RuneScape 3 is at an all time low in terms of its player count. I feel like this trend is going to continue until the game shuts down for good in a few years.
i think the main reason why jagax is so intent on ruining runescape is because they are insecure about the fact that they bought a game so beloved from a small dev team, a dream come true to work on something so great, and yet were struck with the reality that nothing THEY did with it was ever loved, it shattered their fantasy that they were now the "owners" of this product and thus in charge by making them realize they never made the beloved parts and it created a sense of inadequacy that led to angeri think it's the same thing that happened with minecraft, and why mojang are REALLY removing notch from everything they can sure there's the public excuse of "he's a baaaaad maaaan" but that's just to appease the public who won't complain if his name is erased from his work, but their real reason, the internal emotional reason, is that they're upset that they can't lay claim to the thing in their hands, a jewel they didn't craft and can only boast a document stating their ownership of it
The current CEO says he can see the game running for another ten years. With how sweeping the MTX removal next month is I dont know how they recoup the financial hit. He's said he is willing to take a financial hit for a few years but you have to wonder how the owners feel about that.

There are 27,000 players on RS3 currently, but these numbers are heavily inflated during the christmas event.
