I remember when I first played this as a kid being absolutely jaw dropped at finding out that after the first area the game becomes semi open world. This was my first exposure to an open world game years before I got to play GTA 3. This was such a huge memorable moment as a kid seeing that I can pretty almost much go anywhere I want

Hyrule Field was a technical achievement at the time, but they knew how empty and boring it was to actually traverse. That's why they included the warp points from Zora's Domain to Lake Hylia, the warp points to/from the Lost Woods to Goron City and Zora's Domain, the warp songa, and Epona.
Even as a kid I knew Hyrule Field was dogshit, especially coming from ALTTP which does the overworld 10x better.
