It doesn't seem like there's any good gamedev content on youtube. Yes I know it's slop but it would be nice as a source of motivation every now and then
>>729697431ill upload a new devlog to motivate yallz
I'm not capable of self-motivation enough to learn abstract processes like game making. I've even mentally streamlined and lowered my scope/expectation to the point it's at a flash game-tier and I still have no idea how to actually start or learn coding. The task seems too daunting. I never "learned how to learn".
>>729697330I posted a trailer for Bingo Betty, I still need to tweak it a bit but it's better than nothing until I get a better version up
>>729697528just use an engine and get an ai to write your code.or better yet ask an ai how to code.
Guys give me a story idea for a futanari game
And this... is to go even further beyond
>>729697330If you're going to post this every day then it's just a general. Fuck off to >>>/vg/551999234
>>729697635Is AI even good for coding?
I'm making an h-game and motivation is evaporating when I see a new AI game released every other week getting more revenue than I do in a year.
>>729697789That's literally its main use case
>>729697789It's better than a beginner coder for sure.Is it a good idea to have your whole game written by AI? No.But it's a godsend when it comes to debugging why your code doesn't work and can give you good suggestions how to improve it and optimize it.
>>729698073>Is it a good idea to have your whole game written by AI? No.It is if you know what you're doing and have access to a good model
>>729698135Like GPT 5.1?
>>729698135There was a report done recently that went through all github repos and found that code written by AI have 30% more issues open in github and has more vulnerabilities.
We have some stuff to share on Thursday. We'll see you then.
uh oh, AIjeet melty
>>729698237No, GPT 5.1 is horrifically bad. You might as well run a local model.>>729698319If you can't see the bias in that study I don't know what to tell you, you are probably too low IQ to be a programmer in the first place
>>729697330implemented the save points and finally decided for the idea some anon gave me about etched stones. I'll try to make the engraving cooler but for now I think it's nice enough
>>729698502only thing left is adding the missing SFX (quite a few of those) and making a demo level, something I'm quite excited about>>729698465nice! how did the stream finally go? I wasn't able to join due to christmas stuff
>>729698073>godsend when it comes to debugging why your code doesn't work and can give you good suggestions how to improve it and optimize itthat is literally its most fatal weaknessa chatbot does not understand whatsoever your codebase nor the language, it is actually guessing answers if its not looping endlessly on the same wrong answers then you got lucky
>>729698695In comparison to our recent performances it was bad but considering the trouble we had making it and the fact it was aired Christmas Eve I think we did well. But I need to figure out how to get a wider audience for these things.

>>729698885yeah the date wasn't the best, specially for the anons in Europe>But I need to figure out how to get a wider audience for these thingsmaking stuff for a wider audience often means getting rid of the unique stuff, or at least making that stuff with the "wider audiences" in mind. Do you shill it in other boards aside from here? Do you shill it outside 4chan?
>>729698135this, except it will struggle, and you really need to baby it. plus it cant do anything overly complicated.
>>729697330how do you actually learn 3D? the donut fag doesn't teach you anything practical
>>729698487>If you can't see the bias in that study I don't know what to tell you, you are probably too low IQ to be a programmer in the first placeI literally have CS degree and i work as a software developer. you're not as bright as you think you are.
>>729699052>Shilling it on other boards No because it's hard to shill "/v/3" on boards that aren't /v/ BUT we do run ads on all boards during the lead up to the shows.>Outside 4chanSorta tried that but we're going to do it a different way for the summer show.>UniqueThat's the challenge. It's such a niche subject material that I worry there's a limit to how far our audience goes and I constantly get discouraged when I hear people go "well you guys don't do THAT good". So I guess I just chug along.
>>729699143learn the basics and practice on your own. My models still suck but I notice I'm more in control of Blender and model way faster than before

https://files.catbox.moe/74gng2.mp4I'm trying to turn this into an actual game. You're in a scifi AC-130 doing CAS for some dudes on the ground against waves of bugsCurrently the dudes on the ground get overwhelmed too easily. Maybe I make it so they're capable of holding their own but they've got finite ammo reserves and your job is to help stretch that ammo for long enough that their evac dropship arrives and they can leave.

