It's easy and mashy and fun. Solid fundamentals, responsive and with a lot of animation cancels that make you feel fast as fuck. Not a chore the way that I remember basically every other Ubisoft game being. Though at no point ever do you feel like an assassin in any way.

With your ship you can travel long distances very quickly but when you actually step off it the map feels big. Content is not spaced out evenly at all and basically everything worth finding is just on main roads/rivers but there is a lot of it. I thought they depicted the natural environment well enough to the point where I'd find myself taking my time through parts with no gameplay because they looked pretty and go off to climb mountains with nothing on them just because I could. As a virtual tourism simulator it was kinda great.

Because combat is so easy the rpg bullshit is totally irrelevant. I just went where I wanted and ignored level suggestions. Sometimes content is hard gated by story progression, which is ultra gay.

For the most part it's a medieval picaresque broken into largely unrelated episodes. The individual episodes are very hit and miss and clearly suffer from too many writers rotation through the project and I got jumpscared by a part where I had the option to tell my right hand man that he had done a good job only to be served a gay sex scene without warning. The first half is generally better than the second half but it's like decent enough when it's just being about viking odd-jobsmen doing temp work in Saxon England, and instantly becomes retarded whenever it forces the SciFi DaVinci code shit on you or when it decides that Norse mythology was real.

Overall it was a 60 dollar vacation in England but without the terrible food. 7/10, it didn't give me buyers remorse

I think the worst for me was an early, relatively well done chapter that revolved around this crazy berserker dude that you learn is actually not a crazy psychopath and you two become friends and work together, then like 40 hours of gameplay later a different story chapter goes "haha actually he was a psychopath lol" and he betrays you for the lulz and starts doing edgelord shit some balding mid-40s French manchild thought would be cool. Dropped Odyssey a few years back because I played to many assassins creed games back to back. Not entirely true. While odyssey does have actual side quests, Valhalla has way more of them, but also they are way shorter. They're these blue dots spotted around the map. I'm not sure what to think of it, they can be pretty nice, some of them are kinda whatever, but it's not like there's no side quests. You also meet Odin in that game, and in Origins you answer the Sphinxes riddles etc.The weapon I have equipped in Valhalla creates a damaging hailstorm on light attack finisher, and a fire explosion lighting up enemies in an AoE on heavy attack finisher, you know? So it seems to me a bit silly to go over actual historical demopgraphic charts to determine the level of realism in skin color distribution, in a game where you can have drone vision from your raven to spot enemies, and ride a ghost wolf as a horse, ya know? The armor I am wearing is actively on fire. so I'm not exactly freaking about over seeing a black.

Batman arkham knight played it on release on ps4.
Hated the batmobile sections and had to force myself to finish it.
Years later, during CCP flu lockdowns some anons on /v/ where posting the game is completly diffrent from what it was at launch.

Interesting. Personally in both Odyssey and in Valhalla I prefer the fem characters. I don't know what it is, but in most games I find the female voice acting better. Fem V in Cyberpunk comes to mind. But also: these playerbases for these honestly pretty mid games is HUGE, so 31% of players is nothing to scoff at, either. That's almost a third of the player base. For me it's Fallout 1 and VtM:B, everytime I play them I am put-off by how dated they are, but every new trial I get further into the story and find that I actually like those games. Just wish someone would refresh them a bit to fit modern QoL and general standards. The same but less so about Heros of Might and Magic 3, Deus-Ex (the original), Half-Life (the original), and The Eldar Scrolls: Morrowind. Can't play 'em, they so old. They also are jam-packed with mechanics and buttons to remember, a mark of ambition, for sure, but it's TOO MUCH.
If there was a remake, remaster, or some kind of super-patch I'd be all over them.
New age gaming spoiled me for some good games. I'd never be able to play an Elder Scrolls game that's not fully voice-acted, it's just something I got used to and now can't go back on.
Still love HoMaM 4 to the bone, though.

