What happened to it? Where did it go?
>>729642690You called?
it got perfected with nu-hitman and everyone else stopped trying
>>729642690Stealth genre is lame nowadays especially if you have choices. In AC Valhalla or Shadows I don't use stealth mechanics. I go to the central door and I kill all the ennemies and the alarm is activated
You stopped playing stealth games. Intravenous 2.
>>729643370is that stealth i was told it's like hotline miami
>>729642690Still hate what they did to this series...
>>729643436It's stealth and action
>>729643574neat i will buy it
>>729642690The genre got too stealthy we can't find the games
>>729643190No real high hopes for this. I haven't see if they've posted gameplay or anything yet, but Shards of Darkness was just way too easy compared to Master of Shadows already, and it sounds like they're being a bit fanservicey with the return to Akenash. The lack of co-op is also a bit cringe, especially because of their reasoning for it>we axed it to fully concentrate on level design, pacing, and stealth systems built specifically for single playerYeah, do that but then add in co-op anyways. Nobody does it on their first playthrough, and subsequent playthroughs already devolve into a lot of silliness anyways, so just add it in to where there's too many goblins for how the game's designed, who gives a shit. I really hate this modern sentiment that it has to be something you put a lot of work into to make it "work."
knowers know it's still doing alright in the indie/mod scene
>>729644319damn.
>>729643229This is true. I tried replaying Spliter Cell: CT and MGS 3, and they suck compared to nu-hitman. They aren't bad, but Hitman is just so much more fun and engaging
>>729642690God I miss Tenchu.
>>729643450The one for 360? Tenchu z was it? I haven't tried it and I'm not getting it. I own tenchu 1 and 2 and return from darkness for xbox. I have been debating if I should get the one that's ps2 exclusive tho. Good?
It went nowhere. Minus thief, most popular stealth games were stealth action games like metal gear and tenchu. People just moved on to actual action games.
>>729642690>I MUST CONSOOM THE LATEST AAA SLOPsounds like a (You) issue to me
>>729645365I really wish thief 1 had a coop mod like 2. Me and my buddy play fms together but so many newer gems are made for thief gold now
>>729645271I still think there's plenty of room in the industry for stealth-action games. Just something that allows you to be a bit more deliberate and nuanced with your actions and the way you approach encounters.
>>729645452>coopsounds fun but doesn't that make the FMs way too easy?
>>729645091Tenchu 4It killed the game
>>729645663Oh snap. That's the one for ps2 right? Well I won't be getting that one then I suppose. What's so bad about it? I was sure you meant tenchu z which is semi open world or something like that,
>>729645818Actually, for psp and wii.The ps2 ones were tenchu 3 wrath of heaven and tenchu fatal shadows. Both are good
>>729645091Tenchu Z was my favorite one.
>>729643436Imagine if Hotline Miami was changed from a high adrenaline twitch shooter, to a slower-paced stealth action where you're highly encouraged to sneak about, take out lights, try to not make too much noise and eliminate the map with strategy instead of pure rush downs. Because you CAN go Rambo, but you will get overwhelmed if it isn't hit and run, and enemies actually can react to things instead of being walking turrets. Meanwhile every mission gets you more funds to put towards better equipment next mission, and you're encouraged to carefully manage a loadout for weight and utility both since big guns will make you even move louder, while keeping lightweight is less deadly but leaves room for improvisation and OSP.Honestly it's really more Hitman meets Splinter Cell with tons of gun autism, but if your objectives are generally "kill everybody". And that level of autism has been in the dev for a long time, he's the one that made Customizable/Chuck's Weaponry 2.0 on Gmod.
>>729646023>Tenchu Z was my favorite one.I wouldn't rate Tenchu Z as being better than Tenchu 1/2/3/Fatal Shadows, but Z is easily my most played Tenchu. It's just pure gameplay and co-op kino.I need to check if it emulates better yet.
>>729645452>I really wish thief 1 had a coop mod like 2.......wait, what, there's a co-op mod for Thief 2?
>>729646206>>729646023Tenchu Z's chara creator looks horrible
>>729642690It didn't go anywhere. It was always an obscure genre. you have (excluding DOGSHIT like splinter cell:conviction - not a stealth game)>hitman (5 games excluding codename:47)>dishonored (2 games)>thief (3 games)>splinter cell (4 games)>metal gear solid (2 games count for me personally, let's say 5 games so the autists won't have a meltie)>nu-deus ex (2 games)>mark of the ninja (1 game)>tenchu (let's say 4 games)>I'm excluding stuff like death to spies, styx or shadow tactics - either too much of a mix with a strategy game, niche or just plain shitso around 25-30 games in the span of so many years. it's normal for stealth games to come out very rarely.thankfully most of them are top quality when they do come out because the devs have to overcompensate in this market.
