(1/2) This are my full predictions for the next smash game with everything that we knowI’d like to put aside that anyone who thinks that there won’t be a next smash game because of Sakurai, Nintendo isn’t going to not make millions of dollars because of a single man. These games are made by more than one person. The next game will be about an open world 3D map focused mostly on online play. Good servers, good input, everything fixed. but it will be what brawl was to melee. This will be a more casual fun game, with ultimate still remaining as the definitive“ultimate” smash game. Players will roam a map that is combinations of many worlds of Nintendo and others (mushroom kingdom, hyrule etc) where players meet up at stages to challenge each-other. I but will be similar to king of the hill/pokemon go gyms where a player will retain control of a powerful position as bragging rights in the lobby (roughly 30 players) for example the Temple map and other iconic fun maps that aren’t just final destination variants. It will simplify the ruleset: it will have limited items, final smashes will be toned down, and be a middle ground between the party casual rules and competitive. Items will be focused on vibing well with characters instead of auto win things. The roster is the biggest concern: I think they will divide the characters the same as maps, by universes. Characters with few/none other fighters from the roster will probably but cut unless they can be paired with another from the rights owners or unless they are grouped into an “other” faction. (For example all Mario characters will be one universe)

(2/2) At the start of matchmaking, you will select a universe to play with the characters with. You will have the opportunity to switch to another character from your universe at the start of a battle if you don’t like the match up. People who are in “control” of a map will have to give up control to switch their character, with in game tool tips showing the other player/players what a good counter pick may be. This is the most realistic prediction I think, unless they want to re release ultimate with more dlc, or just try to out do ultimate and which I don’t think is possible considering the roster, leaving only a big gameplay change. Look at Mario kart 8 vs Mario kart world. They couldn’t top Mario kart 8, so they had to do something new.
