Is this a good entry point into the franchise?
Are these games fun solo?
>>
No. You start with Monster Hunter Freedom and go up so you can have some proper standards and realize how hard Crapcum fucked the series.
>B-BUT LE JANKY LE OUTDATED AND CLUNKY AND-
You will adapt and learn, or forever remain a tourist. Your choice.

Rise starts out really easy so you won't have problems difficulty wise.
This keeps on going until like 95% of the game when they made Apex Monster Emergency quests which will 1 shot you if you make a single mistake in a hunt that lasts 30,40+ minutes.
They are optional but it just shows how dumb modern Capcom is at designing difficulty as this was the same problem with World and Iceborne.
This curve also means that most of the game isn't satisfying to beat as you don't have many difficulty "walls" like in the older games.
So Rise is only really fun at a small stretch of the game when you unlock final level quests which allow you to finalize your build before your defense essentially becoming meaningless due to the aformentioned one shots.
At that point of the game you don't even grind for gear anymore, you just practice your skills in order to not gen 1 shot.
Depending on the type of player you are, you might love or hate because if you play action RPGs for metaprogression you won't get much out of it while if you like the action part more, you'll get a kick out of perfecting a fight against a boss.
Haven't played Sunbreak yet but I doubt they changed much.

In older games you couldn't move and heal at the same time but as a trade-off monsters did have less random behaviour so you could really do cool shit once you completely learned a monster's movement patterns. And the older games provide more satisfaction once you overcome monsters that gave you trouble before.
BUT
Multiplayer quests in the older games are a complete pain in the ass to solo as they were scaled with 2 players in mind even if you enter them solo.
They changed this is World(Iceborne) and Rise so you can solo them with more ease than in the older games.
If you don't like modern Monster Hunter games, don't be discouraged to try older ones and vice versa as they all are very different.

>dude ignore the actual MH fan fellow tourist!!!
You know you're dealing with faggots when telling someone to start from the early games results in anger.
>>

>same problem with World and Iceborne.
No. They don't one-shot you if you came prepared. They just have 0 breathing room and remove 45% of your health per hit. Ironically fatalis hits you for like 80% of your health but gives you a lot more time to heal so it's not that bad... But fatalis has a billion fucking health even in solo so you barely have time to heal.

I started with 4U and this game felt more like animal abuse than a hunt

Since world killed the soul of the franchise I wanted a game that felt like 3,4U,Gen but with the qol of world and that's what rise is but it's extremely easy so I stopped playing
>>
Rise is a real game
World is movieslop
>>
>is it a good entry point
not really, they are faster and more anime and every future game will feel slower and less responsive
>is it fun solo
yeah

Nobody plays like this
This is not representative of real monster hunter gameplay
It is dishonest shilling to present webms of people playing like this to the unaware

Is the most dinamic version of MH until now, so yeah is a good starting point and is fun as hell solo or with friends.
My only complain about the game (leaving the lame story aside because this is MH) are the armors, honestly MH:World and Wilds have better armor designs.
>>
>>729647447
Bad at the game huh?
>>
>>729647591
Not even speedrunners play like that (because its inefficient and overly theatrical)
>>
>>729643842
It's got some insane schmovement for a MH game which is both a blessing and a curse
>>
Yeah it's good, by far the best entry for playing solo too with Sunbreak adding in hunting companions (basically NPC hunters). They don't bloat monster HP but can buff and heal you, and distract monsters somewhat.

My only complaint is the ever increasing arms race between monsters and hunters. They compensate for better hunters by increasing the shit out of monster mobility. Now the endgame mons are spastic fuckers that teleport (yep, just jumping around isn't good enough anymore) all over the place whilst spamming aoe attacks. And then the devs realised they forgot to give the player any opening to do dmg so they had to add a lengthy tired phase in.

>"dude rise is way too fast"

Nothing moves faster than primordial malzeno

You know that games are played for fun, don't you?

I haven't seen a single nu-monster, primalzeno included, that outpaced G-rank great baggi.

I can't help but think that someone who starts with Rise might feel disheartened when realizing Wirebugs and Palamutes aren't a recurring feature for the franchise. I felt a similar way after being told underwater combat wasn't a thing outside of Tri
