>>729736691Literacy concerns had already been an issue in the country since the 1870s. I believe Hangul started being used in government documents by the early 1900s. Ironically it was Japan who finally forced Korea to standardize its writing system in 1933 while under their rule. While Japan too was put under immense pressure by the U.S. to reform its writing system, I think the country used the "you're erasing our history!!!11!1" excuse and has since not reexamined the issue.>>729737140It's harder, retard. Has learning Japanese changed much with AI coming around?Back when I did it, it was pretty much just Anki, Genki, and WaniKani being tossed around. I wouldn't mind getting back into learning because I did have fun when I did it.

>>729738220No, they can't. The 常用漢字 is the nation's standard, and the two syllabaries would require another reform to make reading easier.>>729738265It really is that bad. The readings are complex, and having to juggle three different scripts at any given time makes the language very complex to write.
>>729738330Have fun being a dekinai then.
>>729738464>The readings are complex, not really an issue because natives already know all the words place names and names are the only real problem when it comes to reading them for natives
>>729738640First of all, natives don't "know all the words." Second, even if they did "know all the words," they do not know all the spellings. This is why furigana was almost a necessity to read pre-reform works.
>>729726804You have to relearn the second after you learn the third but it’s way easier to learn
>>729738810its still a really overblown issue for nativesanybody with a mild interest in reading can read almost everything they want with minimal lookups and worst case they just skip over a few kanji readings in their head but still understand it
>>729738320Sounds pretty basic, should be possible with any model that knows Japanese. Just ask it to correct your grammar as you talk.

>>729740350I'm completely serious. It's just like how in real life, you don't master a word until you've used it 5~7 times. Same shit with Japanese. You need constant, repeated exposure to a word in order to master its meaning, otherwise when you see it the next time it'll just be like>uhhhh what was that word again uhhh well it feels like I've seen it before so I'll just like assume I know it and keep goingwhich is not helpful to one's comprehension or mastery of the language in the long run.
>>729726701how the fuck do the chinese read at least japanese has kana to add some flow to the text
>>729740447酩酊
>>729739458Eh, you get used to it. Most readers are recognizing it by the general shape, rather than the individual strokes. Helps if you already know the word.
>>729739856I'm still a beginner but I've been going through WaniKani and I can recognize like 6-700 kanji but I can't write any of them. Reading is my best skill because of this, but I can barely speak because output isn't something I have practiced at all. I have trouble pulling out words off the top of my head, but would recognize them if I saw/heard them. So from my experience, I would say they are definitely separate skills somewhat.

>>729740938I'd say making sense of this shit is way harder than japanese
As a beginner, I really don't understand the learning by just watching anime thing. To learn through input, it has to be comprehensible and I don't think jumping straight into native material is very comprehensible, especially at the speed that Japanese is spoken. I feel like there are also some grammar patterns that are really unintuitive.
>>729741165not the pointthe point is the person learning can't be aware which is the proper word without actually getting feedback from a native speaker you learn this word and start using it in your normal speech, but you actually end up with weird habits
>>729741262if you also read (which will be slowly with a dictionary) then eventually it all comes together
>>729741262you should watch chiikawa to learn
>>729741262The point with that is to actually comprehend Japanese as language and words, and not just sounds. Most people who watch anime subbed don't hear Japanese- they hear noises they don't understand. You watch with a conscious effort to discern individual words, pronunciations, that kind of thing. This isn't like, how you learn Japanese. It's just cataloging it in your mind as vocab.
>>729741262Grammar patterns by N3 are incomprehensible by native English speakers by immersion alone, you'll need to actually have some sort of actual study material by then
>>729741249Yeah, and the fact that someone isn't willing to sit down and grind out simple things like this (which realistically consolidate down into groups which are easier to remember anyway) then it's probably for the best that they go nowhere near being an actual nurse, because if they can't be assed to remember things like this, what fuck ups will they make which can jeopardize human lives because they weren't willing to remember things that actually matter? The sooner you grasp that most of this is designed to filter out undisciplined, lazy shitfucks, the quicker you understand most "higher education" and particularly the medical sphere.

>>729758384At least you'd be close. Learning the pronunciations of kanji is an entirely pointless endeavor.
>>729758384Exactly, kids stop learning "how characters sound" around preschool and from then on they learn "how words are pronounced" because there are so many variations of sounds and exceptions.Learning kanji outside of vocabs is as retarded as an adult learning the alphabet letter by letter with only one sound per letter.
>>729757791Those should be the ones, but for some reason my 10k deck (based on the 2k/6k deck) still uses some non-joyo kanji that are in extremely common words like 嬉 or 嘘, but learning those becomes trivial if you finish RTK, I recommend SRS software like Anki or Kanji Koohii to keep track of them and add them as you encounter them
>>729726701I really need an anki deck that shows the kanji and then on the other side a couple of words with the different readings of that kanji. I feel like using cards that only have one phrase with one type of reading is making it harder to memorize, since sometimes I can't really remember if I have seen the same kanji in some other word or not

