I'll ask here since i can't do a shameless rec thread in /co/. What are some good superman runs to read? I've read some standalone-ish stuff like Birthright, All Seasons and American Alien. But i'd like something a bit more serialized. Kinda like the Geoff Johnes run of Green Lantern. Maybe not as expansive or as long, but with enough story arcs to feel satisfying.

For a hard mode, they can make it so that overuse of Superman's powers can leave him drained and weakened, so he'll have to recharge like in Absolute. Maybe break it up into “investigation phases” as Clark Kent where you have to keep your cover, make sure Jimmy, Lois, and other civilians are safe during the investigation, and figure out what’s wrong via puzzle solving and stealthy use of powers. Then you have “Hero Phase” where you find a place to change, suit up, and have some good old fashioned combat, maybe mix in a few really spectacular QTEs during disaster scenes and boss fights for the trailers and journalists. You could even throw in some Ace Attorney like Visual Novel sections in the “investigation phases” so the game’s not just all action, and let Clark flex his brain too.Ideally you’d want the game’s three main strengths to be the writing (and not just the dialogue, give Clark some clever uses of his powers too), the visuals (especially setpieces), and the investment the player has into the lives of the people of Metropolis. I’m imagining Phoenix Wright but instead of going to court, Phoenix suits up and manually stops the crime himself. Character and narrative driven, with Superman’s powers serving the plot and being a nice pretty looking thing to get people’s attention. Like if your reward for solving a Professor Layton puzzle was a Metal Gear Rising Revengance Cutscene.

But Superman actually has a splendid roster of villains, and a very cool supporting cast of both other heroes and humans. I really have no idea why people pretend like a Superman game wouldn't work.
