I love Miyuki and agree that she's one of the best romance VN heroines I've seen.

Totono and DDLC comparisons are weird.
On a superficial level it's very easy to shove the two together into the same "meta horror subversion of romance VNs" box.
Actually reading the two reveals that they're incredibly different otherwise, from the framing of the metafictional elements to the overall themes and tone of the stories.
Going deeper than that Totono actually becomes a very good measuring stick to illustrate why DDLC's use of metafiction feels so shallow and how poorly it was actually implemented into the story's (lack of) cohesive narrative/thematic through line.

The totono VN is an actual VN where the meta stuff is woven into a proper romance and character driven narrative, DDLC is only about Monika who is not an available route forcing one and the meta aspects themselves in a horror sense. The only comparable part really is the last scene with the credits where Monika sings a song she wrote, but even that's a stretch. They aren't the same character archetype at all and they don't go through the same struggles or storyline.
If all you want to do is say that it did the 4th wall breaks better or that DDLC is shit, that's fine though. I only really liked the music and the /v/ threads.

Okay, this is off the top of my head so it probably has some inconsistencies:
One of the two heroines, Aoi, is this weird amalgamation-of-all-VN-heroines-ever entity (I don't remember the details, sorry) and literally requires CGs and story relevance to live. In most cases, the game defaults to Miyuki's route and Aoi literally ceases to exist, disappearing from memory. If you tryhard enough after the first playthrough you can snap into Aoi's route, where after enough time she will wind up attempting to cheat on the protagonist because her content has been exhausted and she's going to disappear if she doesn't get CGs elsewhere. She doesn't actually go through with it, but the protagonist winds up convinced that she did do it by Miyuki (who maintains memory of past routes and is very mad that YOU are cheating on her). He confronts her about it, she dumps literally everything about her existence and what's going on onto the protagonist and it leads to him calling the guy she tried to fuck to his house and having her fuck him. Then it turns into a weird threesome and he ends up slurping the other guy's cum out of her pussy and it's (intentionally) the weirdest most retarded shit ever in an attempt to filter YOU and make YOU fuck off.
I speak of the protagonist as separate from the player because he is narratively different from the player, who the game refers to as YOU. The main point of the bat-shit insane NTR cum slurper plot he forces to happen is to piss YOU off and disgust YOU and drive YOU away. There's no glorification of the cuckening or anything, it's a literal tard filter within the plot. I don't know how else to explain it. It's also the boiling point that forces Miyuki to take action and leads to the second half of the game where she modifies everything to lobotomize the protagonist (who is YOUr only interface) and stay with YOU forever.

Or they didn't have enough time to give Aoi her own focus section.
