Why are there no good space opera games?

Mass Effect 1, and (so I hear) KOTOR.

BSG is all, "what if terrorism, but space." Imagine being lost in the middle of bumfucknowhere, and at any moment, your entire life could come crashing down due to mass panic, food shortages, or artificial scarcity.

Nah ME could've been a modern take on SC2 if it leaned into planet exploration more with the second game but instead it went hard on the narrative aspect instead, sigh what could've been, thats why ME1 is still my favorite of the series.
>>
>>729703602
i really don't think BSG got hit by the strike at all. maybe it floundered a little post-reveal of the cylons, but i think it had more to to with changing the focus of the narrative than bad writing. it stabilized once the transition from the opening arc to the closing arc was done.

i think most of the hate comes from the final bit about earth which really just comes down to personal preference
>>
>>729703752
planet exploration in ME1 was kinda ass to be honest. shifting focus from auto-generated worlds to human-made content was the right call.

>no epic space battles because they're also unrealistic

That's just hard sci-fi through the lens of a dying civilization so morally corrupt they're more concerned with the appearance of it than actually having any. There's simple solutions to all those problems but they'd rock the status quo so much one can't really envision them ever happening until after civilization recovers from total nuclear war and the gay retards are all gone.

The most graceful thing about BSG was when they suddenly needed to make the show longer, so they introduced a fucking retarded retcon (The real life constellations we know around IRL Earth actually point to a planet that isn't IRL Earth, so we still need to find IRL Earth!) and churned out an entire season worth of depressing misery porn.

>go ahead and list your grievances
It's been over a decade since I last saw it, but I vividly remember the character assassination of Admiral Adama in the last season on top of absolutely bonkers plan of "technology bad!" risking the last of humanity by throwing all of their tech into the sun regressing to the stone age for the flimsiest reason, while also using the battlestar skeleton crewed on a suicide mission for a single fucking baby.
This isn't even touching on the fact that they landed in sub-Saharan Africa of all the places to choose which was inhabited by spear chuckers who were coincidentally genetically compatible and the direct implication they were our ancestors that got bred out of existence.

I remember really enjoying the show overall despite having some weak seasons, only to have one of the worst endings for a TV show I've witnessed up until GoT. Sadly it's been so long I don't remember every specific detail but that show is forever on my shitlist right there with nu-trek.

Wow, right away you just know that this is at least a 15+ year old show, because you will never find any piece of Western made media with a cast like that ever again.

It is also unintentionally realistic, since Whites and Northeast Asians are really the only ones intelligent and competent enough to create space faring civilizations to begin with.

Really one of the many reasons why S5 is so unfathomably bad. Not as if contrarians would help change our minds.

But at least we can all agree on one thing, it's this: BSG S5 is not Stargate S8 or Star Trek TNG S7.

They did... in the end. The Final Five wanted the Cylons to branch out and find their own path, but the Twos endlessly seethed that they were made in humanity's image, as a tribute to God. They felt their form was confining, and as machines they could accomplish so much more if they weren't restrained to the bodies they currently have.

So rather than modify their bodies or download their consciousnesses into more synthetic bodies the Twos rallied the rest of the humanoid Cylons to take revenge on the Final Five for their flawed creation. They created clone bodies for the Five with modified memories to make them believe they were human, killed them to download them into their new bodies, then sent them to live among the human colonies to experience the "weaknesses of humanity". Their intent was for the Five to die during the Fall of the Colonies, so that when they would resurrect again they would get on their hands and knees and beg the Twos for forgiveness, acknowledging them as right all along.

But that's not what happened. The Five survived the Fall and continued to fight against the hostile Cylons despite their missing memories, and the sole member of the Five who regained them (Ellen) immediately resumed her previous stance of being penitent to God and to work in harmony with humanity, infuriating the Twos. In the end, the hostile faction was destroyed, the surviving humanoid Cylons populated New Earth with humanity, and gave the Centurions their freedom to explore the stars and find their own path. They may one day return to New Earth, but it won't be for a while yet.

The Centurions couldn't even speak, poor fucks got the worst of it out of anyone. Even classic Centurions in the original series could speak. They deserve their freedom.
>>
>>729707708
first 3 are fine, the chink girl in 3 deserved a better ending though
4 was weird but I guess I liked it. Peter getting called a hwhyteboy by a nip who learned to love the bomb was a highlight.
tried getting into the prequels but the first few pages were so ass I never even finished the main series because 5 apparently links to some secondary series which starts off in the prequels and I can't be fucking bothered

osc just can't help himself and let his ideas be thought over by the reader, I like his stuff but it's too heavy handed
>>
>>729708152
oh, that's what you meant

her story was way more relevant as a hardcore martian in a post-gate galaxy

i sometimes forgot that people have to analyze a show through like five lenses of culture war bullshit
>>
>>729708126
Too real.
My nephew wanted to watch a show with me and was on his phone for more than half of it. I've also learned that they watch videos sped up.