Hu? This is not a secret. Because a large amount of black people lives among us, and normies see them as people like you and me. So including some black people in the media they create isn't "leftist propaganda" (to them) like it is for you. To them it's just "normal". They're used to seeing black and brown people, they are aware that historically, there have been very few black and brown people in video games, so they put some in, so that black and brown people can feel "seen". But it's not like "an agenda" to them. They do it the same way you would put in NPCs with brown hair, and blonde hair and red hair.

Valhalla is a lot more soulful than Odyssey. Odyssey's representation of the world was paper thin, felt like actors in a set making references to antiquity by being as stereotypical as possible. Valhalla portrays its intended culture in a much more interesting, nuanced way.

I'm playing right now and I just noticed something that fucking annoys me.
There's Ore deposits and animals around, and I spend a good amount of early game time going for these (As in: I wasn't farming them actively, but if I was going somewhere and they were nearby I would go for them), and now my items need like 300 ore and hundreds of leather. But these desposits and animals drop like, 1-3 each. I'm gonna go find a fucking one hundred ore deposits to upgrade one item ONCE.
Clearly the only viable way to get this shit is from chest rewards which actually gives them to you in amounts of 15+ at a time, or vendors.
Which makes me wonder: What the fuck is the point of the overworld map resource spawns??

they were in Odyssey so they got copied to Valhalla, that's about it.
It's always better to just open the respawning wealth chests and sell trinkets to buy them.

It's not about AC anymore, they wanted a pirate game? They made "AC the pirate game". They wanted Ancient Egypt? Origins. They wanted Ancient Greece? Odyssey. They wanted vikings? they made Valhalla, Japan? Shadows. AC is just the excuse they give. Just a paint-by-color image of an AC game overshadowed by shit mechanics, arbitrary leveling, and sideslop (lots and lots of sideslop).

My friend and I used to be hardcore AC fans and followed all the hype and trailers and stuff. I fell out of love after AC:R and he kept on playing Black Flag and Origins. He did like the sea shanties in BF and the MC of Origins. But in his house everybody plays the same 1 game on PlayStation (4? Idk) for 6+ months until they can afford to buy a new one, so he had nothing else to play. The time they had Child of Light on was refreshing, even his dad played. But then- Shadow of Mordor, which is the same old shit in a LOTR package! Fighting 1 guy took >40min once! (Only the nemesis system was cool) I avoid that RPG-"LIKE" shit like the plague. I play on PC and pirate shit, so my horizons are wider. He got a good laptop, so I can only hope his taste improved with his specs.

I'll mention a good action-adventure game to counter all of this negativity: Red Dead Redemption 2 was an honest good action-adventure game. The engine and controls were a bit off at places, but it was stunning to look at in 1st person view, with many artfully crafted bioms to explore, had good gameplay, immersive setting (the camp, wow), good characters, nice story, and even good side-games you could spand hours playing while getting drunk.

RDR2, a game new-AC could only dream to match in effort.

Only AC idk about really is Shadows, but no reason for it to change. Surprise me, please!

The Last of Us Part 2. Fucking hated it at launch on PS4, the pacing is still bad and they raped Ellie's character. But I kind of respect Neil for trying to do the story that way and make us care about Abby after killing Joel, it didn't work for me, but that's a bold thing to do. The gameplay really is fucking awesome, I love the combat. Having names for each NPC really does add a lot too.

You don't even have to play as him 95% of the time. There are a couple of story missions where you have to play as both and some side missions that are just for Yasuke. But if you want it to be Naoe's game, you can play it that way. And you should, Yaskue just feels like easy mode if you get filtered in a combat encounter. Also play in Japanese, the English voice acting is fucking terrible.

Nah I know like RPGs have done it forever, but I thought it was really cool to have in a third person shooter. NPCs freaking out over discovering their friend being dead, by name, really just adds to the immersion. Very cool and simple thing that I wish more games did.
