I hate how most people have no taste and prefer widescreen to 4:3 even in games without proper hud scaling
>>
>>729618824

unfortunately
>>
>>729616838
I miss good ww2 single player campaigns.
Sigh, it's time to replay cod2 again
>>
>>729618956
It's not even about autism, just looking at something and immediately being able to tell that it looks wrong.
Guess I could have used the 16:9 aspect ratio for my hudless screens.
Comfy CoD thread by the way. CoD 1, UO, 2, Medal of Honor Allied Assault and RTCW are still the best WW2 shooters, far above anything that came after. I marathon these every year.
>>
>>729619410
well yeah and that is because of the sound more than the graphics. Amazing how one of the core aspects of a video game experience was diluted in the current age.
>>
>>729619410
idtech 3 is such a good engine
also in retrospect, playing as a rank-and-file grunt was so much better than tactikool operators with mohawks and funky gear
when I hear heroic phrases like "Call of Duty", "Brothers in Arms", "Medal of Honor", I'm not thinking about zombies, faze clan, weapon skins, snoop dogg, nicki minaj or beavis and butthead but stories about actual regular joes going to a war way bigger than them
thank god two of these three franchises died before this happened to them

This was quite an unique take, to really try to adapt to the limit the cinematic drama of Saving Private Ryan and mostly Band of Brothers. The gunplay was weak but served the tactical flanking aspect well, more focus on teamwork and forcing the enemy to be fully exposed rather than precise shooting

Was replaying MOH:RS on an emulator and holy crap that game sucks.
>>
>>729619502
Absolutely. You can slap all the RTX and 4K textures you want on a game, but none of it means jack if the guns sound like Nerf blasters or the explosions don’t rumble through your spine. CoD1 and 2 had such guttural, raw sound design-every ping, crack, and echo made you feel like you were actually in some poor bastard’s boots getting shelled in a foxhole. Now it’s all overly compressed Hollywood booms and sci-fi pews. Bring back the days when a Kar98k bolt cycling was scarier than a jump scare.

I still have the COD 1 and 2 demos burned into my brain from when I was a kid cause I played them so much

Just about every old game has some kind of easy widescreen fix you can get online, and you can go to your gpu control panel and force antialiasing, boom, you make it look like how you remember it looking like back in 2003. Putting lipstick on a pig, so to speak

the specific memory that just came rushing back was

>DAMN! KRAUTS MUST'VE MOVED EM
and missions in trenches like that where there's enemies with StG 44s or the 'damn that's cool' FG42, or even flamethrowers in UO iirc, but they die above the trench and drop their guns juuuuuust out of reach for you to pick up and play with
>>
>>729629748
>about every old game has some kind of easy widescreen fix
Indeed. CoD1 can get you any resolution and aspect ratio with a simple ini edit too.
However it does not have a fix that corrects the hud stretching in widescreen.
Might get one soon tho: https://github.com/ThirteenAG/WidescreenFixesPack/discussions/1058
Till then I'll stick to 4:3.
The 7th gen re-release for consoles actually has it supported natively but I can't be bothered to use rpcs3.

It's actually kind of weird to me that no one has even tried to recapture the 'grunt in the big picture' feel of the original CoDs and similar era games. I know, they had fucking huge budgets and historical basis to pull off of and direct Hollywood inspiration (or even assistance), but "you are Private Shmuckatelli, here is your rifle, don't die too fast now" seems like such a simple thing and there's gotta be at least one hipster who's tired of gung-ho player jack-off fests. Right?

yeah you and the 15 other people, the rest of us are talking about the single player which is what the games were clearly designed around
>>
>>729630542
UO campaign wasn't as good because of infinite spawn points gor enemies until you pushed to a certain location. In some places especially in soviet campaign it was egregious. Best COD mission is the vilage with silo, I loved how you decieded the order of which buildings to attack and the AI would respond
>>
>>729631131
>why does id tech always attract this kind of autism?
UO simply was a downgrade and offered nothing but out of place textures and models.
>yeah you and the 15 other people
vCoD has an active community playing it to this day. Nobody played UO because it was trash.
