Post a game from your childhood that gave you feels no other game managed to replicateThere's lots of 3D platformers out there but only one Jak, not even its own sequels felt the same
>>729791793ND games have always had brilliant animations. From Crash all the way to tlou. I wish they'd make a cartoon game again with all modern animating techniques.
There's other platformers that feel like Jak 1. Scaler, Tak, and Vexx come to mind. They don't have the production values, which I guess is all you're really looking for.
>>729791793vice city
>>729791793It annoys me so much that they pivoted for the edgy GTA lite for the sequels. They did not age as well as the first game, even as a kid i did not like the shift in tone.
>>729791793This was the demo on the original Xbox I had as a kid, I replayed it over and over until it became some unreachable mythical thing in my mind that I would've given anything to see the rest of. I don't even know if it was good since I never did end up playing the rest and there probably have been a bunch of games since that have done it better, but I've never played them since I don't really play 3D platformers like it anymore.
>>729791793People don't realize how much influence this game had on Mario Sunshine. The way you can see different levels on the horizon was something Nintendo tried to desperately recreate in Sunshine.
>nobody posted fortnite/cod bo2for a moment I thought that I was on /vr/ and not on /v/
>>729792052The production values are part of it, and I like Scaler, Tak, Vexx, and Kya, but I feel like the main thing that gets me in Jak is the feeling that its setting feels like it exists independently of the game, like it's an adaptation of a long running cartoon or game, it doesn't feel like something made just to be a platformer but rather that they just happened to choose 3D platforming as the way you experience the premiseLike it could've easily been an RPG or an action game or a point and click game or an animated movie series etc, it feels rich, fleshed out, and interesting enough on its own to hold them all upIronically Tak does have a cartoon but it's one of those wacky mascot cartoons and not something really substantial
I don't know why, but for me it's Ty.
Hunter for Amiga. A 3D open world game with vehicles in 1991
>>729793019*long running cartoon or comic
That's how I feel about Ratchet and Clank. The first game just has some vibes that none of the others really match, especially not its remake.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E8PWFPgnZ70
>>729792639Seriously why are there so many old people on here? I always thought that most of the posters here would be between the ages of 18-21. I'm 19 and if I saw myself posting past the age of 21 I would kys myself so I can't imagine all these grown ass adults in their mid 20s and 30s using this website and feeling okay about it.
>>729793362You should get ahead of it and stop posting right now
>>729791793Years upon years and it is still my favourite game of all times.
>>729793362>he never got to experience the internet when it was still gotMe being old will never ever be worse than that, being young in current year would fucking suck so bad
>>729793483*goodMy cataracts and Alzheimer's kicking in already
>>7297933622003 website designed to attract 18+. Now 20+ years have passed. Ive been here since the start. Rest of the net sucks. Thats why you are here.
Norune, Home...
>>729791793>There's lots of 3D platformers out there but only one JakActually there is a certain game of which 'jak is a soulless ripoff.
No game like Alundra. It makes me sad.
>>729791872This but don’t let druckmann near it.
>>729793616They're nothing alike
Hearing the bit of Blue Skies as a kid and the ending speech before Monolith gave me a lot of hope. I should go play it again
>>729793718It's a lot like ALTTP but it's hard to go from Alundra back to Zelda
>>729793718I played and finished this game just last year. Amazing stuff. I owned it as a kid but I couldn't finish because the cd was scratched.
>>729793283same, although I enjoyed the newer games quite a lot as well
>>729796607Not him but I recently replayed Ratchet and Clank games and first one aged like milk gameplay wise unfortunately. I dont mind janky shit but god damn autoaim system in that game sucks balls so much and later parts of the game especially that forced "stealth" section where you get gadget to become gay ass robot is so tedious its insane plus mandatory hoverboard races and such. Movement also is pretty clunky in comparison to newer games Ratchet feels so floaty in first game. People always bring up strafing but its the autoaim that barely works you can stand next to enemy and it wont work at all. I dont know maybe they really wanted people to use first person aiming but good luck with that against non stationary enemies. Going Commando improved so much its insane.
>>729791793The game felt so mysterious as a kid. It's a shame that none of the sequels got close to making me feel like it did.
>>729798850Also that crossovers got ran into the ground
>>729791793>time travel story>stylish/anime visuals>drum and bass music>cool but goofy tone>pretty unique playing seriesIt was the perfect storm for making a big impression on kid me, and I'm still chasing after a similar soundtrack. The sequels are good, but they don't hit all the same notes.
>>729791793The world in general, the vibrancy, the magic particle effects and music all felt so fascinating to me. Dragon Quest 11 came close in some regards but it still hasn't been replicated.
