>ditch turn based for generic action slop
>forgotten shortly after release
>2 (two) turn based games win back-to-back goty

How humiliating
>>
What is this gen Z mindset that games need to be discussed 24/7?
>>
>>729637310
They grew up with games as a service shit/fortnite/gacha only so that's all they know
>>
>mainline FF
>only one character
Did they run out of money or some shit? Bet they could've had more characters if they didn't waste the budget on cutscenes.
>>
No controllable party members.
Fake party members they don't do actual damage to enemies.
Stuck with only one weapon.
Barely any RPG elements. New sword has higher numbers. Thats it.
No exploration with absolute dogshit level design.
No minigames.
No cities to visit. Sanbrsque capital cannot be entered and game shoves you into a shitty ugly mine instead.
Only two costumes for Clive.
Every enemy is a bullet sponge in this game and all strategy boils down to stagger and dump canned animations.
Basterdised DMC combat system where you only have three Eikon abilities available to you. The rest you have to assign to buttons on a menu.
Elemental weakness and resistences mean nothing in a game about elements eikons.
Terrible QTE fest Eikon battles that go on for way too long.
Absolute nonsensical game of thrones knock off story.
They made prostitutes boring. Game has brothel and its as boring as the rest of the shitty villages.

Worst FF.
>>
What's funny is that Sony paid for exclusivity.
>>
>>729637310
I don't know.
I still discuss DMC1.
>>
>>729637886
Lets be real, though Square Enix has said they will no longer do exclusivity that's no good if their games continue being trash.
>>
>>729637770
And the characters are awful. Not the worst main characters but still quite shoddy.
>>
>>729638626
I wonder if Sony is still willing to pay for exclusivity on FF17 despite nobody giving a shit about FF or any SE games anymore.

Trash game will forever stay trash

This is Square we're talking about. A game company that makes spectacular blunders only to make epic comebacks. Very likely that VII-3 and XVII will make a return to form.
>>
>>729639256
SE takes too fucking long to make their games, no wonder they're always out of touch. If they weren't so obsessed with filling the game with 20 hrs of cutscenes....
>>
>>729636989
It was pretty fun and the characters were cool

I gave this game a good shot but it was so bland I just dropped it shortly after the second time skip. Seemed completely pointless to continue when the writing was that fucking lazy.
>>
Game got hyped immensely after its reveal but the PS5 exclusivity killed it.
Not only because PS5 users don't really buy games - the game was in fact the best selling PS5 game when it got released - standing tow to tow with the likes of Spiderman 2 and GoW the other best selling PS5 franchises.
But making the game exclusive eroded the interest that other platform users had in the game. I personally know like 10+ people who wanted to play it but couldn't because they couldn't be arsed to get a PS5 for it - and by the time the game finally released on PC over half of those already moved on - the others went "hey you made me wait over a year for this so i might as well wait another one and get this on a large discount".
Day 1 sales are important and FF16 shows exactly why SE have no killed all future exclusivity deals with Sony.
>>
>>729637770
I'm playing through it at the moment, almost beating it (just got jill's eikon power). Everything you said is true. The game is good in the first 2 hours or so, until you beat benedikta. Then the problems start showing up. You should have mentioned the huge amount of boring side quests and slooooow dialogue.

The funniest part is that they've said at least a couple of times they would stop doing that lol. They probably learned their lesson this time.
>>
>>729640457
Yeah with the CEO himself talking about THE IMPORTANCE OF MULTI PLATFORM over and over again you can really tell how much the FF16 situation pissed them off.
>>
>>729637310
it's not gen Z, it's FF boomers being obsessed with FF needing to "return to its roots"
>>
>>729640197
To be fair there's only one timeskip, the prologue us a flashback. Completely different.
>>
>>729640491
The demos didn't help either. Since the game kinda sucked they had only one shot for big sales and that would've been by essentially scamming people with a multiplat release with no demo.
>>
>>729637770
>No controllable party members.
XIII-XV are all like this. XII tells the player to do this instead of managing everyone all the time
>Fake party members they don't do actual damage to enemies.
not true
>Stuck with only one weapon. Barely any RPG elements. New sword has higher numbers. Thats it.
same as most early games in the franchise
>No exploration with absolute dogshit level design.
every game in the franchise
>No minigames.
good
>No cities to visit. Sanbrsque capital cannot be entered and game shoves you into a shitty ugly mine instead.
>>tfw you only see 1% of Bevelle, Midgar, Vector, etc and it completely ruins le vibes of their games
>Only two costumes for Clive.
Shouldn't have any
>Every enemy is a bullet sponge in this game and all strategy boils down to stagger and dump canned animations.
Literal skill issue
>Basterdised DMC combat system where you only have three Eikon abilities available to you. The rest you have to assign to buttons on a menu.
So 9 skills?
>Elemental weakness and resistences mean nothing in a game about elements eikons.
color coding damage is a bad idea in every action game that does it
>Terrible QTE fest Eikon battles that go on for way too long.
>Absolute nonsensical game of thrones knock off story.
>They made prostitutes boring. Game has brothel and its as boring as the rest of the shitty villages.
subjective nitpicking
>>
>>729636989
>WAHHHHHHH MY TURN BASED
>check out older FF
>except X it all has ATB
>which the single most dogshit implementation of Turn Based ever made
You guys have no ground to stand on when it comes to gameplay criticism
>>
>>729640282
Considering the biggest market for it was for ff14 players who are predominantly PC players, making it ps5 exclusive was retarded. Plenty of conversations with people on ff14 that said they were interested in it because yoshi was behind it but weren't going to get a ps5 to play it. They also fucked up the collab by not having it at the same time as the release date.

