I just finished Might and Magic 8 (also 6 & 7). What a great trilogy of games. I really loved these games and it leaves a hole in my heart that there is nothing else quite like these games and probably never will be.
Yeah, it's a shame there aren't other games like Might and Magic 6,7, and 8 out there.

there have been a bunch of solo dev attempts to recreate the genre but it's not really a small-team kind of genre, they've all been pretty bad

When you get strong enough it practically turns into a Musou game, with all the different dopamine hit you get from slaughtering a horde of enemies in real-time. Plus you don't spend an eternity fighting pissweak enemies like in, say, Wizardry 8.
Bit of a left field suggestion, but Dragon's Dogma was the game that most strongly reminded me of the feeling of playing these games.

I find MM678 to have such a beautiful artstyle that draws my attention unlike most games nowadays that just look so visually bland. These games also have a ton of heart and soul. You can tell that the devs for MM6 had a ton of fun making this game and it shows. It's just a series you either get or you don't. I personally can't get over how much I love these games. It's been a fun month playing through some of these games
