If any company made a legitimate inexpensive game console and funded games on it, maybe 150 bucks with 40 dollar games, just hire out indie devs who make ps1-style games and such, that would quickly become the best-selling game console of all time. People would be ravenous for it. But the execs see their current "success" and are trying to squeeze more from it in the here and now by raising prices and seeing how little effort they can expend. They have an apple tree, and instead of picking its fruit, they are uprooting it and shaking every single apple from each and every branch. The tree will not regrow.