>>729699246don't get discouraged man! If people criticize is because people care enough to do, so that's something already. Wish you tons of luck for the next one! >>72969743190% of them are pure and utter slop. The 10% out there are golden for ideas and motivation. The best one I found that had some actual meat to it in terms of content, scope, launch, and general development, was NEBULOUS:https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PLJS8iVuILp7X618D-l4GLL3Lnwi8hydHU

>>729697431>It doesn't seem like there's any good gamedev content on youtubeThere used to be in 2016 before the jeetpocalypse where almost every single game dev anything is just utter slop and incorrect advice. Then again, even back then, Unity content was trash and most unreal content was just "hey I bought 2 assets, let's set them up!"Most on youtube are youtubers, they are not actual game devs that understand anything.
i needed like 6 cats for a mechanic it is integral to the plot of my game
>>729697789Yes and no. It can give you a foundation and the how-to on working through processes, but if all you do is copy and paste what it gives you, you're going to end up with a buggy, unoptimized, or outright broken mess more often than not (which is precisely why Windows 11 is so trash). So if you intend to use AI to help with coding, you're going to need to learn a bit about coding yourself in order to optimize and debug it, which by themselves are valuable skills in software development. And you can even use the AI to help with debugging too.AI is a very helpful tool in game development, but it is many years off from being able to do everything for you. If nothing else, it's a great motivator in making everything seem significantly more possible for you regardless of skill level, which is the whole reason I've been able to start working on my game in the first place. Faggot youtubers are somehow worse at teaching me how to use my engine and write my code than ChatGPT.
>>729704160>Faggot youtubers are somehow worse at teaching meyoutubers have always been shitthe reason why LLMs are good at small nudges and instructions is because they're trained on the objectively superior form: text posts
>>729701293>most unreal content was just "hey I bought 2 assets, let's set them up!"still like that
>>729697789No, if you don't know how to code you'll never see when AI is completly wrong or doesn't use the proper concept. It's only good at writting ot for you.
Spent whole day fixing an annoying bug related to raycasts in Godot. Apparently they will retain old collision data after being removed from the tree... when added back in they think they still collided with something and remove themselves from the tree again.
>>729700296Yea they're all from demo day games
>>729697330I am plinking away at 3d stuff and handpainted texturesany ideas on how to improve the floor texture? Ignore the tiling issues, UV unwrapping to pixel perfect borders causes bleeding that looks worse. I need to take and make the image a few pixel larger to add a margin to the trimsheet textures.
>>729704284I've always been a visual learner. I learn best when I watch how something is done so I can replicate it on my own, and YouTube is perfect for that. You are right though, because despite this gamedev youtubers have been shit at helping me learn anything. I found exactly ONE good one (for RPG Maker specifically) many years ago but they've since disappeared from the platform. I've yet to find one who even came close to how good they were at teaching, even for other engines. ChatGPT of all things has been extremely helpful in this regard.
>>729707039It's pretty busy all throughout. Usually, cartoon styles like that will have areas of visual "rest". This would contrast with the more textural elements. Maybe try referencing The Wind Waker since it has something similar going on.https://noclip.website/#zww/Ojhous;ShareData=AEG9U9sEts9A]i7UKrn-V48;(N*&J]UfORlUT,QtV7aYU9ZaM4T}0ma9r$}o+^
>>729704901force_raycast_updateUpdates the collision information for the ray immediately, without waiting for the next _physics_process call. Use this method, for example, when the ray or its parent has changed state.Note: enabled does not need to be true for this to work.
>>729707561hmm, good suggestion, I see now what I should be doing. Too much color variation, and too much contrast between bright and dark areas on the texture.
>>729697330>what you working on, /v/?>art? game mechanics? assets? misc?Redoing the art of all the monsters. Just redid the Kobold models and textures, trying to think of some abilities for them. The shaman/warlock dude will get a sticky fire ability that leaves patches of burning ground because that seems pretty cancer but I'm not sure what to give the warriors...
>>729707607That's what I did to fix it, now I'm trying to fix performance because I get around 30fps when 150 people are shooting
https://voca.ro/12mi1ahbEUhiWIP, I'm thinking it might work for a minigame
Any money in porn games these days? You'd think with AI being able to help with the art we'd be in a golden age of them.
Been working on a couple shaders which webm is one of in addition to animations and game mechanics.>>729707039I'd say it's not the texture itself but instead what >>729707561 is saying where as a scene you could have surrounding textures on the floor that are simpler and maybe less pronounced. I personally really like what you're doing with the wall texture though.
>>729698695Cute (goblin) waifu
>>729709557most porn games were already scraping the bottom of the barrel in low effort slop, ai's mostly just replaced the role of DAZ goblins for games on f95
>>729709641hmm. y'know, I've become sort of fixated on making use of a trimsheet for texturing my scene, but I don't really need one, I'll just directly handpaint something simple to get the rough idea of the floor material across.thanks!
>>729709557There's so many sectors of porn that it's hard to tell, and games that try to cater to as many fetishes as possible aren't very good.Porn games also have this problem of "porn only happens if you lose".

The only one of my games that ever sold was a porn game. It made a substantial amount, but I don't sell it any more because it makes me feel ashamed and anxious. I'm ashamed that my only success came from something I can't even show to my friends and family. I can't even tell if it was my art or the game that did it. I thought it would just be a one and done shitpost game that no one would play, but now it's essentially what I'm known for.
