If the "will" thing is that the Shadow Crystals are Determination then this is giving us basically the entire "twist" about the Knight:- Something happened to Dess and became an Amalgamate- She remains conscious but she is suffering- Carol discovers the Prophecy and a "cure" for Dess, probably sacrificing something or someone.- Carol joins forces with Kris, the one with the SOUL, probably because Kris was into Dess back in the day or something like that.- Kris starts getting friendly with Susie (Probably the "sacrifice" or maybe the real Hero that it is destined to stop this evil plan) and gets really conflicted.- The weird route is probably the Plan B, whatever it is.- Dess doesn't want to people to suffer, specially Noel and Kris, but her mind is lost in the void of the game, the Roaring Knight isn't really "her", it is just her body.

Main reason I think Dess Knight is real is because it's a direct parallel to Asriel Flowey in Undertale. Especially considering everything points to them being close friends - it's very poetic.Now the question is would Toby genuinely recycle the same main antagonist twist? I would say yes, BUT the key difference is that the Knight is not the end-all be-all of Deltarune, unlike Flowey. There's more going on, namely everything involving the player and Gaster (who, unlike in Undertale, is directly involved in the story). I wouldn't be surprised if Dess is revealed to be the Knight in chapter 5 and then the plot goes off the rails.

Nothing will unconvince me Chapters 3 and 4 botched the concept of the Weird Route.