It was a complete mess and whoever signed on the ps5 exclusivity deal should be fired
>>
If the game would have launched on PC as well the sales would have been a whole lot better but that obviously wouldn't have fixed any of the core issues the game has.

1) The setup for the story is great - one of the best in FF overall if not the best - but the story kinda drops pretty hard with the timeskip - the pacing is just kinda all over the place and the intriguing betrayal plot isn't going into an interesting direction.
>oh yeah - we have to destroy the crystals
That alone tells you how this game is gonna go - moving from one big set piece to the next until you get that big final conclusion. It makes the thing predictable and therefore boring.

2) The boss fights are the highlights but that's mostly presentation. The combat itself is taking a few notes from the likes of DMC but the same problem apllies here - most of the stuff you get in form of abilities just adds more - presentation - atleast with the way enemies behave combat tends to go extremely "samey" - and bosses and semi-bosses can tank quite a bit especially on higher difficulty. If you want to be DMC atleast make the enemies just as dynamic as DMC enemes.

3) Side quests were fine but the integration felt kinda sloppy. Games like Yakuza can get away with the player sidetracking a bunch cause you can always just do the side content later. Here meanwhile everything is timegated due to story progress so you better do everything you can before moving on with the main story but there is so much time consuming side stuff that it fucks up the already messy pacing even further.
>oh yeah this was really fucked up - time to spend another 2 hours helping the locals to get a better understanding of everything and just how exactly things are fucked up.
>>
This game was ass but the QTE on rails summon fights were the greatest things ever despite how easy and press x to do awesome they were
>>
Gameplay means nothing if you tell a good story
>>
>>729640935
If it was sold as multiplatform it wouldn't have been such much of a failure sales wise at least
>>
>>729640741
You are a retarded Yoshit golem. The nonsensical vomit you spewed shows that your stomach is full of YoshitPiss.
>>
>>729636989
FF hasn't been turn-based after FF10 and the last turn-based FF before that was FF4.
>>
>>729640935
>The setup for the story is great
The setup is shit.
>>
>>729639409
I can agree with that. Back in PSX era the company had a 2 year limit on development time and yet the era is fondly remembered despite how unfinished and flawed those games were. Turns out graphical fidelity and voice acting, while nice additions, are ultimately a gimmick.
>>
Good that FFX gets mentioned because that was the last time FF in general was truly relevant as a franchise. Everything after that was just MMO people hyping up FFXIV and its story and thats about it.

FF12? Everyone knows that game underperformed hard - it has a very dedicated and loyal fanbase in form of the Ivalicetards but thats about it.

FF13? Did very well initially but that mostly because everyone was starved for another big hit like FFX - they advertised it going "REMEMBER HOW FFX WAS THE BEST LOOKING PS2 GAME? THIS HERE IS GONNA BE THE BEST LOOKING GAME EVER"
And that was basically all the game was. A very pretty corridor "RPG" with barely anything else. Sold well atleast so they made a sequel but that sequel bombed hard cause no one really gave a shit. And LR was just them pushing out a third game cause they had nothing else for that quarter due to FFXIV burning at the time.

And then you have FF15 with its extremely troubled development history. Didn't do well either at the end - DLC plans got cancelled which is a new low for the franchise. The thing selling like +15 million copies way later due to 5-10 dollar deals at Target doesn't change that.
>>
>>729641129
And the company pays for that mistake to this day.
>>
>>729641129
It hasn't been good since 10 either. Interesting
>>
>>729637310
first post bait post

Clive is a pathetic evil piece of shit.
