You have you remember that a computer is a tool and you use what you have to use depending on your use case. If you are doing commercial work that requires industry software then Windows would be the most compatible. If you have limited knowledge on computers in general then Windows also would be helpful. However windows comes with its own set of problems as does the variety of linux distributions. It's a trade off.

I think I'll just wait for my next PC upgrade and switch over to Arch. Windows 7 really was the last good windows and 11 will never find itself a home in my metal. I already use linux for handling my servers and would kill to set up a proper home networking setup with media, NAS, cameras and a workshop for playing with IOT and electronics since I never got to play with electronics as a kid and think it would be a sick hobby to get into. Games older than 15 years have better performance on Linux than Windows with Nvidia gpu. Games with vulkan or opengl main backend have better performance than on windows.

The exception to the rule being DX11 games developed between 2015 - 2020 which have about 20% lower performance on Linux. DX12 games have about the same performance but newest games have slightly better performance on Linux.

I'd say if you emulate games or play older games Linux is a must. If you play the newest AAA games and care about best performance Linux is a must. If you play specific "old" games which are only old for Gen Z or Alphies then stick to windows.

If you are on 4chan and are a gamer you should be forced to use Linux purely for your own quality of life. It's just superior.

Not really. Was true 3 years ago, not really anymore.

It's "terrible" as in you will largely have the same performance on Linux with your Nvidia gpu as on windows. Compared to AMD and Intel GPUs that have 30% better performance on Linux than on windows.

Linux is a better operating system so Nvidia GPUs performing the same as on windows IS a failure. But you are not losing out compared to using windows if that's your concern.

I have the opposite issue where I want to install linux for everything else on my PC and use Windows for exclusively for gaming. Trying to figure out if it's worth the hassle but I'm leaning towards it more and more, it's just that I've not formatted my drives in like 10 years and I'm dreading doing something like that.