>>729646206>I need to check if it emulates better yet.what do you think you were looking at
>>729646268Tenchu games aren't really lookers, and the character customization is generally going to have you cover up your character with later equipment most of the time anyway. You're a gutted hybrid of Rikimaru and Ayame more than you're a truly independent or unique entity. There's a reason I put my kunoichi with a fox mask all those years ago.Fuck, I can never get Xenia working with the thing without broken visuals.
>>729646268>Tenchu Z's chara creator looks horribleIt's alright, certainly nothing special, and pretty limited until you unlock more customisation options. >>729646283>what do you think you were looking atGiven it was sub 360 resolution, I wasn't sure. I know it's been emulatable for a while, but it had some real fucky issues last I checked it out.
>>729645818>What's so bad about it?Went away from your traditional tenchu gameplay and went more linear. It also uses the wii mote gimmick in fights, that they turned into first person fights
>>729644464I'm worried it will be too easy as well. The trailer literally has Styx just stop time and run past everyone. Take me back to the limited invisibility of the first game. Also to the sheer number of guards per level that the first game had. I loved that shit.
>>729645818They probably mean Shadow Assassins. It's more of a literal puzzle game rather than an actual Tenchu title. You have a sword on you and get spotted? You can ward them off, but if you get spotted again you die nigh-instantly. Everything is just avoid sightlines until you can kill a dude, but the actual design of the rest of the series was gone, and if you're playing the Wii version it's waggle gimmicks to boot. It may as well be a different series but with Tenchu awkwardly stapled on as the IP. The PSP version made it a bit less retarded on balancing, but then you're playing a PSP version of a Wii game that already wasn't really good to begin with. There's a reason why short of a shitty Xbox Live Arcade spinoff, the Tenchu series died after Shadow Assassins bombed horribly. And Sekiro originally being planned to be a revival fucked off in its own direction.
>>729645636It does but thief is already easy. It's very fun to experience a lot of these missions with a friend and the coop interactions work better than you'd think.>>729646231Yeah, I think it's just a port of the ss2 coop mod and has been around for a decade. Its jank and hilarious so I don't recommend it be anyone's first thief experience but very fun. https://youtu.be/xhVmNMd0Xbc?si=zEvug7hfHZ67fKdt
>>729646409>Take me back to the limited invisibility of the first game.I'm more worried about the overall design, because the problem with Shards of Darkness is that it was so easy to sneak around that I completed multiple levels without using ANY of the powers by pure happenstance. Not even the clones and such. Completely unthinkable compared to Master of Shadows>the sheer number of guards that the first game hadThat, and the tighter focus on individual level segments. Like there were some bigger sections in Akenash, but even they they were partially directed with each area's end goal and the rough idea of paths through it, so the game developers knew roughly where players would want to go and then placed a ton of enemies in the right spots to keep them on their toes. That's why I can't help but feel apprehension towards Blades of Greed advertising "metroidvania-esque design in larger open spaces," because I can't help but feel that that on a smaller scale was already why Shards of Darkness was so easy to blitz through.
I've been feeling like playing stealth games recently too, I've been playing KCD2 and just did the mission where I need to sneak around in a castle and I've been getting a kick out of stabbing sleeping bandits and lockpicking and it makes me miss this kinda games, though granted I've never played stuff like Thief or Styx, mostly MGS, Tenchu, or Dishonored (I should finish 2's Emily's route and do Corvo's one day) I've been considering playing Hitman World of Assassination but I've played the demo a few times and I felt like I'm not cut out for it, even if I can clear a mission I don't feel it was a smooth execution>>729643370I bought IV2 and the IV1 remaster dlc and it was cool but IV2's last mission really pissed me off and I didn't get to complete it
>>729645452My absolute man. You too know the torture that is having Black Parade be on Thief 1 instead of Thief 2, for this exact reason.
>>729646586>Yeah, I think it's just a port of the ss2 coop mod and has been around for a decade. Its jank and hilarious so I don't recommend it be anyone's first thief experience but very fun.Damn that's cool, I had no idea how this slipped under my radar, gonna have to rope a few mates into trying it out.
>>729646717100% check out Thief man, if it clicks, you're going to have a literal lifetime of content to enjoy.
>>729646717>ThiefDefinitely try that, don't forget TFix for both games.
>>729646958>>729647057I see there's a Thief collection on Steam but the individual games have neat discounts, I assume I should ignore the modern Thief and grab Deadly Shadows, Gold and 2: Metal Age?
waiting 5 minutes countless times so guards can fuck off and be in the perfect position for a quiet takedown is not my idea of a good timeeven then one bugged detection can ruin hours of your slow work
>>729642690Killed by incorporation into other genres, like racing games.