>>729760261you can get a qt japanese gf in DQ10
>>729759035>>729759460The simple answer to this is that you don't need to autistically do only a single thing with your life. 4 years ago I started going to Japanese classes once a week and I went from a friendless loser to having two friends I talk to almost daily. So my life was improved even if I'm still far from being able to read japanese (my fault for only starting grinding kanji this year though). You could do some japanese here and there and also try to invest your time in some skill you think is worth it. If you're a neet then doing any sort of small routine will improve your current situation. Having this "it's all or nothing" mentality is holding you back. Take baby steps and be proud of your progress even if it's not huge.
>>729760261After a while you understand that japanese is not really translatable so you appreciate japanese for its own sake and if you're interested in the country itself then it has a huge cultural advantage but except for english and the language of your country all other languages don't have that many advantages in life.

Honestly i cant see myself being able to work a full time job at this point as i find my time to be precious to me and wish to savour it. The most mystifying thing about Japanese to me is >ore, omae, kare, yatsu, temee, kisama, yaru etc are all super common in anime>considered super rude and offensive irl and never usedHow does that happen? I get that there's dramatic language in English as well but there's basically no individual word that's common in English fiction that's completely out of use irl barring maybe overly flowery and polite language
>>729761948>considered super rude and offensive irl and never usednot really, most of those are pretty common between friends and people you're close and equals with
>>729760728I like the name for Bulbasaur (Fushigidane) because he's always saying "da ne" ("isn't it?"). Going through the Pokemon anime and there's so much untranslatable shit in this (mostly puns).

>>729762158Literally every single resource that I've seen bring them up spends more time saying to not use them because it's rude and disrespectful than it does explaining them on their own
>>729761948Idk much but its like the language version of using proper manners in english culture. We do the same thing in english langauge, there are different words and titles to use in different situations, i think the japs just take it to an extreme because its in their nature to do so
limbus company download future
>>729762253>it's rude and disrespectfulthey technically arepolite people dont use these
>>729762253You're probably misunderstanding the intention behind these warnings. You need a good understanding of these words and the context you're using them in to not appear rude. This is a very complicated thing to teach because it depends on so many variables. Who are you, where are you, who are you speaking to.It's just easier for these instructors to say "just shut the fuck up and don't use them". By the way no one in japan cares if you are rude if you're speaking broken japanese. So you don't even have to think about this shit till you're actually good and people in japan would take you seriously.
>>729762491>>729762525I think what confuses me more is why is it so common in anime if it's so rare in real life? How do you get to the point that's it's normal for characters to use pronouns and rough language as standard in fiction but keep everything irl extremely polite and uptight Natural English got way more casual over time due to fiction lowering barriers, for example no one calls anyone sir anymore, even mister is said jokingly by young people, may is British-only, same for "one" instead of "you, etc how did anime not make natural Japanese more casual as well if it's so ubiquitous in Japanese fiction
>all these anons declaring the text OP put is N5 at most>they post their accompanying ""trans""lation>its completely offWhy is dunning krugers so strong in this space
>>729761948Think of the word "bastard." Have you EVER heard someone call someone a bastard in real life? I pretty much can't think of any, but it's very common in fiction.
>>729762956>why is it so common in animebecause anime depicts close people doing things together and interacting together, or people being enemies and disrespectful to each other, with some theatrical flair because it's fiction>>729762956>if it's so rare in real lifehow much have you been interacting with actual japs (that you'd be close to, or intimate friends with) in real life?
>>729762956Id say colloquial language is used more in day to day life. I think thats why resources that dont shy away from teaching it are more useful, or at least more accurate
>>729762956I mean with fiction like anime you see potentially hundreds of different contexts between hundreds of different characters in relative short order. In real life you are mostly going to encounter 2-3 different contexts in daily life. Authors also just control reactions. You can only be truly rude if the other person perceives you as rude. If not then technically you could say anything and it would not appear rude. Real life is just not that interesting and multifaceted.

It's like how you'll understand if I say "G'day cunt, bloody scorcher out there today", but unless you have the misfortune to be interacting with Australians as your first use of English a Teacher isn't going to be teaching you how to correctly substitute "cunt" for "friend, buddy, mate" without getting your teeth punched out.
>>729763375Depends on your talent. If you're average and putting in 2 hours daily I would say 2-3 years.
>>729763020I use bastard in a colloquial sense, not as an insult but as a term of endearment. Think of something like "bloody hell its good to see ya greg! You old bastard!."In the right context it makes total sense, but in the wrong context its horribly offensive
>>729763369Right, most kids learn the prefix "im" in isolation, which prepares them to learn the word "impossible" later. This is definitely how people learn English.
