO
>>
>>729611186
Outdated trash. Only zoomers praise these things because they never used them and read an article about persistence blur without truly understanding how perception works.
>>
>>729611339
>contrast sucks ass, will only get worse the longer you use then
>usually only has analog inputs, meaning blurry image
>have to manually position the image on the screen
>need to degauss the screen on occasion
>only to achieve same input latency as modern day displays
Just run your games with BFI on a decent modern display that has a low image retention rate.
>>
>>729611186
I don't hate them. They were what I stared at throughout my childhood.
They're just completely obsolete now compared to today's TVs and has been the day flat HD TVs went from being luxury to "any schmuck can afford one".
>>
>>729611186
It's called gaslighting. Now give me that garbage for free since no one wants it.
>>
>>729611186
Because /v/ hates everything except hating things.
>>
>>729611186
Pretty weird since they are the best way to watch any DVD or play older games (PS2 and before)

a 21-30 inch CRT is way better for the old content than an 55-65 inch OLED tv with whatever stupid upscaler you are trying to use
>>
>>729611186
because the people who like them are retarded and obnoxious
>>
>>729611186
I love smashing them, theres like a vacuum inside and they implode when the glass screen shatters. Its very fun, especially throwing them off high ledges or swinging a sledgehammer at them
>>
>>729611186
Only the people who haven't used a CRT for retro gaming hate CRTs
>>
>>729611339
>heavy
dyel
>low res
perfect for low-res games
>15khz sound
deal with it, you tune it out before you know it. I find it funny how zoomers complain about this when it was something everyone heard from their TVs for decades.
Also for the record, only standard definition CRTs make that sound. HDCRTs and PC monitors don't.
>>
>>729611186
We don't. It's mostly just Sharty because you can't have nice things with zoomers around.

a PVM is a type of CRT, it stands for professional video monitor (technically it only refers to Sony's line of monitors branded PVM, but people often use the term to refer to pro monitors from other brands like panasonic, ikegami, jvc, etc too)

They're built to a higher standard, most have higher end inputs like RGB, better service menu options, are calibrated to have better geometry, more accurate color, and the "TV line" count is higher, which basically means more phosphors and a sharper image.

Left is a consumer 32" trinitron, right is a 20" PVM

>>729616087
It's not interlaced, the 'ghosting' your seeing on sanic's finger is just the way it's animated. Zoom in, the scanlines aren't alternating.

Meleefags made CRTs uncool
>>
>>729611186
Because people passionate about their hobbies like them, and /v/ taught me that having passion is actually deranged and cringe and probably makes you gay too.
>>
>>729615612

Based. Yeah, I did an AM2R playthrough on it. I also watch a bunch of old 90's 4:3 anime torrents on it and dvds. Too bad there aren't very many good dvdrips on the net anymore. I had to actually buy a bunch of dvds. Anything animated in particular looks just great on them.

>>729615779

They're both crts. pvms were used in professional settings. They use better components but they have a different look to them than crt tvs due to different scanlines. Most have burn in at this point from being turned on for 80,000 hours and are prohibitively expensive and rare now. They're overrated as fuck anyways and most retro looks sterile and weird on them, don't bother. Complete meme
>>
>>729616087

It's not but okay
>>
>>729611186
Only people who hate on CRTs are people who are asshurt they missed out on the really good pro/broadcast models when they were dirt fucking cheap, and zoomers who literally don't know any better about their objective advantages for old media as well as the couple things they are still superior at to this day.
>>
>>729615612
Sonic Robo Blast 2 supports 240p and 4:3. I enjoyed playing it on my similar setup.
>>
>>729616273
there's really no reason for your consumer CRT on the left to be calibrated incorrectly like that. PVMs do look better but you could get that consumer CRT a lot closer. Just turning down the brightness looks like it would make a big difference.
>>
just walk into a hospital and give the colonoscopy doctor a firm handshake and he'll let you have a medical monitor pvm for free provided you can carry 30kg

unironically how I got mine back in 2014. My grad school was associated with the hospital there, so I just went across the street and asked IT if they still had any old endoscopy monitors collecting dust somewhere.

I think what rubs people the wrong way is how buying one can cost hundreds of dollars when they used to be e-waste laying on the roadside, they're not worth that price but you might not have any alternative. I have two since I kept the one I bought as a kid and I actually did find one on the roadside years back, if they ever die on me it becomes a pretty hard question whether or not I want to replace them or just fully emulate.

Who could hate them? I got a little 19” TV/VCR Sanyo from a bank that was getting rid of old equipment, and use it for PS2 and Gamecube gaming. The VCR still works, too. Watched the squashed “full screen” version of Fellowship of the Ring on it recently.

The only hate they get is from retards trying to resell TVs for insane markup as “gaming TVs”.

The problem is that all that ewaste wasn't kept in the United States for recycling. Goodwill and all those companies just took all those TVs and sold them to third world countries where they were sold to Indians and Chinese people.

>>
>>729619335
the ship has sailed on cheap accessible PVMemes long ago, but there should still be plenty of boomers out there begging for someone to come haul away the old tube TV they have in the basement or back bedroom and never bothered to get rid of

>>
>>729620662
I'm not sure, I actually spent some time watching stuff like facebook marketplace for free tvs in my area and never saw one. This used to be the way to do it, but even that's drying up as far as I can tell. Then I found one a few months ago just laying in someone's yard as I drove by, so I really don't know what to say.
>>
>>729611186
i had a decent childhood and a successful adulthood. I don't need nostalgia to make myself feel better. CRT's served a purpose and were excellent and what they did in the time their time. Now, we have better TVs with better resolutions and better input lag and better everything.
So, i don't hate them, but i don't care about them anymore. what i do are fat nostalgia fags who cant let go of their past and their childhoods because as adults, they're utter failures

Older flat panels from 10+ years ago had shit colors/blacks/ghosting/etc so you had good reasons to still use a CRT, but these days a decent modern flat panel is perfectly fine unless you're extremely autistic
