Playing a mage is fucking fun as every spell is unique and you can wield a spelltrigger pistol in one hand and a grimoire in the other. Dialogue is like every post-Avellone Obsidian game, stilted and quick to relieve any tension they might build. Lore and worldbuilding is amazing like always. Magic items are everywhere, not open world and exploration is rewarding. The game is at odds with itself trying hard not to stand out, but combat and world shines. Not worth 80 smackaroos though, get on sale, could really benefitted from a demo to let people try the combat.

Tainted Grail is ok. It feels like some weird mix of Dark Souls lore and Skyrim combat. There are always some cool places to find and hidden usable loot. Quests can have sometimes hidden outcomes if you do more than just follow objective markers. The main quest writing is passable but the rest is kinda whatever and most of the dialogue is plain boring. Combat is dull and easy too, I have used magic and even though there are 40 spells only like 2 are usable.

I am gonna say it:Avowed and Outer Worlds 2 are both underrated and actually pretty fun. Avowed has good combat and it is fun to explore, it just has a meh story which is a knock against it but the game is still fun. Outer Worlds 2 is also just a fun space RPG. They did seriously listen to feedback from the first game and your build matters way more. You can't just chug a beer and change your pants to pass any charisma check.I recommend pirating both games or leeching off of someone's xbox gamepass or something. If you can get them for like ~$30 I think that is fair price, though I think Outer Worlds 2 is gonna have some DLC, so maybe wait for that.

Some magic could be fun, like the summoning multiple thunderbolts. But then the enemies just step away from it. There is also cool stuff like tornado stuck in those soulcubes which are totally useless. There are also not enough euipment slots for magic. If you use wands then you can only use 4 spells. I don't even have space for all those healing spells and magic shields.
