What the fuck happened to Prime 4?
>>729631053Millenials happened.
>343 devs killed Halo, felt that wasn't enough, and then went for MetroidI think the greatest insult you could ask for isn't "I hope your franchise is made for a modern audience" but "I hope your franchise gets handled by 343"
78 or 80 out of 100 is a perfectly fair score for Prime 4What I'm wondering is how the fuck Other M is above 60, much less 79
paint
>>729631517>Prime 1-3 are all 90+>Prime 4 is ranked under the worst game in the series>"That's perfectly fine"
too high
>>729631053Whedonization.
78 seems generous>t. 16:09, 96% Scan, 100% Items, 100% Crack RocksGenuinely one of the most empty games I've ever played, and by empty I don't mean literally. I mean it feels like nobody wanted to make the game, and it's reflected in how low effort/generic every element that comprises the game is.Feels like the devs were just painting by numbers. It lacks all personality and creative direction.>Not up to the Nintendo standard>Nintendo standards>mfw
If you play the first Prime nowadays, you quickly realise that it doesn't deserve over 80 either.
>>729632059Prime Remastered got 90+ from critics and users, so you're wrong.
>watch the nerrel review >"the game is shit with no redeeming features" >"well sometimes the graphics are nice">7/10
>>729631053Millenicucks took over. They arent as godawful as boomers but fuck me are they the epitome of the bald, glasses wearing, pube beard, le quirky manchild that you would love to use as a punching bag.
>>729631053Nothing, the idea that Other fucking M is better than Beyond is laughable, the same retarded-ass website says Hunters is better, aggregators are worthless.
>>729631663I didn't say it was fine, I said it was 'fair'. It's the worst Prime and that's disappointing, I'm just saying 78 is a fair score for it.I just don't understand how the worst game in the series has a score that high because Other M is definitely not a 79/100 game, it's like 60 at best.
>>729632321He liked the parts where you're A) not in the desert and B) not having to interact with the FedsAs aggravating and worthy of criticism as those parts are, there is still a lot of Prime 4 wherein you don't have to deal with either.
>>729631173>funeral music starts playing
>>729632059Die and be dead
>>729632321He did say it's logically it's a 6.
I like 4, the backtracking through colored doors is my least favorite part of metroidvaniasI get why other people don't like it but it's obviously better than 3, like on a visceral level
>>729631053Tanabe is destroying this series, same as paper mario
>>729631517>78 or 80 out of 100 is a perfectly fair score for Prime 480 is 50/100 you retard
you know it's bad when tendies say i-it's not that bad i-ts's a 8/10
>>729631053i played the game for 20 minutes and dropped it. kinda depressing.
>>729631053Yikes without Nintendo bonus and that's a 58 at best.
>>729636245>I have ADHDweird flex
>>729631053The prime series was never good, especially the first one
Is this the most disappointing Nintendo game of all time?
>>729631053>get recommended a metroid prime 4 review on youtube>think it looks like another garbage halo killer from 2007>look it up>it was released less than 4 weeks agoHow does this even happen?
>>729636414star fox zero was one of the first games to tank platinum's reputation and not just nintendo's
>>729632059I just replayed it and the game is still great. The first several bosses are kinda mediocre but Omega Pirate, Meta Ridley, and Metroid Prime are good and fighting Space Pirates is fun with the research lab and Phazon Mines having fun encounters. It’s not as good as prime 2 but both are very close, and both are way better than Prime 3 which still isn’t really a bad game, and Prime 4 which is worse than 3. Prime 1 and 2 are both well placed in the 90 range, 3 could be in the low 80s, and 4 is like 60.
>>729632059this, it's boring and outdated
>>729631053It misses the mark so badly that Nintendo had to issue a post-release statement about the game's development decisions.
>>729632107remastered is not the first prime
>>729631053>Retro dicking around with Project Harmony>Nintendo getting SEAfags to make the next game in their series that's only popular in burgerland>SEAfags butchering it>Nintendo forcing Retro to salvage it>Jak 3 desert being too far developed to scrap>Retro not knowing how to make anything of value anymore, necessitating outsourcingIt's a fucking mess
>>729636414Brawl
>>729631053Other M makes a way better first impression, you don't realize how shit the game truly is until at least 2 hours in. Reviewers don't usually play more than 2 hours of a game so Other M got inflated scores. Prime 4 got the scores it deserves.
>>729636414nah, that's Super Paper Mario.
>>729631517>he thinks the points below 50 matterThose are reserved for games that are varying degrees of non-functional. Like the other guy said 7.8 is not 'just a little before average', it's shit.
>>729631053Threadly reminder about how journos score games:>10/10: flagship title from a major publisher; 10-point reviews are decided on years in advance of the game's release>9/10: call of duty and other unremarkable games they want to glaze>8/10: the reviewer considers the game to be merely okay>7/10: he hates it but it's from a major publisher so he can't be too harsh>6 and below: usually something approaching an actual video gameObligatory "prime 1 is good but doesn't deserve near as much praise as it gets"
>>729631053It's Prime 3.5.
