>>729855573Art direction, hopeful protag (no cloud, no squall shall hinder us), brilliant music and best character growth in the series. The team of misfits just fit.>>729855678Be certain it's slow and clunky and overall bad. Among the worst in the series.

they took way too long unveiling what's actually going on, by the time disc 2 ended i just didn't care anymore. The slow as fuck combat didn't help either. 4 niggas in a row was a mistake for this game/hardware.
>>729855573They basically tried to imitate a Ghibli movie and it worked. Zidane and Steiner are inspired by Lupin and Zenigata. The aesthetics and tone are a blend of all early Ghibli movies and Amano's artwork. It's probably the most satisfying and finished narrative Guch has ever worked at, with a strong core theme of the fear of death that motivates all antagonists. By far the best OST in the entire franchise. And while the loss of customization compared to job entries is shitty, the game introduced one of the best skill systems in the entire genre, it was later aped by Astlibra and Expedition 33 and Nioh 3 is going to have it too.My only serious gripes with 9 is that the thievery chances are terrible and you never get to defeat Beatrix despite having a literal super saiyan in your party.
>>729857924I really loved it my first playthrough, it was probably the most fully realized FF world and side characters at the time. But yeah, on a 2nd playthrough it becomes painfully obvious how much of a problem the pacing is.If you play 9 much later after what it does is no longer a novelty, it's blatantly obvious your first playthrough.
>>729858036i first played it when it came out in 2000 and already felt the slog honestly. Tried to replay it a few times throughout the years but just couldn't give a shit. Maybe with turn based mod or something it'll be more bearable, but i really hate how the pc port looks, even with moguri. Can't win.
>>729855573I think it's the most beginner-friendly FF in the entire series. From plot to gameplay, they kept it nice and simple.
>>729858201I thought it looked pretty good with their recent stuff.Going toon+outline for the models with 60 fps, and changing combat to be "Dynamic" so every's actions take place as soon as it's inputted instead of waiting for actions to complete makes it look pretty good and increases battle speed greatly while still being fair.Problem is the story pacing is still really slow and you can't really change that with mods.

>>729858303>Problem is the story pacing is still really slow and you can't really change that with mods.yeah but speeding up combat might help. I took notes though, maybe I'll slap a CRT shader on top and try the settings you recommended.
>"why is FF so linear now! remember the old games!!">the old game in question

>>729855573Contrarians discovering you can no longer like 7 online.
Honestly Vivi's storyline is perfect. That, at least, was done without flaw.
>>729858604I played FFXVI and FFIX back-to-back and you can see how its current state is a natural evolution of what they established then. The Bahamut fight in the former is the Alexandria siege made playable.
It's been 20 fucking years since SquareEnix made fuck all. Let it go holy shit.
