the only reason ppl defaulted to nvidia brand teaming is because their most expensive GPU's are always better than AMD's most expensive GPU's. But in reality, AMD was always the clearer choice up until dx12, but if you pay for dx12 games... you're kinda fucked regardless and I wish you would stop living.
>>
>>729804115

>>
>>729804115
>Are AMD GPUs really that bad?
let's put it this way, if Nvidia push the price of GPUs through the roof people will still buy Nvidia GPUs rather than go AMD
>>
>>729804115
They're wonderful for driver customization on desktop space. Attrocious for ai compatibility, and servicable at gaming
>>
>>729804115
No, and I've used both.
There are tradeoffs and benefits for both sides you have to factor in to your own GPU decisionmaking. AMD is readily cheaper, punches above their pricepoint in raster compared to their green counterpart pricepoints, and is steadily creeping to parity on gaytracing finally, but nJudea's DLSS looks better than FSR and their cards are better at local AIslop applications. Both of them try to claim to be the more stable one, but they tend to trade that aspect back and forth depending on drivers.

If you are interested in a gaymd card, try to get a 9070XT at MSRP while you still can. Prices are going to come up 10-20% at a minimum going into 2026, and they already have at a good amount of places. The 7000 series isn't bad either, but it can't run FSR 4/Redstone without some extra effort. If you're swapping off of a green card, make sure to use Display Driver Uninstaller(DDU) to make your life easier.
>>
They have been the better option for years if you only do gaming. Any kind of production work, or AI generation, you should get an nvidia card. AMD cards can do this work, but not nearly as fast.

The meme about MUH DRIVER SUPPORT has been outdated for over a decade and people just parrot it because they buy nvidia and just have brand loyalty.
>>
Buying an AMD GPU is like buying a 4:3 60hz monitor. It'll play games but won't be able to run all the new tech.
>>
>>729804115
Yes, you save about $50 in order for 30% less overall performance compared to the same-bracket RTX card, with little to no real support after release. You could try to run a new game that comes out a few months later only to have your PC lock up because your AMD GPU doesn't have any driver updates to actually work with.
>>
>>729804115
i had a few issues with the 5700xt nitro i owned but it turns out it was a conflict with windows 10 power settings - since then i've owned a 6750xt nitro and currently have a 7900xtx nitro and they both worked very well, no issues at all on win10 and eventually i went to win11 - i actually find win11 to be much more stable than 10 with the amd gear.- i'll probably ride my 7900xtx for a generation or two since the 9070xt didn't seem like a crazy upgrade since i don't use FSR in most games or ray tracing and only play 1440p

It's not 2022 anymore. You can generate your AI sloppa with AMD now.
>>
>>729808173
yeah but it's not a good as nvidia or grok
>>
I've used AMD GPUs for the longest time and had my share of problems. Since around 2010 or so.
Over the years drivers got better but there would always be this thing where you had to wait for months after release for those drivers to be stable. And there were things AMD did that I greatly disliked (like end W8.1 support really early).
I bought an nvidia GPU, the 4070 Super.
Never again. I thought the experience was better because for years, they've been the pricier but "worth it" option. That raytracing would be oh so amazing. Bro they have this DLSS thing that is perfect and Nvidia Reflex is the ultimate.
I ended up with something fairly unstable, I had to debloat my drivers and remove telemetry on them. Not only did I have to do it on Windows, now Nvidia was taking a shit and installing spyware on my system. The overlay was dogshit. I needed MSI afterburner for anything, and at some point even that bugged out on me.
Performance with raytracing still took a huge hit anyways, so I just forgot about it. Only game where I felt raytracing was worth a shit was Indiana Jones, mainly because it looks like dogshit without it, they clearly didn't bother with how the game looked without RT. I didn't even do much AI anything worth a shit. The only good thing about this: no coil whine.
I went back to AMD with the 9070xt and it just... fucking works. I missed a working overlay. I missed just changing two settings and there you go, it's undervolted and running the way it needs to be. I missed not having to go to fucking techpowerup to download a tool to download drivers without installing garbage. I missed knowing the fucking GPU metrics just with a press of a fucking button (including btw, the GPU hotspot temperature). Seeing where nvidia is gone, I never want to see nvidia hardware again if possible. I was considering selling my 4070 super for a measly 200 bucks to someone desperate but why would I, seeing the current situation
>>
>>729804115
As far as I know it only sucks ass if you want to gen AI video/images because that is exclusively done with NVIDIA cards. Apparently there's work arounds for AMD but you're making an already finnicky system even more finnicky.

Idk if this has changed
>>
>>729808920
desu I don't know why these companies are paying for AI when they can just use grok for free
>>
>>729809095
AMD works fine/okay but it will probably always lag behind just a bit when it comes to the most recent stuff - there's even super user friendly programs like AMUSE that AMD endorses which lets you gen stuff locally and takes all the work out of getting models installed since you just pick the one you want from a list and hit download - it has it's limits but AMD has come a long way - i'd say for casual users it's 100% fine
>>729806758
i play tons of new and old games and haven't had any issues in the last few years with any game simply opening and running - it's true they might not have some game specific drivers day 1 but i've yet to find any new releases that simply wouldn't work or didn't run properly because of that
>>
>>729804115
I can tell you the bracket is useless but otherwise I'm pretty content with mine.
That said if you care about DLSS and ray tracing or are a major AIfag, yeah probably not worth it. I am neither of those so happy times for me.

What goal post moving? Not even the 5090 does native 4k 60fps PT in Cyberpunk. Nvidia can't do it. Nobody can.
9070xt sits squarely in the same performance bracket as the 5070ti. The 5070ti is only slightly better at RT. It's not enough to push it over any reasonable breakpoints with regards to resolution, frame rate or graphics settings.

I will say though, AMD drivers are currently fucked with regards to PT in that game so by default, Nvidia wins since it won't crash and has Ray Reconstruction to clean up the blurry shit mess it makes on characters faces. We'll have to see how Redstone handles it once it's updated though.

The main bebefit of nvidia is built in encoding for workloads that need it.
Encoding with built in native encoders is 50x faster.
This doesn't apply to gaming.

The very top cards are also nvidia, but once you get into the bracket most gamers buy amd is usually the better price to performance ratio.

Performance + getting to do specific bullshit like dithering and then slapping TAA on top to be able to smear pixels together to hide it. DLSS and FSR aren't even supposed to "be" antialiasing tech, they only become that by effect.
>>
>>729822989
Nvidia drones toggle DLSS upscaling at 1080p with their poorfag 5050's and genuinenely think the games look better. I never have to toggle on upscaling or framegen at 1440p and I own a 5070ti. Only compelling use case for DLSS I've seen is that it overrides shitty anti-alliasing solutions, but that's DLAA, which is only nominally rolled under the umbrella of DLSS. Raytracing perf is better on team green, no doubt, but path tracing is today what RTX was with the 2000 series, a totaly unusable performance annihilating meme. If AMD can deliver the same raster and close to the same raytracing performance for cheaper, then it's a solid buy in my opinion