>>729631053BOTW brain rot
>>729636546How much of the SF zero hate was due to the control scheme? Cause that's really all I can find people talking about other than that it's quite similar to 64, which is a sacred cow that even the journos who would probably bash it as "quarter munching NES hard dark souls" can't criticize
What the fuck game can you think of that had an interview come out like two weeks after release that basically has people admitting to the game being doomed from the start? They flat out said the busted ass version being made first was far enough along that Nintendo told us they scrapped it but actually told them to salvage it. Then they flat out said they didn't have the time or talent to hit the deadlone, so they had to outsource, which guarantees the game could never have a cohesive vision. Sprinkle in some retarded Tanabe decisions to focus on a narrative and the Federation when they hired the most braindead modern western writers. The irony is that I actually enjoy a lot of the gameplay when you're free to ignore the NPCs or the desert, but I enjoy it in the way that I enjoy middling indie Metroidvanias or ROMhacks where the inspiration is carrying most of the weight. It isn't a fucking Prime game. It's a game inspired by Prime and made by amateurs, and I am now totally confident that the piss poor marketing truly was Nintendo knowing it wasn't up to par and trying to put it in the rearview. I think Metroid is important enough in reputation and unique enough compared to other Nintendo IPs that it will continue despite its continued moderate sales numbers, but I truly have no idea if there's a future for Prime - or if it deserves one.
>>729631053It was 100% Nintendo's fault, recent interview revealed that the desert was planned by Nintendo from the get-go and Retro had to stick with it when they were handed the project.
>>729638364I'm sure a sequel to Dread is already in production.
>>729636203I find it funny that they shat on Silksong because "oh Prime will get a 95+ metacritic and blow your stupid bug game out of the water" and now they can't use that metric to console war. They might not even be able to use sales, since Silksong is doing pretty good.Well earned karma for years of console warring, to be honest.
>>72963105368*
>>729636414Skyward Sword, Sticker Star, and Other M exist. So no.
>>729637618>2 hours inYou realize it 15 minutes in after the first boss when the game tells you that it's removing all your powers until Adam says otherwise
>>729631053still feels unreal. like its some weird metroid game from another universe or something.
>>729631053it seems like retro are done for. the one thing they could possible be good for is assisting on pokemon games. quality doesn't matter for those anyway.
>>729638502Bug drip fr
>>729631053It's a good game and I hate seeing everyone shitting on it. It's not the best game of the last year but I liked it a lot more than E33. Prime 4 is good and I'm sick of people pretending it's not that great
>>729638996At that point you're just thinking "oh they didn't go with the "you got damaged and lost all your powers" thing this time". its easy to forget since its been fifteen fucking years of hearing people hate on other M, but the early impressions of the game were good. it takes a bit of time to realize how shallow and shitty the gameplay is, and the story even more so doesn't fall apart until a bit into the game
>>729631173>343 kills two of the best and most highly regarded immersive sims in all of gamingWhy did they do it?
>>72963151770 is an IGN 50 and that's not counting the Nintendo bonus.
>>729639394What exactly does it offer? You can't even say that people didn't play through it enough to justify the hate, since many complaints are about the later parts and endgame.
>>729632059Primehack is still a great action/adventure puzzle game, easily high 70s (real) to low 80s for me and I say that unironically and not in journo terms.
>>729632449Hunters would be better if it wasn't for the controls. Or if nothing else, it's a better handheld experience than Beyond is a console experience.
>>729632502Other M was made in the deepest pits of gamejourno corruption where a large number of sites would write their reviews before even playing the games at all, in order to race to be first to publish and get all of the clicks. Other M is in fact used as a classic example of this, where it becomes very obvious that people are just making a review based on things in the trailers rather than all of the bullshit that was in the actual game.
>>729636108This is the worst in Echoes when you walk through a light or dark door and realize you need to turn back
>>729636414No because big N has had bigger bombs, yes because this was Prime's big comeback and they made it as un-Metroid as they could for no good reason.
Hey can someone tell me why the dialogue in Fusion is bad but the constant start and stop in Prime games with endless amounts of fluff text are somehow not nearly as contentious despite taking up way the fuck more time and being several times more invasive?
>>729637762It does but only for its time and only among console games up to gen 6. >>729638389The desert didn't have to be empty and the dialogue didn't have to be insufferable.
>Samus sucks, no i will not elaborate
>>729632059this guy gets it, prime was never good, prime was never metroid
>>729632059What kind of argument is this? Game gets scores when it comes out. If you start retroactively reviewing games you could throw out pretty much everything that isn't "up-to-date" for modern audiences.>when you realize remasters and remakes essentially do thatHuh
>>729640098>>Samus sucks, no i will not elaborate
Metroid was never good. When compared to Mario and Zelda it's a woefully underwhelming franchise.
>>729632321Makes sense, he is a literal graphicsfag after all since he mainly makes texture packs for games.
>>729640410Mario has never been good.
>>729640410Zelda has never been good.
>>729638440God I hope not. Dread was way too anime.
>>729640575Metroid has always been anime
>>729640098What makes Dark Samus work is you know firsthand the power of the devastating poisonous energy she powers herself with as well as the reason she hates Samus, with this dude he's just some fucking guy. It's like Vader and Kylo, one is for real and his successor is just a boring edgelord.