>>729647135Deadly Shadows was a sequel made for Xbox in mind so it's a bit downgraded, but Sneaky Upgrade does give it some extra legs. Meanwhile if you ever want to mess around with a freebie, The Dark Mod is a standalone game using Doom 3's engine that is effectively more Thief with its own modding scene too.
>>729647135Yeah avoid the modern Thief. Thief Gold and Thief 2 Metal Age are a must, Deadly Shadows is good but not Thief 1/2 god tier, it needs a few mods to unfuck some of the problems it had due to being a console port, but it's certainly worth the few bucks they're asking for it.I mean you'll get more play time out of a single mission, or fan mission, then you will out of an entire COD campaign in some cases.
>>729646023Does Tenchu Z still have issues emulating with nvidia gpus?
Best villainBest quotesBest theme song
>>729647135>>729647532Oh also check out The Dark Mod, it's an awesome fan Thief game built in the Doom 3 engine, no need to own Doom 3 or anything though, it's completely standalone, bunch of great fan made missions for it (not nearly as many as Thief 1/2 though).https://www.thedarkmod.com/main/
>>729647796nop
>>729642690It got mostly turned into a gameplay segment in bigger games, similarly to platforming.
>>729647925Noooice. 50 missions of recycled goodness, here I come.
>>729648000clear_memory_page_state = trueuse_fuzzy_alpha_epsilon = trueand do vsync 120 or whatever to get 60fps, or use the patch
>>729643190Styx is SO fucking close to being great, but everything is just that little bit jank. It really goes to show just how polished you need everything to be in a stealth game. Slight AI hiccups, crappy ledge detection, iffy movement, bad level design etc......not such a big deal in a FPS or something, you might not even notice most of it, but in a stealth game even the smallest thing can totally fuck the entire experience.I've lost track of the number of times bodies have completely spazzed out and yeeted themselves across the map/through walls and fucked things due to buggy physics in Styx.
>>729643190>third styx gameNANII?
>>729647986Yeah Last of Us, GTA, Ghost of Tsushima etc. all have stealth as just part of the overall experience. So dedicated stealth is pretty dead. Its on indies to carry the torch now.
>>729642690It inherently doesn't appeal to your average player who can only stomach it in watered down form. Or as merely an option.
>>729648365Cheers, it's one of the few games I really miss from my 360. I still wish they'd port it to PC and give us some basic editor functionality, but emulated will do me just fine.
>>729647892I don't know. I prefer DSP.
>>729648445Styx himself and the setting is what really carries the series for me, having a short protag "just works" for a stealth game to. It's perpahs a little goofy at times hiding under tables, but being able to do things like that means there's a lot more play space and you can sneak around within rooms, rather than sneaking between rooms which is what you do in most stealth games. Hopefully the third game is a little tighter mechanically, but I think it will go full asscreed retardation with open world slop.
Stealth got moved as an option into tripple A titles. Its not really stealth. Kojimbo was right when he called Metal Gear "Sneaking Missions". Youre not using stealth, hiding in the shadows.
>>729649060Is MGSV the biggest waste of potential and an engine in gaming history?
>>729649060I can't be the only one who preferred Ground Zeroes to the full game, right?
>>729649174all I know is konami somehow succeeded at selling a demo to players, and got away with it
>>729649293>somehow we're talking about Kojima, Bandai could easily do the same thing with fromsoft
>>729649174>I can't be the only one who preferred Ground Zeroes to the full game, right?I played more of MGSV, but Ground Zeroes was a much tighter, much better designed demo for sure.
>>729649293ENTERI love ZoE2 but I'm sure a large percent of sales of this was motivated by the MGR demo and thanks to this they power leveled to 99 and managed to pass some sort of skill check with MGS5 GZ
i'm sure there's dozens of good ones you still haven't played
>>729644535Need to play those new fms from latest contest.
>>729649551>stealth
>>729646270>excludes death to spies>includes hitman
Played this back then and really liked it.How is the second game?
>>729647135You can ignore DS if it cost more than 5 bucks. It’s not the one you want to play anyway.
>>729642690zoomers dont have the attention span for it
>>729649724>How is the second game? You can walk straight whilst crouched, so way better than the first. I still have no idea how they fucked that up in the first game.
>>729649703>nooooo not my heckin' hitman-inspired eurojank! you're not le real stealth fannever change, /v/
>>729649780>I still have no idea how they fucked that up in the first game. It's the camera, for some reason the right stick turns the character whilst trying to look up/down, but only when you're crouched. I've tried hexediting it, rebinding it, everything, but can't fix it.
