I like the sequels and remakes but I still actually agree with OP. Anything they changed as far as the story is just inferior to the original. The gameplay is mostly better, even though I've been one of the biggest "FF should be turn based" holdouts in the world (hadn't played a FF since FFX until FF7R). Though I still find some aspects of the original materia system better. Like why can't we just equip multiple summon materias still? Why can't we birth new materia? Why can't enemy skill materia just work off getting attacked by the skill?I'm just nitpicking the combat because I actually like the nu-ATB system and think it should be the future of mainline FF. Some of the batshit insane things they did with the story I'm already used to and those are well documented enough.
