Yes, the 80s were a bad experiment. The changes made to the stock market and recognizing software as equivalent to literature when it comes to copyright were both completely untenable paradigms, even more untenable than "Intellectual Property" was to begin with.
The GPL is currently the only way to license software that is actually future proof and leads to good development.
>>
It is good but I'm not touching it before HDR is at least decent
>>
>>729853058
why is hdr such a monumental task that only tv manufacturers manage to do it

like good luck finding a free image editing software that outputs hdr in 2026

Eh, I'm still waiting until I see the frames. I am a simple man to please. I'll put up with a lot of nonsense to get better performance. Every time I've done an experiment with Linux it's resulted in lower fps.

HDR is being pushed by the HDMI forum to maintain their grip on an industry that is poised to eventually push them out, since it is such a bad connector standard compared to literally every other display standard.
>>
Do not say this around normalfags or they will start fuming endlessly about how they can't actually use computers. It triggers some kind of a bizarre inferiority complex in them.
>>
>>729853138
The woke racists at redhat delayed hdr support by 10 years
They've also delayed high refresh rate support by at least a decade too(probably more, well no compositor even attempted more than 60hz until 2019/2020 afaik, then the dogshit optimization made it stutter)
It's because of the thinkpad autists, there's been nobody with experience on linux's video internals that isn't a thinkpad 60hz 1366x768 tn 6bit frc autist

Meanwhile in Ubuntu 24.04: audio crackling because some retard thought good behavior when the audio buffer runs out of data is to PLAY RANDOM SOUND

Ubuntu is genuinly horrific. Use linux mint, or one of the atomic gaming based distros
>>
>>729853138
TLDR: it's all fucked up
Everything related to display technologies are a clusterfuck of 10000000 different standards and protocols. Hdr included. Linux is still very early in hdr support due to the miriad of implementations and the quirks they have. Some technologies are intellectual property owned by consortiums like the HDMI forum that want to charge money for them.

The fact the niggas in this thread all shill different things proves that wrong.

>>729853416
not surprising, Linux is purely a hobbyist OS. professionals who know what they're doing aren't programming an OS for free. Richard Stallman despite being a commie isn't doing it for free, either, he gets paid millions of dollars to do lectures and attend meetings and shit.
>>
>>729858080
That kind of reminds me of how Godot operates. The engine itself is free and you can do whatever the hell you want with it, but the creators own a company that offers to port Godot games to consoles for a fee or something? It's not the most amoral revenue model I've seen so whatever, though both RMS and the Godot creators are kind of assholes.
>>
>>729857945
Dead on arrival. It's killing itself by fragmenting with a billion optional extensions when in practice Chinese closed source chips will set the actual standards.

Bazzite or CachyOS?
Also does Linux still not have HDMI on nvidia drivers??
>>
>>729858336
cachy, bazzite is a training wheels distro
hdmi is an issue on amd due to the hdmi consortium being niggers that hate amd's drivers being open source

Wake me up when Linux can decide on a single version I don't have to mess with to make everything work. It will never have mass market adoption until it does.

arch or one of the easier derivatives with kde retard
stop crying about needing to choose, do you have choice paralysis every time you go to the store?

>This one or several others based on it
You obviously can't read. Because, again. One that just works, not a bunch of others that also might work that have their own quirks.

cachy imo, feels way less bloated and performance is also a bit better for me though not much. the "difficulty" of arch for this distro is so overstated. i use it exactly the same way as bazzite, just upgrade through the "cachyOS Hello" tool they bundle, i never touch the CLI. i also like to use octopi for installing software, its pretty simple

If you choose a bootloader like limine its also simple to have a similar snapshot setup to bazzite so you can restore easily if you somehow fuck up

I had started a playthrough of BG3 before deciding to switch to Linux, but as soon as I'm done, I'm making the jump. W11 is way too shit to abide.
>>
>>729859460
there's linux native version of BG3
>>
>>729859687
is it better than playing through proton though? linux native versions often aren't worth the hassle
