>>729733726The problem is that Sonic is predominantly more popular in the West than in Japan, so Sega gets super hands on with IDW and imposes so many restrictions and guidelines that leaves characters unable to be more than milquetoast ideas of who they are, and the plot can't really go anywhere that can be ended with the main villain shouting "curses, foiled again" while flying off, regardless of whether it's Eggman or not. It's why whenever IDW publishes side material for the Sonic comic, it's always way way better, as being relatively self-contained means they're given a bit more room.Frankly they should just cancel the comic if they're not gonna let IDW actually do anything more with it other than be a shallow representation of the series that slips in references, but I guess it must make them some degree of money.

The fact of the matter is that Sega still doesn’t really know what to do about the human question. Maria, Gerald, and Tower are okay to them because they’re grandfathered into Shadow’s lore. Blade of Courage allows humans because the manga is a borderline reverse isekai. Professor Victoria only exists for that one Tailstube episode. The games themselves haven’t come up with an answer yet, so IDW has nothing to follow.

Metro City is the sonicverse's equivalent of Tokyo and appears in the Roblox game as well as the Sonic Forces mobile game. They also travel to Spagonia at one point. Eggman pulls the standard "I am using an ancient evil/power for my own agenda. How could this go wrong?" It's honestly more fun than you may expect
