Which Devil May Cry games are the good ones?
3, sort of 4, 5DmC is a different kind of game
3 is the good one
>>729801973All of them1,2,3,4,5, DmC
>>7298019733.
3 is decent and the only one that feels like a fully realized game.
>>729801973>>729802026>>729802043>>729802063>>729802089>>729802132which one is the one that goes>BLESS ME WITH THE LEAF OFF OF THE TREEthat's the only one i want to play
>>7298019731, 3, 5.4 is bad.2 is 2.
>>7298019731 is pretty good. I used to be super into it and it's the only one where I've S-ranked every mission on dmd, but playing it recently I wasn't as impressed by it, it's a bit rough. It's one of the first really great melee combat focused 3d action games so I think it's worth playing for that fact alone.2 is genuinely dogshit. It's not like a dark souls 2 situation where people say that but it's actually a pretty good game, it's just ass.3, 4, and 5 are all very good.
>>7298021914 has the most soul
>>7298021835
>>729802327what is very good about 3 4 and 5? its not the bosses, level design, or enemy variety surely?
>>729801973Unironically the DEreboot is the best.
>>7298025793 aesthetics, presentation, flow of the Game 4 soul , most fluid combat ever5 the most refined DMC gameplay
3 and 5 are masterpieces.1, 4 and the reboot aren't bad but have severe flaws so it depends on the person.2 is just bad.
Infested Chopper is iconic, play 2
>>7298036042 is iconic in general
>>729802183It's 3 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4AyfBnM016EThat said this specific song only plays at one point in the game, although it comes back multiple times as leitmotifsYou REALLY should play 3 anyway. It's great gameplay wise, story wise, and soudntrack wise too. It's just a great complete package. I love 5 as well, but 3 is the one that really builds this legend, as well as the best entry point for the series.
>>7298019731, 3, 4, 5
>>729801973Only the first one is truly good overall. The third one has very high highs, but is also very flawed. Everything else is not worth bothering with.
>>729801973Start with 3 and don't listen to Kamiyatrannies who live and die by 1
Modded DMC5 on PC is the best.Then DMC3 DMC5, DMC1DMC4DMC2, DmC
>>7298019731 is the SM64 of the series, it's barebones compared to what comes after but it's iconic.2 is a cash-in and horribly balanced shit3 is just a really good, solid game by all metrics4 has better combat mechanics than 3, but is obviously rushed and unfinished content-wise5 is halfway between 3 and 4, the game is far more complete and has absolutely exceptional combat mechanics, but the story and presentation just aren't quite as spectacular.Play 3 for sure, play 5 for sure, if you're curious play 1 as well. If after this you think to yourself>I could spend 500 hours practicing one combo in Bloody Palace and that would be a really good time for meThen play 4Play 2 for morbid curiosity only, invest no effort into it.
>>7298019731 3 5
Also do NOT start with 5.Yes, it is one of the most streamlined DMCs, but you'll be losing a lot of enjoyment by starting with it.
>>729805134I think if you're unsure whether or not you'd like the series, it's okay to start with 5, as long as you understand that you're missing context. You're a lot more likely to "get" DMC if you start with 5 since it's the game that does the best job of easing a new player into what the franchise is really about mechanically. If you're committed to investing yourself in the series, start with 1 or 3.
1 & 3: Special Edition. I never bothered with the others. They changed his face or something.
>>729805301I think 3 is the best middle ground to start. The issue with 5 is that you're already starting at the "logical" ending and streamlining of the gameplay, but that's not something you will appreciate at its best as a beginner. 3 does a good job introducing all of the mechanics to you slowly in a game that's less focusing on conventional battles/combos, and once you're done with it and have a good feel for the gameplay you can really enjoy 5's new QoL and more focused design.
