Is this game actually fun? Why is it used as the benchmark in every GPU comparison video? Or is it more like a tool like the original Crysis?

I had fun standing outside of buildings and mindfucking everyone inside to death. That was about it though. Never beat it, but I did play it on launch on a base model PS4. Boy was that an experience.

The gameplay is fun imo, and so is Keanus character. The story, the world building, the RPG elements(or the lack thereof), etc, are meh.

You will likely only glean any amount of enjoyment from it if you have not played it at all. It's neon Deus Ex (Adam Jensen generation, specifically).

Because it pushes the hardware hardest, it kicked off the ray tracing meme, and I'm pretty sure it eventually added the path tracing meme. Don't quote me on that last part, though.

its pretty decent. quickhacks add a pretty novel layer to the gameplay. the guns can be quite satisfying. theres lots of character progression stuff including customization that can actually have a major effect on gameplay. the most notable thing about it, i would say, is that there is a boat load of side content that feels actually hand-crafted.
