MK9 is when it all went to complete shit. Kitana is the only character the kept cute, but every single other design and new character is dogshit. Going from colorful and fun art direction, going all brown and gritty was equally horrible as the capeshit plot they added to the story. They tried too hard to still be shockingly gory, but that era had long passed. No one was really shocked and awed by x ray moves, they were just annoyed by it interupting the fight every 0 seconds