>>7298019731 2 3 4 and 5 are a meme
>>729801973Play 2, then 4 and ignore the rest
The 2013 one. The rest are skippable
>>729805481>in a game that's less focusing on conventional battles/combosI think the risk with starting with 3 is that you can really fail to understand that the combos are the point for most fans of the series. You can wind up being one of those people who realizes how effective Stinger spam is or just cheese holy waters or whatever and roll credits on it and go>that was it? What was the point? If you start with 5 the game makes it really obvious how central the concept of combos/juggles is and it makes it extremely easy to dip your toe into those waters. 3, especially if you play the OG without the addition of style switching, really limits your available kit and makes you work hard to find interesting combo connections to build from. It doesn't feel as free-form, you have to WANT to juggle. Which is fine for series veterans who bought in on the presentation and decided "play like cutscene Dante" was a goal worth pursuing but it's definitely not something the game just hands you. If you start with 5, you have to basically actively TRY to be as boring as possible to walk away not understanding the "combo vibe".Actually, DmC too. DmC, for all its faults, is really quite good for this. You are simply not going to play DmC without understanding "this is a game about juggling enemies". It really sells that shit to you quite well. It does lots of other stuff wrong, but it hammers you in the face with the whole DMC value proposition.
>>729805825I agree, but that's why I think 3 works well: you're just learning the controls and basic combos, so you're not already at the point where you juggle shit. Instead it's a more straightforward kind of game with choices, risks vs reward and specific situations. Once you finish 3 you're a lot more used to the gameplay and inspired to do combos, so 5 really delivers on that. But, like you said, this is for players who wont just end up trying to cheese the game, they also have to want to commit to it.
>>729804663I will elaborate; the only real downside of DMC1 is the camera, which just horrendous. But everything else about it is good to great. Unlike the later entries, it was built around fighting efficiently and did it well, Dante didn’t have a lot of attacks or weapons, but every tool in his arsenal had it’s niche. It also featured very unique DT that enhanced your ranged weapons, allowed you fly around shooting lightning bolts, throw fireballs, unleash fire explosions and even assume Sparda form. All of was supported by great aesthetics and soundtrack, which the series never caught up on in the following entries. In comparison, DMC3, which is considered the best by many, couldn’t decide what it wanted to be. On one hand, it wanted you to style on enemies, at least somewhat; but on the other hand, the majority of the enemy cast were not built to support that style of play, and it became apparent very quickly. Moreover, if you try to fight stuff efficiently it becomes boring pretty quickly, because again, the game tries to give you a lot of space to toy around with your enemies, but I just can’t see how can you style on enemies like chess, enigmas, arachnes, blood-goyles, dullahans etc. DMC1 didn’t have a single bad boss, aside from gryphon 2, which was an extreme case of terrible camera, however, DMC3 has plenty of them: gigapede, leviathan, lady, Arkham are all ass, I would even add jester and geryon to the list, which would make half of the bosses in the game. DT got severely downgraded to being just a stat buff, with no unique attacks or properties, and DT explosion is just not a fun thing to use in comparison to what was present in DMC1. But the game has very high highs: you get way more weapons to play around with, even if they are not as polished, Vergil fights, Cerberus, 7 hells are fun to fight, styles etc. DMC3 is a mixed bag of highs and lows, while DMC1 is very good through and through.
>>729802651>no taunts>no styles>QTEs>5 melee weapons>walk and talk cutscenes>the most glazed boss (Bob) is just a long platforming puzzle leading to his actual fight, being a platforming puzzle but with ads to fight! It fucks up at standard action game mistakes

>people liking 5i swear to god, i feel like I'm losing my mind. Nero and V feel shit to play. The story is full modern capcom slop wank and everything other then the gameplay just got worse. 3, the anime (OG not nu) and 4 were fine and I wish they built upon that. 5 comes and it doesn't even really feel like it's from the same series.
>>7298019732
>>729807879Because DmC is mechanically better than 2, but aesthetically and tonally retarded, and you even did the gigareddit meme. You fit the bill, you are one of the DMC contrarians, I could concede one being better than the other on certain merits, but fags that "like" 2 or DmC other conventional games are usually baiting faggots. Most 'chad' posters are baiting faggots, or are just delusional closeted normalfags hiding behind cope.