it's going to be a sequel. they still have the rights to the game itself i think, they just had to change the name. SC2 is on steam as Free Stars: The Ur-Quan Masters

Haven't read books but I hated what they did with Martians. They were advertised as a technologically advanced people that is focused to make things better for people on Mars to people betraying both Mars and Earth. And once other worlds are introduced, there were no long a point to their back story.
>>
>>729709037
I think you've missed the bigger picture.
>>
>>729707585
does anyone even read past dune 4? why?
>>
>>729709367
sunk cost fallacy
>>
>>729709037
The three factions at the start of the story were great and set up well enough to where you could milk the conflict for way more content. But kind of the point of it all was what do you do with a faction like the Martians when Mars is no longer the goal?

>Firefly is barely even scifi
Yeah, apart from the eponymous spaceship that's central to the story, terraforming, spacesuits, holograms, automated advanced med-bay, massive space battle in Serenity, the Alliance uniforms mirroring Starship Troopers', gravity drives, etc. etc.
>>
>>729709037
thats exactly what happens in the books.... so their whole thing is creating a new earth in mars, terraforming it. BUT with the opening of the portals and habital worlds at reach, their whole purpose for centuries is lost, the martian identity is lost, some factions want to still terraform mars, others see it as pointless now, thats how you get the laconia faction, theyre the ones who have given up on the old world and want to forge their own future in another ready made planet. The next seasons would have focused more on those martians now called "laconians"

Owlcat isn't making what I want so I'm not looking forward to The Expanse game. Exodus has a Concord/Mass Effect Andromeda vibe, so I'm not that impressed with it, probably won't play it. Intergalatic looks like trash, and I don't like anything Naughty Dog makes, so... not playing that. Disney killed my interest in Star Wars so I won't be playing the Kotor remake. I'm a bit miffed about there not being any good (new) space opera games, but I'm in no hurry to play one either, I can keep waiting for the right dev to come along.

I stopped watching the expense when the nigger got the mormon spaceship, that entire thing was pretty retarded

isnt the ship called serenity
>>

yeah... uh... let me just save this picture right here...
>>
>>729709836
Yes. There is also a Firefly movie called Serenity.

I got pretty deep into this but then I got distracted (forgot why) and stopped watching a couple years back.
I need to just restart I guess.

>No ayyys
>No psychic or other funny super power
>No 5 billions year old super civilisation you only find ruin from
>No abominable sentient monsters powerful enought to be called god
I want a funny adventure, not "oh a rock, and next to it ? Oh a rock"
This is why starfield failed
>>
>>729706976
You mean this?
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Killjoys
>>
>>729710324
Starfield literally has dragon shouts, super entities, and ancient civilizations. It failed because it was bad, not because it's hard scifi(it's not).
>>

Why are there no good space operas?
>>
>>729706002
DS9
>>
>>729710341
>>729710153
yes, it's more cyberpunk in space than anything, corpos are the big bad controlling everything
>>
>>729710394
No intelligent aliens killed it
Dragon shout aren't funny super power
The "ruins" were cut/paste shit
>>
>>729710324
It's still baffling that a company known for making games in wacky universes full of all kinds of strange creatures (Elder Scrolls and Fallout) decided it would be a great idea to make a boring pseudo-realistic "NASApunk" game with no aliens.
If they had made first-person Mass Effect people would have loved it and forgiven its numerous flaws.
>>
>>729710408
Because an opera requires sound, reverberation through air. In (((space))) there is no air, no reverberation. (((Space))) is a lie.
>>
>>729710460
Like I said, because it was BAD. You could add in aliens too and it would still be ass.
>>
>>729710408
It's kind of hard to do.
>>
>>729710468
>>729710460
there was a leak about a future DLC where there would be space khajiit and they were the ones behind the magic monoliths or whatever the fuck
>>
>>729710523
Space isn't actually a pure void. The lie is that it is. It's full of random ass particles of shit, just at ultra low density.
>>
>>729710576
Whatever you say, jew.
>>
>>729706002
Well, it's definitely not Stargate, no matter how much I like it.
>>
>>729710613
What....? How is anything I said even remotely jewish. There was no mention of killing whites, mass immigration, or ritual child sacrifice.
>>
>>729710564
There wasn't a leak.
>>
>>729710696
You implied that (((space))) even exists. That makes you a jew.
>>
>>729711109
But white people invented the concept of space? Not jews?

I dunno about gracefully, but it did at least end.

Development is super slow, they haven’t even finished the arcade combat portion yet, I’d be surprised if the full game releases in 2026, if at all.
