Extreme abundance of donut-kruger tutorials that all try to waste your time.

God i fucking hate blendertubers so much. No you faggot, i dont need to learn the basics of this fucking software for a 1000th time when im looking at an advanced tutorial that turns out to be the same reguritated hackshit in the end.
And the moment its not and its actually some really cool advanced tech - its taught by some giga retarded pngtuber furfaggot (emphasis on faggot) that constantly focuses on himself or breaks it off into retarded bits that dont try to work as examples of the tech instead of focusing on the subject all the way through.
Fuck blender, fuck youtube algorithms, fuck blender youtubers and fuck timewasters. And blender guru can go fucking choke on a donut as well.

>>
>>729858103
extremely difficult. you would need to make a long term commitment to learning blender. at best you might be able to get a rough prototype of your idea after several months of work and study.
>>
>>729858103
Depends on if you're just going to use pre-made models or not. Making your own models and rig takes a long time, and you also need to at least know some animation skills.
>>
Might as well give up. This fucking software changes faster than any newfag can learn it. All tutorials are like 2-3 years behind the current techniques and largely obsolete. Either you were there ahead of the wave and can easily merge the new additions to your existing workflow, or you're fucked.

Misery. Like most 3D programs, it's all a maze of menus, memorizing a sequence of commands , and absolute fucking un-documented voodoo to get that magical render. You will spend endless hours studying the interface of each of these software, and by the time you feel remotely confident, your mojo is all but withered. Find some company in this misery, like an actual person, either willing to learn with you, or already competent. Doing this shit solo will make you want to work for McDonald's and be thankful for the opportunity.

reminder that you were born in this unique time window where digital 3d art came into existence and you were given the privilege of having easy access to it.
the medium did not even exist 50 years ago.
if you were born just a little sooner you might have died of old age right as some amazing feats like the first toy story came out. in that time period you'd have needed actual incredibly expensive supercomputers to do it. now anyone with a computer can just download some shit for free and do whatever the hell you want.
and those who have yet to be born are never going to know what it's like without AI either assisting it heavily or outright doing all the work.
don't waste it.

I learnt for making avatars on vrchat, it's mostly just knowing how to modify and combine existing models, sculpting, weight paint, add/remove geometry, combine models, kitbash, and you can see the things you made to silly dances when you are done if you dont have vr.

Wth are you talking about? If you got good topology you should have good normals. Just like in every other 3D software ever made.
>>
>>729856615
It's like driving a car. The process of making it go forward is the easy part. The difficulty in driving comes from paying attention for long periods of time, having spatial awareness, knowing what other people around you are doing, etc.

In the same vein, it's easy to operate blender. Especially 5.0. Most things you can do are now abstracted in right-click context menus that change depending on what you have selected. The difficulty of 3D modeling comes from translating intent from reference, having problem solving skills, understanding what you can and can't do, having the emotional energy to put up with something you're making, even if it looks ugly now, making minute to minute decisions, etc.

If you want to make models for games, it's fairly simple at the beginner level. All you have to do is understand what a vertice is, what a line is, and what a face is, understand what objects are, and realize that you have tools that interact and manipulate those three elements and objects. Every 3D software, apart from zBrush arguably, follows this basic principle of component manipulation. If you ever tried to learn Japanese, these are your hiraganas and katakanas, you aren't going anywhere without understanding them.

The donut tutorial is fine. You will arguably learn things you don't want to depending on your interests. Instead, find some simple prop from a game and try recreating it. Making a table and a chair is enough to take you through most of the game asset pipeline (concept, modeling, UVing, texturing, lighting). Just try jumping in with a personal project like that, and start googling things you don't know.
>how do I move the camera?
>how do I spawn a cube?
>what's the resize hotkey?
>how do I align those two things?
Eventually (sooner rather than later, it doesn't take very long) you will gain this driving automation, and you can start thinking about problems you have and ways to solve them.

t. been doing this shit for over ten years now.

This tutorial is complete garbage and a meme. You wont learn to 3D model shit, you know, the No.1 thing that you should be learning, instead he just modifies a Torus. Invest in a real tutorial like CG Boost Launch pad if you're serious about developing your skills.

If you're doing NPR, you need to know how to use normal data transfer.
Or just use one of the tools for editing normals.

The point of donut tutorials is dragging you through extra basic controls and shit I believe so you don't have to do multiple google searches per minute

Do you know any good tutorials to make VR Chat Avatars and Levels? I already know Blender.
>>
>>729860137
you missed the point.
the point of the donut is to just get people to figure out how to even use blender, not actually teach you how to model anything.
>>
>>729859332
It's unfortunately the sad state of non active boards especially after the purge
>>
>>729859332
They should just kill /3/ and merge it with some other board. It's an entire board carried by a single, extremely slow anyway thread. And cris, he's doing his best too.

not really, all the tutorials are shit, but if you just watch enough of them you will absorb some parts from each of them

https://www.youtube.com/@PxINKY

that and downloading shitloads of assets and stuff from vrmodels.store and reverse engineering them

You mean Non photorealistic render? Because Ive been making Anime characters and didnt have a problem with Normals. Are you avoiding poles and making good edge flow? Do you have a Discord so you can show me?
>>
>>729860493
go find a model of a character, find a model of some funny clothes and learn to sculpt and weight paint the clothes, that gets you like 50% of the way there

I know. That's why I said it's... fine. It'll teach you some basic things, essentials even. It's just hard to recommend it past that. I believe the donut was so uninteresting that blenderguru moved on to teaching you how to make an anvil instead, which is at least more interesting than a torus with strawberry glazing on top.
>>
>>729857002
they're both specialty forms of modelling if that's what you're asking. game assets focus more on good topology, baking detail to improve performance, etc
product photography renders you're more focused on photorealism and shit like condensation (marketing bitches love condensation)
>>
>>729860493
Just animate models in virt-a-mate and sell them.

>having the emotional energy to put up with something you're making, even if it looks ugly now
NTA but this is my number one weakness when it comes to stuff like this. I couldn't even make it through the donut tutorial because mine looked worse than the example.
>>
>>729857002
Blender can’t CAD, there’s no real world size grapher to confirmed item size. Plugins lack data to support percussion numbers.
>>
Is learning how to use blender and making your own cool little things a good hobby? I already have a job, and other hobbies, just trying to play less games and use the computer for something else..

This shit will kill you inside. Very few people are immune to it, being able to look at something someone else made and not let the comparison steal away the joy of the craft.

My most prescient advice is to be very careful with artstation, twitter, social media in general, especially if you are a budding artist and follow other artists that are doing the same thing you are. I myself used to follow a fellow I admired (and still do) on sketchfab, and I'm ashamed to admit that it really bothered me he could create what I was making, but better in every way. The resentment and shame actually made me quit a couple of times.

I fooled myself into thinking it was all for the sake of gathering reference material to use in my own models. This was utter bullshit, I did not learn one thing from looking at this guy's models with envy. I eventually unfollowed said artist and every other artist in my area as well, and surprise surprise, the joy of making things came back to me.

I'm not saying "don't use reference material", just be mindful of why you're there looking at someone else's work in the first place. Find what you're looking for and get the fuck out.
>>
>>729863692
theirs looked like shit too so stop being gay and make a sick ass donut or whatever
>>
thread reminded me to donate my yearly $100 to them.
>>
>>729864656
>Reference material
You use material of your superiors as study materials silly, unless they make some really cool landscapes or something
>>
>>729863692
here's the worse part: when your 3d skills improve your eye for art also improves and when you look at your now improved work you still see flaws and still get that same feeling
it never goes away
