Other decks can make use of it for sure, but it seems designed for Rescue Ace mainly.

Also when setting up you have to weigh the pros and cons of getting RESCUE and flipping it that turn to extend with Hydrant, or saving it for disruption/to revive a guy they remove, and whether or not to link of Hydrant or keep it to buff your spells/traps.

Every single Konmai shill having this opinion at the same time is bad news for the game.
Say what you want about every deck needing the same 24 hand traps, it makes playing multiple decks more affordable because you only have to buy/craft those 24 cards once.
If the idea is that games should go towards engine vs engine that just means Konmai expects you to buy/craft a brand new deck every time a set comes out. Look at how many URs Branded has for an idea of what that looks like.

Instead there are middle grounds that can be taken instead, like how Imperm requires you to set it which both telegraphs its presence and leaves it vulnerable to removal. Or there can be other downsides, like slap the Izuna/Dominus Spiral downside on it if you control cards. Or make it unactivatable but only if you summoned from the ED more than once last turn. Or make it have a weaker effect if it's past turn 1. Or make it only activatable as the first effect you activate in a turn. Or if you control a monster make it only activatable if your opponent has summoned more than twice this turn.

There are a lot of downsides they can add that don't just leave you with a handful of bricks if you go first but also nerf endboard+hand traps.

Requiring no cards promotes linear and repetitive play patterns, it's also not interactive. If you put bodies or S/T on the board during the opponent's turn you are actually playing the game.
All the common handtraps are some flavor of negate (ash, veiler, imperm, dominus) or draw floodgate (roach, chummy, droll).
I'm an old school player and in the old days Heavy Storm was hated because of how dumb it was. It's a non-interactive card that you sack into going second, drop without a second thought and either trade for solemn or blow out an opponent. Heavy's existence put players in a lose-lose situation, you either set 1 card and lose to MST (which was at 3) or you set 2 and lose to heavy.
I think Dracotail would be an example of good design if the Dracotail monsters didn't have secondary effects like pops or negates alongside their searches. Resolving Faimena and Arthalion is already a +3, getting non-target pops/negates in the GY is beyond bullshit.

They weren't unfair as handtraps either. Druis, Baldrake, Saronir do nothing on their own. Vs both Tears and Fiendsmith, you needed at least 3 Bystials to actually stop their combos. Because Lacrima can summoned a banished Fiend 2 Bystials was not enough (they would dump Moon, Req, Engraver, Lacrima) it was better to have 1 bystial and 1 veiler since you couldn't run imperm. And EVEN THEN, Fiendsmith decks would just make SP and banish your Bystial anyway.
Bystials were broken against old ass decks like pre-support Raidraptor. Banishing from the GY has generally been a subpar disruption for the life of YGO, called is the exception because it's also a lingering negate.
Meanwhile having a monster that does nothing on your field is bad news, it can't attack or defend your LP turn 0 so it just make shit like Ketu Dragontail and Thrust live.

You can't say that Druis does nothing on its own when it requires specific answers to remove without taking something with it. Even just going to battle with it will at least let you force something out.
But even the more mediocre Bystials are extremely strong vs the right decks. Anyone who's played with them has had a good amount of games where they will win you games outright thanks to just being large beaters after stopping an opponent's combo.
