Shut the Fuck up, shut The fuck Up. Stardew Valley was a rip off in the first place so it's fair game to steal from it. You can't "own" farm aesthetics with bright colours.

Stardew Valley wasn't a ripoff. It had it's own look in the farming simulator genre. It wasn't trying to look exactly like Harvest Moon, or even feel like it. And it succeeded in being unique.
This? This is absolutely a ripoff. It's trying as hard as it possibly can to look JUST like Stardew Valley.

It stole literally nothing from those games.

Every single aspect it has is taken from a harvest moon game.
There's the obvious farming and romance, which mechanic wise works the same as harvest moon.
There's the mine, which aside from having enemies also works exactly like harvest moon.
There's fishing, also works similar to harvest moon, but they used a different minigame for it.
Junimos are basically Harvest sprites.
Stardrops are basically power berries.
Mermaid's pendant is basically the Blue feather.
The writing is all over the all, every aspect of the game is the same as harvest moon, only the names changed, the functions are all the same.

>There's the obvious farming and romance, which mechanic wise works the same as harvest moon.
They're a bog standard farming and romance system. Hell, the farming is a lot closer to Rune Factory than Harvest Moon. There's not much Ape could've done to differentiate either mechanic without drastically changing the focus of the game.
>There's the mine, which aside from having enemies also works exactly like harvest moon.

it did the opposite of what I wanted. I wanted a fun farming rpg but with less of the tedious babysitting mechanics, stamina, and dumb shit like fomo quests, instead it doubled down on it
>>
>>729751408
Those type of indie ripoffs are usually made when there exists a vacuum of the game they're ripping off.
i.e., Bug Fables was made as a blatant Paper Mario clone because the devs wanted more Paper Mario games with rpg-centric mechanics, which Nintendo wasn't making at the time. Bomb Rush Cyberfunk is another example; a blatant Jet Set Radio Future clone made simply because the devs wanted another game like that, and Sega wasn't making any. People respond more positively to these type of projects because they want that gap filled just as much as the devs do.

Stardew Valley is still being actively updated, which means its toes still exist to be stepped on, which means people are going to call out any shameless clones that may pop up, since they obviously only exist to leech off the still-active game's popularity.
>>
>>729750648
What is even the point of doing something like this? I mean nobody is gonna mistake it for actual Stardew Valley and buy it by accident, and now nobody is gonna want to play it since it's so obviously a lazy and sleezy hackjob.

Feels like the ol' tricking grandma into buying a "Fony PayStation 2" for her grandson on Christmas doesn't really work with digital distribution.

stardew, like many western 'comfy' games, turn away from "wide as the ocean" design over time and turn every progression branch into self-contained linear grinds. Better farming doesnt make you better, it makes farming better. Better fishing doesnt make you better, it makes fishing better. Someone who spent 1 day farming and 9 days fishing is better at farming than someone who spent 1000 days fishing and 0 days farming. In the end it just turns into a series of content treadmills that are all ultimately ignorable because none of them have any game-wide benefits that you miss out on.

Progression. You can both see and feel your progress. You unlock a bunch of new things throughout the playthrough and it feels like getting a snowball rolling down a hill.

That also makes them highly replayable, since you learn something new to expedite the process of the snowball rolling downhill. Every run offers a new chance to beat your personal best snowball up to that point. On top of that, the games give you several different romance options to encourage repeat playthroughs. With the games being low-intensity, it also makes them perfect for dual-screens setups where you have a documentary or YouTube video playing on your monitor.

I remember watching through all of Walking With Dinosaurs last year while doing my yearly playthrough of SDV.

That's not true in the slightest. Farming is for 3 things - money, gifts for NPCs, and food. Money obviously bankrolls your other skills by allowing you to buy better gear. Food also greatly helps your other skills since the food buffs are really good for fishing, fighting, and mining.

There's not much more that could be done to make farming intertwine with other skills.

For me, it's cooking, generally. I do stuff like get every museum item, but haven't even gotten the basic "10 recipes cooked" after 700 hours. Other players don't do mining at all because it's boring to them.

Not to say that Stardew itself looks especially nice, but you can at least see traces of a developer making something out of passion and not just for a quick buck.

It was very much trying to be another Paper Mario, but considering Nintendo has refused to make a new one since 2004, I think that's perfectly acceptable.

I've seen gameplay, and let's just say the quality of the visuals and of the gameplay match perfectly.

Disallowing "plagiarism" is to deny iteration on an existing idea and therefore denying its ascension to a higher state of being.
If someone can make "Stardew Valley but better" and wants to use your existing assets to do so, then they should be allowed to since clearly the creator isn't able or willing.

If your idea is so good, then you should have no fear of plagiarists.
The only reason you're upset is because someone might do better than you and make a more perfect version of what you started, and this hurts your pride.
The idea's perfect, idealized form should be what drives you. Your selfishness and desire to be the center of attention has held back great ideas for centuries.
